A second ride on a Royal Enfield Classic 350. I think my muttering says it all. A sensory and philosophical approach to choosing and riding a motorcycle. Photos and memories to allyearmotorcyclist@gmail.com
You absolutely nailed it with that analogy, these bikes do take you out of life’s rat race , and the vibrations from the thump is working in tune with the body
Marvellous review, and splendiferous philosophical mutter around the countryside! Your videos are becoming a highlight of my mornings, but "Get off to work, you're late" yesterday snapped me right back to reality! 😆That Splendiferous Brown colour looks great! At first I wasn't sure, but during the walk around it reminds me of the colours of an old British Steam engine, wonder how it would look with some lovely brass parts! Is Paddington a contender for the paddock? 🤔 It's like bringing home a stray dog, you can't let the kids name him or you're going to have to keep him! 😂Haven't been to Cambridge since I was a child, but all these videos in the lovely sunny countryside have me craving doing a bit of Bullet wandering over there!
I think you have summed up the whole ethos behind the Classic 350, in this one video. You don't buy a classic to get somewhere, you buy a classic to go somewhere, and that is the big difference. Well done mate, great video.
Brilliant splendiferous review When I’m working away for a week I well look forward to coming back snd watching your reviews and mutters on the big screen 📺 Excellent job and look forward to more 👍👍🥂
Last friday I went to the nearest RE-Dealer here in Germany and sat on a 350 Classic in the same colour. I was too late for a testride but this will be my next motorbike.
@@TAYM That`s true. But I life next to the border to the Netherlands and there you can go on the Autoweg=Autobahn only with 100km/h or on countryroads with 80 km/h . At this speeds the 350cc engine will feel well I think.
I do think that Paddington is a cracking name, just perfect. Meditation in motion, a real Zen moment is what Paddington seems to have given you. Like Bertie but different. Simply crackalicious. Thank you for sharing, looking forward to your next video.
The marvelous sixth sense is the most significant and beyond . No need to tag along with the " big and impotent " . Paddington poddles along to his own little important places . Brown like the 1950s 700 Meteors ! Splendiferous 🤩
It’s the first bike that has made me lost for words, difficult when you are renowned for muttering 😂😂😂 really struggled to keep going, I just wanted to absorb it all in
Absolutely splendiferous philosophy sir! That's exactly how I feel about riding my Mars Bar 😁 Mine went from marvellous to splendiferous after adjusting the gear lever...yes it does have a clock and love those switches...and Mickey Mouse mirrors 😊
@@TAYM What a brilliant idea! There must be a market for that, and much better than attaching a desk to a Classic 350...how would you keep your paperwork from blowing away!? Ah, if only you could just ditch the desk completely and ride around all day in complete contentment ☺️
This is the most 'classic' looking variant of the classic 350. Really this chrome and brown shade gives you the 1950s vibes. There are blacked out and modern looking variants of it as well but they don't look quite as charming as this one. I always wanted a classic motorcycle but hated the loud sounds and my god the kind of maintenance those things require. This bike was like a dream come true for me. It sounds so smooth and is so easy to ride.
Great vids, love the banter, I had a 1990 350 bullet, immaculate brill bike but still had a yern for more speed, but it struggled over 45mph, so sold it and bought a Thruxton but now learnt more sense, and miss its slow thumping nature.I joined your channel to watch you ponder between the T120 & T100 ( as I have a T100) but you have turned more to Bertie similar to uncle Stu, making me think I need a splendiferous brown. I'll send you a photo maybe for your muttering rides with photos.
The T100 is a marvellous bike, I love mine for all sorts of reasons but Bertie and the Royal Enfields are very special 😊 I look forward to seeing your photos 😊 thank you 😊
Very nice looking bike. There is only 1 royal enfield dealer near me here in the US, and I've only seen the flat colors here. When I bought my triumph there, they wouldn't allow test rides during Covid. I still bought it. 😀
Thanks for the great video.....i have just fitted the Lowrider seat to my Halcyon Black Reborn...also IKON shocks ....feels great.... the lowrider seat is just a little bit lower but enough to make a difference when I'm reversing it out of the shed... more contact with the ground.. easier to push backwards with my feet.....also . feels just a little bit sitting in the bike rather than on the bike but definitely not cruiser style.... the seat has made the bike for me...I am 173cm high and weigh a ton👍😋
Just need to buy one now 😂😂😂. RE do sell an aftermarket exhaust which is similar looking to stock only a little shorter and a little bit throatier, not loud! My bike arrives at the dealership 1200km away tomorrow then I fly and ride back with pre arranged servicing on the way home. An immediate touring holiday for my partner and I respecting the running in procedure of course.
Splendiferous indeed 🙂 I wouldn’t change my 500 for one, but they have done a fantastic job emulating it. And if I didn’t have the 500 I would seriously consider one. But red/chrome or brown (bronze)/chrome 🤔 Very enjoyable. Marvellous even 👍🏼
Lovely bike and yes it all happens below 50mph. Some 350 videos suggest the engine gets a bit rattly with more miles. I guess they vary but my 500 motor is still quiet although the clutch is quite noisy and rough. I like using the kickstart because it starts easily with NGK plug, and appreciate the hydraulic auto-valve-adjustment.
Hopefully will have one of these on the drive within the next couple of weeks, also in brown, after a lifetime of riding much faster bikes I'm really looking forward to it.
Marvellous. The running in is like an initiation test and once you have passed you will become a philosopher. Time to think, relax and enjoy your riding in a new way 😊
Marvellous, something I didn’t realise previously is the importance of the dealer you buy from. The prep of the bike is so important and this is where Haywards excel. They really do care about every bike and every customer. When I compare the one I rode at Haywards to the splediferous green I tried elsewhere, they are streets apart.
Philosophy and bikes have always gone together! Whenever I lose track, I get on my Bullet B5 and poodle around Niagara; come back with a clear eye and it's cheaper than Therapy. Buy Paddington and you will both be happy.
The little digital display has a clock built in. I love the sound but I agree, it should be a bit louder. I have bar end mirrors so that eliminates your closeness issue. I also adjusted the rear brake pedal down about to the limit. I also added the heel and toe shifter like the domestic Indian bikes get. Mine isn’t splendiferous brown. It’s the dull signals bike but people all smile at it😁
at 13:20 if you go left at the roundabout into Cambridge, the right turn at the bottom of the hill goes through Coton and on to Grantchester which has some nice slow twisty roads, a favourite of riding instructors. does mean coming back along Trumpington Road which is busy during school run time, then Fen Causeway and the Backs to get onto Madingley Road up the first right past Lucy Cavendish and St Edmunds takes you back onto Huntingdon Road towards Haywards
I had a new enfield 350 bullet in 1992 . the gearbox was lovely once you got used to a right hand gear lever . The quality of the bike was quite poor glad to see they have improved . Cheers mate
Thanks for a great video, if you are back in Madingley again a worthwhile visit is the War cemetery if you are allowed to film it would splendiferous to the n’th degree any offering by Uncle Stu, not that it’s a competition but it is very thought provoking and picturesque.
Another gem of a review. You clearly love the Classic 350. I realise you and Bertie have a lot of shared history, but aside from that, if you had just ridden a Bertie for the first time (or second), which one would you be bringing home? You said early on in this review, 'If you can't handle a Bertie' - not quite sure what you meant by that. Lovely to relax and listen to your enthusiasm - I feel set up for the day now!
Next video (in a couple of hours) answers most of your points, I think. Handling a Bertie. What I mean is, I think (that’s all I can do without ownership) the 500 is a lot more vibrant, less smooth, agricultural and needs a bit more mechanical care. For some people, letting to engine run a while before heading off is a pain (for example). Some don’t like the vibration. That sort of thing is what I mean.
I have a GT650 Continental, 13 months & 3000 miles later - it's the most fabulous bike I've ever owned, Had over 150 bikes in the past 41 years Traded my CB1000R neo sports café + model for it after a 50 mile test ride, just couldn't believe the connection & feel. Now has Zard silencers & free flow air filter, quite a difference, biggest difference came after replacing tyres with Bridgestone BT46's - amazing ! Got a 350 classic in Bronze as a loan bike while GT got serviced 2 weeks ago, didn't want to take it back, had it for a weekend so just kept riding it, did over 100 miles, incredible relaxing bike to ride, and the comfort - wow ! So - I think I may have to have one alongside the GT Great review, love your style & mutterings
If I get the classic think am going to get the chrome red. But the Supernova Meteor is a tempter. (After seeing the Meteor and sitting on it I think I prefer it to the classic 350 and lookswise. Even the screen I like. The extra seat ((heightwise)) on the Meteor means you have to flex the leg more). Small thing of test in Sept then hope weather is ok for some testing.
Zen like is a good description of riding my green splendiferous Classic 350, a joy on every ride. Plus last fill up after 137 miles only managed to squeeze in 6.15 litres of fuel, equating to 101 mpg, I have to convert from litres to gallons as my old brain only equates in mpg. Miles per litre means nothing 😉
A lovely bike. Hopefully the cat is inside the pipe, so a silencer change would improve sound, weight and performance. Another winner from Royal Anvil..... 😍
Great review!! At 64 I'm trying to raise my "street cred." by using your grading ... words ... but I cant figure where my favourite ... "fandabbydozie" fits in the hierarchy?? lol.
MAD AS A BOX OF FROGS But all the better for it ! Well done TAYM. You've got me saying splendiferous all of the time too now. I wonder if I can get therapy for that ? Cheers, now you've ridden both of my bikes within a fairly short period of time. Like you say, these bikes just slow you down and make you forget the stress of daily life. Medicine for the soul ! Stay safe TAYM ! ER.
Marvelous mutter TAYM, first it was Scamp the Scrambler, now it's Paddington the classic! Both splendiforous, you're going to need a bigger garage......
Watching this again to feel relaxed even when Im not riding Paddo ....you are certainly in the zone of peace...springtime in Sydney so a couple of videos coming up soon
still think this is one of your best reviews .... cooking up some fried eggs and contemplating going back to one of these....finding the Interceptor a bit to hectic
@@TAYM Thanks TAYM I like that " The Buddhists of the motocycle world" ...Ive actually been studying Tibetan Buddhism for some time and you're spot on !!!....and yes fatherhood makes you re evaluate life, happy to go abit slower and see the world around me ....hope alls good with you
I can see that if you had one, your mood would lighten and possibly improve your overall generosity to your other half. You may also see through fresh, clearer eyes their beauty and just how right they are about everything you previously thought they were wrong about. Tasks requested of you by them would be done with glee and promptness. So many this could come from such ownership. I am sure if you explained all this they might agree to such a purchase. (Also getting you out the house and from under her feet might do it)😂😂😂😂
As a woman, I can confirm this is all true. In my case, a bottle of Cremant de Limoux and a box of handmade chocolates bought with the money you've saved, would also help. 😊
No you cant give a bike back once you have named him and brought him to life, you cant give a bike a personality and just abandon him, we all love Paddington now 😍,you cant leave Paddington there he might get an abusive owner 😢
Funny you should say that. I too was concerned and spoke to Jack at Haywards about ensuring no one abuses him on the test rides. I even suggested that he let me have him for a while, at least until he’s run in, say 10 or 20000 miles or so 😂😂😂😂😂
@@TAYM oh that’s great news once you named him Paddington I was welling up 🥲😂what a brilliant name for a brown/bronze classic 350, a Paddington is for life not just a test ride 😂🤣
This American just (with my son and friend) bought three of them! They are amazing fun, and there's nothing that can be said that can change our minds. We've had so much fun on them, and everywhere we go, we get stopped and asked about them. Most folks - including some fellow motorcyclists - think they're vintage! I've been riding over 50 years, and this is the most fun I've had since I was a kid!
