Today, the new Royal Enfield Classic 350 motorbike, in Chrome Bronze arrives, and wow, what a stunning motorcycle!
The question is...Why?
Is this going to be our new bike? Is the Ol' Man selling his beloved BMW R 18 cruiser motorcycle?
Before we review the Royal Enfield Classic 350, we want to go over a few points and details, and discuss customisation options, such as new exhaust, air filter and fuel pack, plus handlebars and other possible mods.
Coming soon is going to be a mega Classic 350 review in stunning locations!
We also discuss importing a vehicle to Spain from the UK and the TAX implications, import duty and ITV test, albeit briefly.

I've had a Royal Enfield 500 classic for 8 years now, done 25,500 miles on her.....and I honestly wouldn't have any other bike. The sheer joy of riding the B roads, the sound of the thump thump thump from the Hitchcocks exhaust, sheer bliss. She has a heart and soul, of that I'm certain. Go for the RE 350 mate! 😊

I have a 2012 classic chrome. If I were to get another bike I think the super meteor would be the one. Stewart fillingham recent thoughts has me convinced. Although it doesn't have the classic look the mechanical , technical and comfort advances are super compelling. Now the price will probably put me off. A motorcycle shouldn't get into car price range. Yes I know other big bikes can get up in price but not worth it in my book. The 2023 interceptor price is pushing the upper limits of cost for me. You might as well get a small car.

I actually bought the 350 after watching your review. I'm 50 year's old now and I like yourself have owned almost every bike under the sun . 1000 FZ1S , Triumph 1200 Thruxton R, ZZR1400 are the last 3 bike's I owned. I feel I woke up one morning and wondered why I had a 200hp motorbike when most of the time I pop to a pub , shop or work. Since owning my 350 classic I've used it much more than ever before because it's so easy to get out and manoeuvre etc. I have two canvas paniers which fit loads of stuff in. Cheap to run with the smoothest of engine's and gearbox that I've ever owned. It reminds me of when I was a kid on my smaller capacity bike's which I went everywhere on. Also being the owner of several fast and expensive bike's over the years never have I had so many compliments as with the 350. Even from none bikers! Literally every time I stop some old boy will show me photos of his bike's from his youth. I've had people taking photos like it's something very special 'whitch I believe it is' a lot of Indian people come over and ask how I got it! They can't believe you can buy them over here. One Indian guy showed me pictures of all his mate's back home on there's then asked for a picture of mine with me sat on it to send to his friends back home. I don't keep car's or bike's for any more than 4 to 6 months but I will never get rid of this amazing little bike, it's actually the perfect bike! Every little ride is an adventure in total comfort. Mine is Halcyon Green, sometimes looks black but in the sun it's something very special. Hopefully you will carry on filming once in Spain living the dream. The best of luck🍻

I can honestly say that your review was one of the biggest reasons I got the classic 350.... And i love it. It slowly took the place of my Honda monkey and even "made me" sell my NC750S 😊. Now i can go slow and people have time to see what I'm riding 😂. Great video as always. Cheers from Norway 🍻

Pick mine up this week SV Red and Chrome. Likewise I'm down sizing, from a Kawasaki 900 A twenty minute test ride sold me on this bike. First motor cycle I've will have owned for 40 years with a real honest heart that you can see is not just another generic road burner in black and plastic covered in electronic gadgetry Back to pure biking, hooray

Had a R18. Sold it bought a HD Fatbob and realised what I’d lost. Then went searching for another R18 FE and they only had a R18 bagger which I purchased and traded in the disappointing HD. I’m now looking out for a R18 still, a R18 FE Deluxe which is the one I had initially. You will miss this bike, the only one I regret selling , having owned 12 different bikes the past 3 years. At one stage having 4 bikes at once. Yeah I’ve settled down at having one bike at a time now the past two years but really looking forward to getting my boxer back again soon.

If I was offered either one of these motorcycles for no cost, I would choose the RE CLASSIC 350 without a second thought, it's just that beautiful. Plus, it has a great sound, from the many videos I have seen from That Bloke, Stuart, The Coast rider, and others. The bike just speaks to me in a language that I understand. It makes no pretensions to be other than what it is. It takes me back to happier times...

Lead balloon? I really enjoyed that wales trip! I would have thought people would be interested in any bike - I’ve never really liked the appearance of the R18, but watched the vid out of interest. Have always had bigger bikes for the past 40 odd years, but completely agree with other comments here about the Royal Enfields. I’ve come home from big bikes to the Interceptor which always makes me smile. I Rocket 3 over the Pyrenees is not a lot of fun. Be very interested to see what you go for for Spain! Thanks for your hard work!

Go for the RE 350. It's just perfect on small winding roads - I bought mine on the spot last year and no regrets since. And don't get me wrong - I owned a 1200 Laverda and a couple of other heavy bikes in my life. The RE is not regressing. It's simply a very intelligent choice.Ride safe and keep going.

The RE classic 350 is a fantastic yet simple bike, sounds good, well balanced, comfortable and looks great, I've bought one as my first bike after passing my test at 48! I love it, it's the chrome red one and everyone I see wants to talk about it, I've removed the pillion seat and it looks fantastic, I'm probably going to get the touring seat as it looks very retro, good luck with the house move 🙃

I have both the T100 and the Classic 350. Similar styling but two completely different bikes. The T100 just takes off when you twist that throttle, the 350 not so much. The 350 is more nimble and more comfortable, I'm keeping them both.

I moved to Spain last year. Like you I decided best option was to sell bmw 750 gs and buy bike in Spain. Visited Goracing bike shop malaga and fell in love with meteor 350. Preferred it to classic but we all have our own tastes. Meteor is ideal for spanish roads, climbs mountain roads in third gear, very surprising when you consider that the mountains go over 2000 metres. Bike is not good on fast spanish motorways so I avoid them. 350 is great but would recommend testing 650 supermeteor before deciding. Good luck Trev

Ol’ man, don’t sell the R18! You said in a previous video that you would keep it. Going from a 1800cc motor to a 350cc motor is not a wise choice even if the roads in Spain are more winding and may seem more maneuverable for a smaller bike. I began watching your videos because I am a R18 First Edition owner myself. I bought it because I wanted to be “Wunderlich” (odd) and it is an absolute work of art (as you’ve said) and I get to ride this work of art as a bonus. You’ve given the R18 such high regards and it is shocking to see that you are even considering selling it because of taxes?

I live in mid Wales just outside Devil's Bridge & the Royal Enfield classic 350 is perfect for the lanes. I'm weĺl over an hour & half from the nearest dual carriageway! The good life's better in beautiful surroundings at a slower pace enjoying the scenery than living somewhere where you have to keep up with rat racers on motorways, trunk roads & anything under 750cc is dismissed out of hand. Find your pkace to chill & enjoy life in Spain.

Mr Darcy, I have owned countless motorbikes over the last 54 years and in my later years I discovered Royal Enfields. I can say with all honesty that no other brand of bike has put a smile on my face like the Enfields. I know that everyone has different tastes and I respect that, but just take a good look at the style of the bike. There is no bike out there that maintains the classic look. It's in a catagory all its own. For that reason it is a no brainer (for me) what bike to choose for Spain especially because of the winding roads you will encounter. Thank God for Enfields.

I have a 2022 Classic 350 and have done all of the mods you’ve mentioned. I agree the bike is beautiful and a head turner but it’s underpowered, especially in hilly country and for an average sized man. I live in NE Ohio USA and our roads are similar to yours. I just picked up a 2022 T120 and love it. The extra power and nimble handling is nice to have, especially if you want to climb larger hills and ride at interstate speeds (55-70mph). I’ve also had some corrosion issues with the 350s rear wheel’s chrome. My local RE dealer told me that allot of folks are bringing them back to trade in on the INT 650. Just wish they had put a 500 on it - would be the perfect bike! Love the channel!

Love the R18, like most when l saw the exhausts l thought wtf? But now l'm used to them they are gorgeous, like nothing else. I love the 350 too, taking off the pillion makes it a lot better looking. Somebody else mentioned the signal, yep, those and the "dark" look way better to me than the shiny ones, more utilitarian, if l owned one l'd throw on some Carradice canvas cycle panniers. Those 2 companies are made for each other, they should get together.

I would recommend Moto Guzzi V7 850. I have Stone but probably V7 Special will tick your box even more. I am a rider with over 30 years experience and I have gone through tons of bikes. My Guzzi is the best bike I ever had. Has lots of character and that transverse V2 is just a thing of beauty especially with Mistral conical pipes: sounds great, looks great and gives enough power to enjoy riding everywhere. Saying that I am thinking to get Royal Enfield 350 Classic as a second bike for those lazy Sunday afternoons. Only problem is my missus - she thinks that 2 bikes for one rider is too much... Anyway I hope you will choose a bike which gives you most unforgettable joy. Good luck!
@mikefule330
@mikefule330 Год назад
I'm on my second V7. It's an in line twin, not a transverse. The crank shaft is in line with the bike and one cylinder is slightly ahead of the other. If you had an "across the frame 4" ("across the frame" = "transverse") the crankshaft would be at right angles to the line of the bike. If you had a K series BMW it would be "in line" with the crank shaft in line with the bike. This idea of the Guzzi v-twin layout being "transverse" is persistent, but incorrect. Great bikes.

I love the Classic 350 looks BUT the elephant in the room is the small motor and your weight /size. You can’t escape that. I tried the Himalayan and thought it was great but too underpowered for our UK roads, tried the Interceptor and that was much better. Difficult choice ahead. I’d keep the R18 and enjoy it for yourself and if you really have to buy a 2nd bike in Spain for RU-vid when you get there.

I have this very same bike (down to the color). I can’t compare to as many bikes as you can, but I absolutely love the bike. I replaced a 2017 HD Road King with it and would never go back. I removed the pillion seat as well and installed a luggage rack. The best modifications, in my opinion have been to remove the catalytic converter while retaining the stock pipe (Hitchcocks sells a superb decat pipe that replaces the catalytic pipe). I also opened up the air box and added the FuelX Light (ECU thingy). It runs so smooth now and even sounds nicer with a very pleasant exhaust note, but not too loud. Your review of the Classic last year was my biggest inspiration in buying mine. THANK YOU!

I think you should buy the super meteor or a interceptor. If you get a classic 350 and plan to take to Spain watch out for the speedo fault which the needle plays up when it gets warm. The needle does not go back to zero and sometimes sits at a high speed when standing still.

The Royal with out a doubt. I have owned several 883 Irons and and a few adv touring bikes and spent vast amounts on money however I downsized a few months ago and sold a lot of my stuff. I own a Suzuki Jimmy 4x4 small thing and the green 350 and I have had more fun than in the last 15 years. The main reason is people can afford them I go on ride with the local shop and in the last few months the group has doubled. And it’s not just guys it’s girls and normal people getting into the hobby. That’s a big deal because I think Harley has really missed the opportunity here.

Living in Devon I bought a Classic 350 and it’s ideal for the lanes and backroads. With the obvious mods it will hold a true 60-65 mph which is Ok for main roads - but not motorways. It’s ideal and my VFR is now left in the shed unless I’ve got real distance to do. Enjoy!

I bought the Meteor 350 and have the same view. Don't want to go on motorways and don't want to hare about. As the Classic and the Meteor are based on the same J series platform, they are pretty much the same to ride. The footpegs are further forward on the Meteor, but the seat seems lower. As you are clearly much taller than me, the Classic would probably suit you really well. On my Meteor, I've replaced the air filter and inlet cover with the DNA parts and removed the exhaust cat and collector box and replaced it with the Hitchcocks straight through pipe. It sounds so much better, not sure it has added any power/torque though! Might be, that the changes have weakened the mixture at higher rev's... Might try the FuelX system to resolve this. Owning a RE is a change in mindset. It's not about getting somewhere, it's about going somewhere and enjoying the whole experience.

A few thoughts about the classics 350: 1: the rear fender supports have always been there. 2: you could move your feet, even more forward by using the sub frame from a meteor. 3: concerning the exhaust, you don’t need back pressure, but you do need velocity, and this is where most aftermarket systems fail. A larger pipe allows the exhaust to slow down so each pulse runs into the one before it even more. The stock head pipe is double wall with a smaller pipe on the inside, which is perfect. I would at least try deleting the muffler and leaving the catalytic converter in place.

Hi, I am a beginner rider with 46 years of age, got my license last year. The classic 350 is my first bike, got 6000km on it now. It was a love affair from first sight, i bought her before i even got my license, so obviously without test riding her. As a beginner you ask yourself of course how would other bikes ride. So i want to test drive pretty regularly other bikes. So far the Triumph T120, Bmw rninet pure, bmw f750gs, new honda transalp, vespa 300 gts. Some of them i liked (t120), others i disliked from the first minute (ninet pure), but everytime i could not wait to get back on my 350, it is so comfortable and relaxing to drive. If in the mood you can even "attack"😂 some corners with it, it is just so much fun. To me motorcycle wise less is more. Would love to see extensive videos from you on the classic 350.

Of note though the W is only a Cafe cosmetically, bars, saddle and fairing otherwise as the Street and Standard, fun though.

I have owned three BMW’s over the years, but I’ve noticed more online enthusiasm for the “Brit bikes” than for the beemers. I think if you’re intending to continue your excellent series of motorcycle videos you’ll have a larger - and usually younger - audience with the small Brit bike than the huge and expensive Beemer.

It’s not easy creating content and I really enjoy and admire what you do. With regards to the bikes you choose. Make sure it’s something you love and not just a chanel pleaser because it’s your guys genuine love and passion that shines through . I tune in for you guys if it’s a 125cc commuter or the R18 . Enjoy what you do and I for one will keep following.

I have the Halcyon grey RE350, bought new, now 3,000km on it, love it - I suggest you also consider the Triumph Scrambler 900 - I bought a 2023 Scrambler 900cc chrome edition & am impressed by the amazing clutch/transmission, motor, fit & finish (wide handlebars too)- perhaps a better all-round choice for twisty/hilly roads for you in Spain. I am an inch shorter than you & fit nicely. Better yet, buy both!! All the best in your bike hunt & move. Cheers from Canada, Ronny (PS, I think folks would like the RE350 videos over the BMW, as it is more attainable $$ for many).

RE 350, W800, Triumph T100 or 120 or RE 650, T100 all the way, if I could only have 1 of those bike, Definitely T100. 350 is too small, not that HP is everything but HP is fun, W800 awesome bike its on my hit list if I can find a good deal on a used one, Royal Enfield 650 , I have one and I love it and for tight curvy roads, that's my bike of choice over the my Bonneville, the Royal has a shorter rake so it handles better than my Bonneville but my Bonneville with Just me on it handles great and the Bonneville has a slightly longer rake, so the bike is longer and feels like a bigger bike, I have heard and maybe you can confirm this I know you have reviewed both 900's and 1200 Bonneville, but I have heard that the 900 handle a bit better than the 1200's. that's why I would pic for me the T100 I love that bike, my Bonneville, is a SE, I wish it was a T100. Looking forward to more vids and looking forward to see what you decide. You'll probably get a Harley sportster lol Have a good one.

Old man, trust me please, and go with either the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 or Classic 350 have way more positives for your plans and potential for your channel than the Kawasaki W800 imo. I'd hazard a guess and reckon young Mr Darcy would probably totally agree. Sure, the optional Triumphs are also worth considering, but at considerably more cost. Your R18, all be it top quality, is an acquired taste as bikes go, and built for a limited market. Suited you well for Whales, but yes, not so much for Spain. 😉👍🏽 Quietly confident I would not be alone in saying... "We subscribers to your channel, are looking forward to more of your great works of collaboration and uniquely styled Motorcycle related reviews and content in future."

Brother and I have just come back from a 800+ mile trip to France and Belgium and back on a Hunter 350 and Classic 350. They are absolutely perfect for exploring and you can if need be take them on motorways. The Hunter is slightly quicker and able to maintain 70mph more often than the classic but 60mph is achievable all day. If nothing else it keeps you alert and gives you more to think about as you have to anticipate every hill and overtake.

Unusually, I don't agree with you on this occasion about self-censoring your videos. As far as I am concerned all two wheel vehicles are worthy of attention and your political asides are your personality. Don't pamper to those who are offended by your mildly expressed views. I mean I don't agree with the premise of your statements in this video but I am in no way offended and I can guess with reasonable certainty that you aren't offended either by my disagreeing. Just be yourself Ol' Man, it's why I follow you and Darcy and look forward to all your vids.

Wish you well on your move to Spain. Really enjoy your friendly and informative videos. BTW I've noticed a few people commenting on line that you have to keep a bike absolutely standard for it to pass a Spanish MOT. Seems where ever you go these days there's a rub of some kind.but I'm sure you will be able to work through it all just fine.

I’ve got a Kawasaki w800 street and can verify that pegs look a little further back from comparing a pic of me sideways to you on the Enfield. I’m 5,11 so you being taller might accentuate the different position. Happy to send a pic to compare and show riding position if it’ll help.

SuperMeteor might be a better choice in that it'll have a little more poke for getting up the hills. Cheap bike in Spain too. The model I'd want is €10.5k here in Ireland and the same bike is less than €8k in Spain 😢

I would recommend (buying new) to buy one in Spain, full support, no import nightmares and likely cheaper. I speak from experience of moving from UK to Cyprus. You should find most manufactures have local dealers all around. We have mostly all and we are a small island, no BSA as of yet.

I’ve never been to Spain but I kinda like the music. You can’t go wrong with the Classic, though I did buy an Interceptor based at least partially on your saying it was one of the best bikes you’d ever rode. No regrets, but I’ll likely buy a Classic next year as well.

Hold on, I need to stop you right there, at 7:41. At this point of the video, you have already explained your thoughts about modifications. I have an RE Classic 350 (beautiful Halcyon Green) in my garage here in Bergen, Norway. And I must say that I have ridden some amazing 5000 KM since I've bought it in August last year, and yes, after watching your very positive review video. I did read up a fair bit more, however. I've had the thoughts of tuning. Not that it really needed it, Although it would make the bike even better. This week I received a box of parts, which I haven't gotten time to install. Techbikeparts. fuel chip, hi-flow air filter, and suspension. I will let you know how it is 😃 And btw, thanks for the excellent review last year. I love my bike!

I think I am one of the viewers of the first hour. To be honest, you've only really gained a lot of followers since the first review of the r18. It's a bike that certainly polarises, but most of the comments were very positive and there are actually not many motorbike enthusiasts who really think the r18 is bad. Of course, tastes are different. HD is not everyone's cup of tea either and neither is RE. I think you and the bmw fit together quite well. Nevertheless, I'm looking forward to everything that might come along.

The 355 classic is such a beautifully looking bike I am also considering getting one of those as well. great content keep it up!

Instead of Bonneville consider a Scrambler. It does everything Bonnie does but is also a bit better with poor dirt roads thanks to the semi-knobby tires that go with the bike.

Hello Ol' Man, Thanks to you and Darcy for the great videos. You asked the question of which we would prefer to see and I think more RE's and Triumph's. There is nothing wrong with the BMW's but as they are so expensive they are only open to the selective few. I think the majority would watch more of your video's if they were on the cheaper costing motorcycles. BTW, best wishes with your move to Spain.

As an ex Reddich built 350 and 500 Bullet owner back in the 70's and having nothing but love for them and affectionate memories of my time riding the Royal Enfield marque, the reliability, economy and yes, reasonable speed too once I had the bike properly sorted with uprated rear suspension units, 3.50F/4.00R Avon SM tyres, front brake improvements and a bit of engine tuning was enough for my 350 Bullet to keep up with my friends bigger and 'better' bikes which I loved to do as it often embarrassed the hell out of them when the my Bullet beat them over a distance when riding to various rallies all over the country, like this I'm really appreciative for the way you conduct these RE reviews Ol' Man with the modern iteration of these bikes where you sympathetically big up the plus points and don't start going on about nonsense like 'there is a lack of 'top end power' or some such foolishness. These bikes are great because they are not that fast and the people who want to own them do not want the modern 'Alien Insect' look and 11.000 rpm etc and the corresponding high cost of running the bike in terms of fuel consumption and tyre wear and so on, a Bullet allows a smooth and steady progress on the road which is just as fast in the real world as all these modern sporty bikes spend most of their time riding anyway (if the rider want's to keep his licence) so the slower steadier aspect of riding a Bullet is all good in my opinion 😎

Its your bike of course, but after 50 years on bikes and many BMW’s, they have just lost me. Its a sad thing, really. But.. I would definitely say the classic 350 or Interceptor are pretty compelling. If I may, you might consider a V7 Moto Guzzi. One with chrome, not all blacked out. I have new-era guzzi and its very tractor-like in a just great way. Often over looked, but something of a classic itself. Anyway, its hard to see how you can go wrong with style RE. Heck, get the interceptor as well. Together they’re half the price of your BMW and might cover more kinds of riding.

@Simulera
@Simulera Год назад
@@richardjones3112 it’s a wonderful bike. Threaded valve adjusters and a shaft make it nice on long rides because nothing needs anyone’s help. It’s very tough. In most ways it feels a lot like an R75/5 with better fueling, brakes, suspension and tires. They’re nice. The sporty ones I don’t know. But V7 classics and the ADV are great. The 1400 Californias are really very good but sort of huge. The switch gear is idiosyncratic and there are few dealers. But parts are readily gotten, any mechanic can work on them, and the Guzzi owners group is very cool. I have nothing bad to say. Wish there were more dealers. They go for a very long time. I’m speaking of the “new gen” bikes after piaggio bought them and helped get them out of certain troubles.
