Soft Military Style Panniers for the Royal Enfield Classic 350 from Hitchcocks Motorcycles Panniers accessories.hitchcocksmotorcy... Pannier frames accessories.hitchcocksmotorcy...
Installed one on my "Juggernaut", man I absolutely LOVE this bike, the way it looks the way she makes you feel. Funy thing is to see how many people stop doin' what they are doin' to behold the Royal as I approach XD, some will find excuses just to stop me and going... "hey by the way... what a bike...have a nice day ". Man, this bike teaches you the "slow-paced" approach at motorcicling and I love it, pure free-minded relaxation as I roam the land at the low rattle of my trench- machine gun beast. I don't care about speed ( neved had ) I don't indulge in petty recing or stuff like that, I just love riding this babe like I would have 60 or 70 years ago If I had to go back in time. UNMATCHED.
Good video. Getting the top shock nut back on is much easier with the pillion seat off. It's secured under the rider seat by a long bolt, which you need to remove. Slacken off the two top shock nuts and the pillion seat then slides backwards and off. Worth getting a couple of coats of polish on the rear mudguard whilst the pillion seat's off as well.
Cheers Dave that makes complete sense…..instructions don’t mention the retaining nut and this gives the impression that the bolt is threaded into the frame….right hand side of mine was stressed too so the nut flew off at an alarming speed 😂
Excellent video: clear and comprehensive instructions. These pannier racks have just come back into stock at Hitchcocks so I've ordered a set along with some black (only colour they have left at the moment) pannier bags. Looking forward to having the increased luggage capability and finally getting free of always wearing a backpack wherever I go. Cheers!
Hi, in addition to my previous comment I just wanted to say thanks for seeing what's involved, also to confirm to anyone who has concerns. I did both mine in under an hour and it was very straightforward. Just follow the video and the instructions and it all came together nicely. Just one point. I personally found the most tricky part was getting the special (slim nut, that's supplied in the fixing kits) on the bottom mount, near the rear footrest on, as the space behind the frame is very tight. Hence why they supply a slim nut and short allen bolt I guess. This aside it's and easy job, just take your time. Thanks once again. Mick
Nice job. I think instead of a ratchet - wrench it might go easier to use a socket, extension and driver. Less activity that might scratch the paint if it slips. Just my 2 cents. 😊
Excellent instructional video, fitted my frames today easily enough though hadn’t seen a video such as yours, I used a telescopic magnet to position the awkward shock mount inside nut while the bolt engaged, it worked very well. Struggling to get the olive panniers as out of stock at Hitchcocks as they are apparently re designing them and some months before they are available, so will source from India.
Great video. Point to note is that it becomes impossible to adjust the shock preload with pannier frames. Additionally I made some inserts from wood to give the soft panniers some permanent shape.
Excellent job there. I have the same panniers from Hitchcock’s but the instructions I received were nothing like the ones you had. Mine were basic to the point of useless. 👍
I'll go further - it's impossible to set the preload period! I could not get the crappy RE wrench to grasp the teeth on the shock so I was only able to get it up one notch. That alone makes me want to replace the shocks with something I can adjust. It's literally the only gripe I have with this bike!!! Ride Safe 🙏🏼
I'm considering getting some of these, so thanks for posting the video. They look really nicely made and good quality, but the 'double D' method for closing the flaps looks like a right pain in the arse. You're ages fiddling around there just to fasten it. Just think if there were simple catches instead. Click click, and the flap is open - pop pop and it's closed. No farting around with cold, wet or tired fingers trying to feed the strap through the D rings. There are more 'double D's holding the pannier onto the frame, so every time you park somewhere insecure for any time you're going to have to faff to get them off. Just for other people considering a purchase... Other panniers I'm considering are the Trip Machine ones, and also the horribly named 'Cotswold Hipster'. They look just as vintage, are leather or waxed canvas, and attach/detach far easier.
They are meant to have a period look hence the D rings…..important for authenticity in my view….and it’s only a few seconds more effort I have no problem with that 👍🏻
Great video thanks, nice clear video and thorough instructions. Expensive items but you pay for quality and I have seen reviews on the Indian ones and you might as well tie on a couple of supermarket plastic bags to the bike.
I have watched the video several times and I think they are the same Saddlebag Frames (1990670) for the Classic 350 and 500 UCE. It only increases the lower Antero attachment of support...... Regards
Great video. Any chance of some feedback, photo or a video on the comfort level (leg comfort in particular) of a passenger once the panniers are fitted?
Thanks for this video. I am just about to order a pannier kit for my Classic 350 (same colour as yours). As I have already removed the pillion seat and its subframe it may be easier for me to fit that top nut and bolt.
hello from MEXICO, excellent video... I like the Mounting Frames or Frames for Saddlebags a lot since the ironwork on the bases with cords makes it look elegant... but I have a question, your motorcycle is a NEW CLASSIC 350 REBORN. I had the idea that these Mounting Frames or Frames for Saddlebags were for older models.... but please help me with my question since your answer depends a lot on my purchase, knowing the model or type of motorcycle and knowing if those Mounting Frames or Frames for Saddlebags are good for the NEW Classic 350 Reborn ... thanks and regards
Hi great to hear from Mexico…..yes my bike is a new Classic 350 Reborn (2022 model). The frames are designed for the new bike and are made my Royal Enfield as are the panniers. It’s a great bike 👍🏻
I have these bags on my 500, they are extremely sturdy and capacious. I especially like that the frame supports the bottom of the bag in case you are carrying something heavy. The only downside is how fussy they are to open and close. The straps are very stiff.
Hello, thanks for the video. Pity though we didn't get a good view of the final result. I own the same bike and am considering buying a set of these side frame from Hitchcock, but a detail just caught my attention. Are these frames for panniers leaning forward. On some videos and their website, I just got the impression the luggages are not really horizontal?
Hi no these pannier frames are horizontal….perfectly in line with the bike….they are by RE and very good quality from Hitchcocks. More videos to come on this bike and the upgrades 😊👍🏻
Good instructtions, thank you. But: did you REMOVE the top shock absorber bolt or did you just loosen it in order to get that panniers frame on? What happens if you remove that shock absorber bolt completely, will the bike collaps? Also, you did not put back the two side handles (the ones to lift the bike on its central main stand), why? Thank you.
The top shock bolt has to be REMOVED to fit the frames and provided you do one side at a time there is no collapse of the suspension. I left the handles off as the pannier frames work well as a grab point for centre standing the bikes😘
Great vid! Thank you... One question: when you attach the rails for the bags, can someone sit on the pillion OK? In other words, with the brackets in place, but no bags on...asking for the wife 😆 Ride Safe 🙏🏼
