Hey guys, I made a mistake! The S&S claim to give a 13 Nm torque increase, NOT horsepower, when paired with an aftermarket air filter. It's only about a 1% horsepower increase. Sorry about that!
@frederickwoods5943
@frederickwoods5943 8 дней назад
Thanks for the correction. NO exhaust system gives a 13-percent increase in horsepower. Even though I have spent thousands of dollars (U.S.) with S&S, it has always been obvious that their claims are bogus. The only way to increase horsepower is to go inside the engine with larger displacement and/or higher compression. You are correct that one-percent is more realistic, the biggest advantage is the weight loss on the Enfield 650s by removing the stock silencers.

There was a video on the TEC uk web site which gave a far greater power increase with 2-1 pipe with a filter. Also not clear what situation is re baffle(s) re in and out. You could have timed or noted max speed on a steepish incline over a set distance in one gear as a direct comparison of power.

I got a 2022 rocker red GT. Added bar end mirrors, solo seat, and S&S slip ons. The sound is great and the vintage looks are bring many questions from strangers that can't believe it's age. Also S W Motec legend soft paniers. None of my BMW's ever drew the audience that my GT & Classic brings. At the price, they bring me so much pleasure., and smiles at the end of the day. 🤠🤠

Also worth bearing in mind the Tec is a full system whereas the S&S are just slip ons. A better comparison would’ve been the S&S AND new free flow headers, which pushes the price way up. The Tec has a major advantage with the weight saving, but I still prefer the two pipe set up, so my preference would be neither, but the Enfield Precision shortys from Hitchcocks in the UK, with their free flow headers, both of which can be had in polished Stainless steel.

My bike came with the S&S slip on's right from the dealer they put on them and other accessory's . They do make a good sound I have to say I haven't hear a tech exhaust . I did put on headers from Hitchcocks Polished SS which for looks is much nicer than the TEC for sure and the sound has change for the better . Be honest the bike does look more classic with the two to two. Over the winter I took apart the top end and put in the S&S cam and since the bike was apart I put in the high compression pistons not the big bore they are still 78mm just up the compression to 11 to 1. Now the bike's sound has changed once again same pipes as before but different sound. Now I do have in the garage the S&S race two to one that I got on a trade to try on the bike to see how it compares to the S&S slip on's and Hitchcocks header performance to S&S race two to one. I'm told it should be better but is it better looking than 2 to 2🤔 but before I put them one I have to grind down those ugly welds on them 😮

Bought the tec, spent a couple hundred on having it ceramic coated black. Really like it, and I agree with you; this is a budget bike spending stupid amounts of money really goes against the whole philosophy of this bike.

This is a hard one they are both similar but I have to go with the throaty sound of the S&S slip-ons. It's all about sound for me.

Tec bikes is less than 20 mile away from me. However I still got my silencers for my Continental from India via ebay (Powerage long cones), free delivery and even with custom charges it came to just £250, whereas the Tec silencers are £300. I wouldn't have gone for the 2 into 1 though, as I like the classic looks of the twin long cone silencers. PS My brother has the Tec silencers on his Super Meteor. They both sound great (we both keep the baffles in).

Thanks! Interesting that you're so close and still picked something else! I was fine with the sound with the baffle in, but removed it for the video because the GT650 with the S&S showed up with no baffles so I wanted to make things as apples to apples as I could.

Nice to see and hear the comparison. But I feel like there’s two reasons for new exhaust. 1) it sounds good. 2) more horsepower. But if that’s why we upgrade our exhaust we should also upgrade the air intake and change camshaft to a performance one. That’s the best way to increase horsepower in a bike like this I would think.
@YouMotorcycle

Best way is to sell it and buy something that you don't have to make fast lol. Like the Bonneville from my best midsize retro motorcycles series, it cost less than the used Interceptor, and it made over 60 horsepower from factory.

Interesting comparison. I looked at all options before settling on the TEC Stinger. S&S was my second choice but the cost was unjustifiable (im in UK so Tec 2-1 was only £300). Weight saving and narrowing of the overall profile of the bike for storage is a huge advantage with the Tec. Also comes with baffle as standard in the UK and I believe it is advised by Tec to keep baffle in at all times. I cleaned up the welds etc on mine (tooth brush and autosol) to improve the finish and it now looks great. Have seen others that have polished to a mirror finish which also looks good. Cheers.
@YouMotorcycle
@YouMotorcycle 8 дней назад
Thanks! I actually had a part in the video about the narrow profile being nice (I bring some of my motorcycles inside the house over the winter, one of the doorways is quite narrow)... but I cut that part out of the video because it seemed too specific and I didn't think anyone else would care. Now I know better :) Re: the baffle - here they seem to be optional, and I haven't seen any mention of TEC recommending keeping the baffle in. Any idea why the recommend this? I was fine with the sound with the baffle in, but removed it because the S&S came with no baffles and I wanted to make the comparison as apples to apples as I could.
@GracieSpence-o3l
@GracieSpence-o3l 8 дней назад
@@YouMotorcycle it's my understanding that the advice to keep the baffle in is so the silencer doesn't get damaged/lose insulation wool. This isn't a problem with the S&S which is all steel. I think your comparison is spot on with baffles out. Another interesting point I have seen mentioned by others is that performance is improved with baffles in on both Tec and S&S.🤷🏼‍♂️

Howdy 🤠 I agree with the comparisons isn’t exactly equal on this one. Since S&S does have their own 2-1 system for this bike, I rather see that comparison. Esp with the claims being even higher & of course with it being S&S, the price is even steeper. From what I seen, it’s 3X for cost of Stinger. (For me) That being said, I’d love to see this comparison done with both bikes having K&N or such filter and side panels with some more airflow to see if the performance really is getting pushed. As for me, I’m biased towards the 2-1 systems for that top end horse power tbh. Which RE650’s need imho because they lack power for how heavy they are. And I don’t mean the duels don’t have the better look, but I feel comparison to the Triumphs I tried, RE just didn’t have the power to keep on twisty roads for me. Then again, for a midweight retro classic, I prefer a Z650RS, lol. That so far has been my fave in demo rides, I’d like to really get to experience one. As usual, I appreciate your comparisons, you’re answering the real questions out there man. So, have a good one 😊

Thanks so much man! Just making the best I can with whatever passes through my backyard! If anyone around Toronto has an S&S 2 into 1 system and wants to come by to do a spin-off video just let me know lol. And yeah, the lack of power kind of does the Interceptor in a bit for either more experienced or bigger riders who want more power. If you think that Z650RS is sweet, my friend, if you can get on a Z900RS, honestly, I think you'll really like it. Kawasaki has made a fantastic motorcycle. Personally, I just never meshed with the sound of an in-line four, it doesn't do it for me at all, but that bike is fan freakin tastic.
@Confedyank
@Confedyank 8 дней назад
@@YouMotorcycle Honestly, Z900RS is solid good bike, but I'm same for preferring twins, which is why I like Bonnie T120 more. But, Z650RS is more speed/weight I rather have given I do mountains riding. (Kinda on break from that due to lack of roads & extra traffic in mountains.) I know the RE650 is about same weight, but it's top end is barely able to get up to speed on expressways here, & people go bit faster down here, lol. So keeping up with that bike stock is struggle, but Z650RS at least does fine for that. And for riding in mountains, it was really confident inspiring for me. Altho, as for inline 4's, I like the ZRX1200r. Between it's way more old school retro classic that is my style (Yes, I like carbed bikes) But it's still that 400's weight that seems easier for me to flick. I still gotta get chance to ride one. Altho, the power on it seems more like a track bike, lol

I ended up installing Emgo Hooligans, they are made in Taiwan I feel that most things made in Taiwan are very good engineering and less expensive, although I cant say this with certainty I think my Emgo Hooligans are more of a free flow than other brands and they are much , much less expensive for both slip-ons and with using the OE headers, they are also chrome so they match the OEM Headers. So my setup is Emgo Hooligans, Booster plug and a Free flow Air Filter. I don't know if I get more HP/Torque or not but it really runs really really nice and noticeably smoother, if you were on a stock RE650 then rode mine you would be very pleasantly surprise I think. The S&S Torque increase with out the after market headers I don't think so maybe 5 NM increase lol ( I don't know) S&S might be reaching to justify their price tag I think. One thing I would say is my bike does not sound as nice as either of those pipes but for sure my pipes look better, let the engine breath better and only cost about 400 with Shipping and Tax. 400 bucks is justifiable for what one gets. Thanks for the vid buddy, great to watch on a Sunday morning having my coffee. Cheers.

Nice comparison and lots of good points. S&S are well known and well made, but they sure are spendy. I had a Tec 2-1 and was not happy with the quality and fit. Just wasn't great. I ended up with an AEW 2-1. Price-wise it is in between the S&S and Tec. Quality (IMHO) is better than the Tec with cleaner welds and better fit. Sound is also pretty much in the middle. Not as raspy as the Tec.

Have the stinger and modified pats off the engine guard to fit properly.... quality price sound top .Bought second hand half price because owner coudn't fit engine guard. What i don't like on the s&s it takes the dirt and stones from front wheel and sure not fit my homemade skid plate or any other skid plate .

But the S&S setup is just slipon with stock headers. TEC will be a free flow system, the sound will be completely different. Get a big bore header for S&S also, then the comparison will be competitive.
@YouMotorcycle
@YouMotorcycle 8 дней назад
Disagree. It isn't a fair comparison, nor was it meant to be, and by following your example, it would actually be even more unfair. We're already comparing two products with vastly different price-points. If we make the more expensive even more expensive, we're only making the comparison even more unfair. The idea is to show people what they are getting for their money, with what we have available. Not to spend thousands of dollars for a silly video that's just meant to be fun and helpful.
