Here is a great how to on the installation of the Royal Enfield factory sump guard /bash plate. In very easy to follow step by step fitting instructions.
Plus once fitted it looks really smart on the 650 Interceptor and also suits the 650 Continental GT too.
When its time to do your next oil and filter chanhe is simly just a matter of undoing the 4 hex bolts on the plate and carry on with the proceedure in the usual manner.

I just bought a GT (winter time) and had the dealer(tech) install engine guard and sump guard. One should always thank the techs for doing a good job to making your bike perfect. Looked to be more of a job than I would have wanted to tackle. " A mans got to know his limitations" LOL. 👍👍5🏍🙋‍♂️

I fitted the sump guard and engine bars at the same time. It isn't a quick easy job. With the oil filter being at the front, directly behind the front wheel maybe the sump guard should be a standard item fitted at the factory. Great video mate.

thanks- sump guard included would have made it an even better deal to buy one!

That sump guard *does* look smart! It protects the oil filter as well as the sump, and it says "This owner cares!".

Great review Warro ,you make it look easy ,amazing footage with the new Camera Mate 👍

wasn't that easy...lol took a fair while to do and in the end I was glad it was all over. crawling about to get the camera angles and several times not hitting the record! I think some of those other guys who really get into their clips must spend huge amounts of time putting just one together

Hi you don't need to remove the exhaust on the interceptor to fit the sump protector. You just need a small piece of 8mm hex and a 8mm spanner to fit the rear brackets. A ratchet spanner is better. The bolts don't need to come out of the frame.
@ridewithwarro

if thats the case -it could save quite a bit of work there

@@ridewithwarro Thats how i fitted mine. The left bracket is a bit fiddly the twin nut one. The right easy. But man do thy do there bolts up tight. All you need to do is wind the nuts off and leave the bolts in the frame. Best Regards

Excellent tutorial, Warro! The close-up views, lighting, and narration were topnotch. The trial of the 2 ways to hang the exhaust headers was also helpful. Two questions: 1) How did you get the bike so clean? 2) How much clearance remained between the guard and the oil filter?
@ridewithwarro
@ridewithwarro 4 года назад
well I knew that camera would pick up the crap so I did a full concentrate grease and wax wash on the underside of the bike with a paint brush then a hose off. bike was pretty dirty underneath as I had never cleaned it and it had clocked up 6000 klm. actually got nearly all of it off too. pretty close. good area to do the work too -well apart from next doors large dog continuously barking while I am filming. actually echo's right through my verandah when I do my accessory clip I will show the clearance on the bash plate.

@ridewithwarro

not quite as bad as the install...lol I forgot to mention in the clip all you do is undo those 4 hex head bolts and remove the plate itself. so its pretty quick.

@@ridewithwarro Royal Enfield spend years designing and building a great bike by the looks of things and they stick the oil filter out there where its just going to be hit by stones and crap. Lots of manufacturers do the same thing would it kill them to put a stone shield on their bikes?
@DEeMONsworld
@DEeMONsworld 4 года назад
@@TheBernie1962 you change out the oil filter every 4,000 kilometers, who cares if a stone nicks it. I'd rather have the access.

Very useful video. Out of interest . Does the front bracket make it more difficult to get the oil filter out . I know the plate needs to come off. Just wondering about the bracket.

A fair old job, I would concede, mate. But the protection you get could be worth its weight in gold. Theres a fair bit of nasty damage and work that guard is preventing. Was that the stock exhaust, Warro, I forget? That was some serious weight to maul with the muffler attached; I think taking it off would transform the job for someone without your size and strength. Even so, seemed to keep your biceps pretty busy, mate! I know the editing is a faff but the footage on your new kit definitely aces the old. The jewel in the crown is on the closeup and zoom work; it is pin sharp and smoother on the new kit. However, for a quick session, the old gear is perfectly acceptable if you are short on time. Seems strange, not seeing the ktm alongside the other 2 in your paddock! It'll be back soon. Really like all 3 of 'em; I'll be lucky if I can buy 1 of them, so it's great to see someone get all 3 and have them to bits, play with them and put them through their paces. Thank you kindly for letting us into your playground, friend...lol. keep smilin' chap.....

ktm is not far away. just that the service was overdue. if I pre-booked i'd be waiting a week or more for the drop off and i'd still ride it. this way its dropped and as soon as its done I will collect and its good for a few thousand more klm. I think next service is at 7500 klm so its a fair run after that first hit

So, with the sump guard, you have to go thru this whole process in reverse when you need to replace your oil filter...I think I'll give the sump guard a miss...
