Probably seen in the background of some of my videos from time to time, if anyone might be curious about these engines, here is their story, one being a rather sad tale to date.
Ten years ago left my Enfield engine bottom half for an experienced (old) mechanic for crankshaft work. Few weeks passed, then a colleague told me the mechanic was hospitalized after a stroke. Had to fetch the engine back and search another mechanic (who was about to retire himself, another story...), he did recover later. Soon there will be nobody to understand these machines.
Stories like these make me grateful for every day I am alive and able to keep it together. Thank you for Paul for sharing your knowledge and keeping us entertained this year 2023. I pray for all the best for you in 2024.
G'day Paul, l ran a plumbing services for many years, and money does strange things too people, I'm still owed Thousands from pricks that couldn't pay for the work done or never intended to pay, wait till 5 years pass and sell the motors, it's New years day here and l began the year with a 100 mile ride, happy new year mate and thanks for everything, cheers mate, Neil 🤠.
It would be nice to think that, one day, all of these engines will be back to doing what they were originally built for. Those two on the shelf look really fine.
I must say Paul that regardless of location or country a workshop out of necessity must meet criteria even if no criteria is set. Your workshop is such a familiar sight & makes me feel right at home! For whatever reason the workshop seems to be a home for orphans at some point! Great job!👍
Yes two relevant experiences there, the first,a bit upsetting maybe!......the second becomes a problem, which I have suffered too ,out here.. Part paid for engine work and then nothing...puts you in limbo... All the best for new year.....
It’d be easy doing what you do, if it wasn’t for ( some of) the people you have to deal with. Personally I’d have lost patience with these two and sent them official reminders, it’s been twelve months, if I haven’t had it collected inside the next six, I’ll be starting storage/ insurance charges at X rates to the value of the engine at value Y. Obviously you don’t want a fire or a break in but if these things happened it’s a massive headache on top of the massive headache! Hope they both collect in 2024 and give you a happy start to your NewYear
thank you Paul for your hard work putting us a show on for 2023 a happy new year to u an yours all the best for 2024 an hope mores to come av a good un cheers
There will always be people who fail to pay up, no matter what occupation you are in, building, mechanical, drawing, there will be a percentage of people who do not think things through and fail to understand the cost of having work done.
I have been waiting 4 years for a harley shovelhead engine I gave to a guy and I gave him a thousand pounds to buy most of the parts needed when I gave him the engine. I had my hip done in June this year and put him under a bit of pressure to have the engine finished for me so I would have something to do during my recovery but I think I have made things worse for my self as he has stopped answering the phone to me. Wish I had someone as reliable as you near me. Anyway that's the way life is things never run smoothly 😌
Would the owner of the early 'Asbo' respond if you offered to sell the engine on his behalf. If I heard right he has no bike to put it in. The second one is all too familiar. I carried out motorcycle work to put food on the table for my family. 'Nuff said.
Hope your "little," hint wakes up these two people to get their fingers out and pay, and collect their engines. BTW, whats the engine next to first one that's awaiting collection?
That would be the RE Bullet engine - to work on at least - but the Triumph Tiger Cubs and Triumph / BSA Triples are among my favourites when actually riding a machine, also the Honda CB500T from the mid seventies - a much overlooked and under rated machine.
Parallel twin TR6 and TR7 for me as I have most experience and the special tools. Only blot on the landscape for those are those blasted pushrod tubes and their pesky seals. Grrrrrr!😢
