Some minor nitpicks: - didn't do all side B (most notably, his high 3rd slash doesn't meteor) - his neutral B has 3 voices in Smash 4: no, mid, full charge - in Melee, everyone had 2 ledge getup attacks (pre and post 100%) - maybe I missed it, but I didn't see ftilt and running attack - somewhat misleading, but voices for his attacks are randomized, so it'd be more appropriate to match the voices.
Soultrigger I don't think get up/ledge attacks are needed, most of them do the same damage and knockback and the animation isn't even that interesting :/
Soultrigger The last victory animation could also use the same quote in Melee that he did in Smash 4, which is "boku wa makenai". Roy had 4 victory quotes in Melee: - Mamoru dekimono no tame ni... makerarenai! - Shin no tatakai wa, kore kare da! - Kurushii tatakai da ta... - Boku wa makenai! Not sure about Smash 4, but I assume he also has those 4 quotes there. Also, he only did 2 front rolls, never a back roll. When you do a front roll, you switch directions. He also missed the getup and getup attacks from when Roy is at 100% and above. And getup rolls / techs / wall jump techs. And 100% ledge roll/getup/attack. I feel there was more too that I'm forgetting right now. It could perhaps have shown how in Melee, when Roy uses a bat for a FSmash, Roy hits first with his sword, then the bat. It was an overall very good video, though, so I'm not complaining. Amazing editing and recording.
***** There's actually a huge amount of difference between the two, most notably Dr. Mario's recovery (barely better than Little Mac's) and Dr. Mario's increase in killing moves and lack of gimping potential.
I think they made him hold his sword in a weird way because in his respective game, he holds and attacks with his sword in a very weird and awkward way. Glad they made the change to make him more unique in comparison to Marth
Ewan Heneghan Roy holds his sword back-handed in SSB4, while in SSBM, he held his Sword of Seals with a front-handed grip. That's why it looks a little weird compared to all the other sword-wielders.
jeez seeing how far smash has come as a series is amazing, despite being a semi clone roy seems to have so much more to decern him from marth in this game than his voice and colors. All his moves like so much more powerful, and it looks like when he strikes like he puts all his force into his swings its sooo cool.
+Kevin Mccallister Butthurt detected. He's the user of the factual best weapon in the series, and is the factual best character stat-wise once capped. Leagues beyond the likes of Eliwood and Ike, and slightly better than even the legendary Hector. If you are seeking a terrible Lord or main character (in comparison, that is), then just glance over Alm or Marth. lol
RedHairdo Lmao that's why 90 % of the peoples who played Fe6 agree to say that Roy is indeed ONE of the worst lord in the series, not the worst but close, the main reason is that his growth rate is just average and his stats spread are not that great,to sum him up he's mercenary trying to be a myrmidon and that's not working, but the main reason of why peoples don't like him is because of his awfuly late promotion,i mean c'mon,Chapter 23 ? Really ? He is useful for 3 level or 1 if you didn't get the Legendary weapons. Around mid-game he is more of a burden than anything, while most of the units promotes,he is stucked with mediocre stats and in Hard mode it's a true nightmare.Lords from Fe7 didn't have these problems becasue their stats where spread in the right way (except for Eliwood lol) Same for Fe8. It's either you never played Fe6 in Hard Mode or you are overestimating Roy.
Btw, a little tip for future Comparison videos for fire emblem fighters, could you have them facing left instead of right? Except Ike and Corrin, all the other fire emblem fighters Face left and I wanted to see the difference in some of their counter poses and animations but the cape is in the way and I can't really see it.
Am I the only one who likes everything about Melee Roy more than Sm4sh Roy? His voice (I know, same voice actor), how he looks.. Roy's our boy not our man. =(
I personally think it would be nice to see comparisons like this on all Melee veterans. I have to say I like the "Melee, then Smash 4" comparison more than Side by Side, but both of them work.
butthurt melee loser. smash just gets better over time ( excluding random tripping in brawl ) so to you, no. brawl wasn't better than smash 4, melee wasn't better than brawl etc
Please, Melee Marth was a lot more overpowered than SSB4 Roy, especially with that ridiculous grab range. If anything, Roy doesn't need a nerf, SSB4 Marth needs a buff.
startmirca Melee Marth wasn't better than SSB4 Roy at all. In fact, it doesn't even compare, because the two games had completely different engines, and the engine helped Melee Marth a lot. Quite possibly SSB4 Roy would be even better in Melee's engine. By the way, the grab wasn't that "OP", because it extends Marth's own hurtbox, as well, which is something Top Players still punish today, making it almost impossible to win as a Marth main any Melee major today (along many other reasons, of course).
Master0fHyrule I do enjoy the comparison vids but Id like to make a suggestion. Can you go into "Camera Mode" rather than training mode? For moves such as the upsmash you dont get to see the entire animation due to the way the follow camera works. The camera mode would allow for better angles and would remove the UI from the Melee section. Thanks for reading this. Give it a try maybe?
***** That's not necessarily the reason. All we know is that he re-recorded them. Kinda like how a voice actor constantly reprises his/her role in Japan in sequels of any game/anime/dramaCD/radioDrama/etc. series, which is completely unrelated to matching updated designs or anything of the kind.
The fact that Roy's Binding Blade (also called the Sword of Seals) is shorter and is about the same length as Marth's Falchion (also called the Sword of Light) isn't that big of a deal considering the Roys in Melee had to fight in close-combat style while the Marths had to space the opponent. But then again, the decrease in Roy's sword length DOES encourage players to get even more closer to the opponent for the "tipper".
SSB4 Roy > Melee Marth Just imagine SSB4 Roy being played in Melee, being able to cancel everything and abuse of his crazy-high running speed for dash dancing, JC Grabbing etc.. Beautiful.
+RedHairdo He still has to deal with a shorter range of his attacks and grab though. Plus, His side-B cannot be used for recovery. He's still better than Melee Roy either way though.
Poor Yoshi. He was bullied by Roy in Melee. He didn't show up for brawl and Yoshi was happy. Then he was a late arrival in smash 4 and the cycle continues.
My favorite Roy is the melee one and here's why, I like his appearance and his voice and that's it. Alright I saw a video where someone buff his version of melee and I love it so much, I can't say the same with his moveset
Also worth noting that rots up special has super armor frames at the beginning, and his neural standard is a one hit repeated, as apposed to his two hit from melee (similar to marth and Lucina)
she has the same moveset as marth thats true but a real clone would be if she played completly the same. her blade makes consistent damage so you can rush down on your enemy as her with marth you need to have a certain distance to be more effective and he can kill much earlier thanks to his tipper. Those small difference they have make their playstyle different enough not to be true clones. True clones would be the koopalings and the alts of other characters : P
Shirley Vaga Yeah but now with Roy being an incredible rushdown character with some similar moves to Marth and more damage when he is closer, what's the point of Lucina? Well, I guess she will always be waifu...
Is it me or does Roy feel different in Smash 4 than in Melee? He might since his animations are different but I can't confirm this. My copy of Melee is scratched so my console has trouble reading it and I can't check. XD Roy feels different than Marth, though. I wish Lucina functioned like this (Similar to Marth but would feel this different. ) I am actually thinking about keeping Roy as a pocket character.
LMaruchan roy i thinks if faster and a fastfaller. i don't know if he's a fastfastfaller in melee and is fair has ASAP moving frames in 4. along with some move changes
dialgaveal30 Yup. His sword got shorter and since he attacks in a reverse grip, he doesn't have the same range anymore. But where he had Marth's moveset in Melee which served to keep enemies at a distance, his new moveset encourages you to get in close, where he is the most deadly.
***** I prefer melee roy as well. He was a more fundamental based character who had one of the best d-tilts in the game. While this roy is better, his animations and everything aren't as smooth. His dair, jab, fair, and uptilt make him seem like a madman who has never held a sword before. His range is noticeably worse too. His melee screams are waaaaaayyyyyy better than smash 4 screams. PM roy is still the best by far.
Yep, all of those reasona make me prefer melee Roy, but the biggest thing that bothers is his neutral-b , it looked so mjch cooler in melee with the explotion and the hitbox was quite bigger when fully charged, his effects really felt much better wich is a real shame
Now here's the real question. Was Roy originally a clone of Marth, or was Marth a clone of Roy? Think about it, They both had to be unlocked in melee and They share the same moves. Marth could be a Roy with more Combo Potential and Roy could be a Marth with more...Fire Potential? I don't know.
When nintendo realises that having lucas as a character you don't have to unlock was better than ness, a character you have to unlock to play as and then makes you pay over £2 to get the character you didn't have to unlock in Brawl (Lucas) and have the character you did have to unlock completely free in ssb4 (ness). Nintendo messed that up for sure.
