After listening to Stuart Fillinghams reviews, I purchased my Intercepted the week before Christmas and could not be happier. I have owned over 14 motorcycles over the last 40 years from Hondas to Harleys, Ironhorse Chopper, several Triumphs and a Moto Guzzi, Ducati Multistrada and several Japanese bikes to name a few. I'm at an age in my life where I just want to go for a ride.....I don't want a key Fob or mode switch, I just want to jump on a classic and go for a ride. Northern California is made for this and I utilize as many back roads as I can. The price was incredibly low for a this Interceptor 650 and truly the best motorcycle deal I have ever made. I've already started to add accessories and upgraded the mufflers to the S&S slip ons which made the bike sound perfect. Not too loud, just the throaty rumble that makes me smile when I back of the gas.
Hey, Jeffrey, where in Norcal? I’m north of Sac w a Triumph Bonneville and curious where you you picked up the Royal Enfield. I’ll be leaving CA in a few months (it’s Nov 2020) or I’d suggest we meet up and ride. I’m 56 now and prefer to put-put and lose myself in the moment versus drag a knee with my heart in my throat, lol.
The first impression I. Seeing the bike in person in NYC, was that they hit it out of the ballpark. It doesn't look ironic, or any sort of forced retro. It looks like a damn time machine brought it over to us. It looks so insanely "natural" that as a potential buyer, I would leave it bone stock. Fantastic review as well. Keep up the good work!!
@The Rockall Times wow done with spreading false propoganda, you must be having sad life, I own an RE from last 2 years with more than 8000 km driven and I don't have any such problem with it and for your kind information it's base model 350 bullet, I don't know why you are jealous with Indians, I have seen you in other threads spreading venom against India, I don't have any problem appreciating European brands if they are good.

I'm in Cambodia. Ever since they joined Asean, Indian made motorcycles are cheap here. I would love to swap my Bajaj shopping trolley out for a 650 enfield. Great Review. I really like the RE line. It is nice to see a company making bikes that are reasonable in price and size. I wish them success in their endeavors.
A motorcycle that looks like a motorcycle.. and let's be honest, who really needs a bike with a bigger engine than this? We've been brainwashed into thinking that a 1200 is the norm..

I thought this was a good review. I wouldn't go as far as a negative. But other bikes won't cruise or pull at 30 mile an hour in top gear? Ever bike I can ever remember owning will do that. Including my old Kawasaki 6 speed ZX10. Maybe some people just didn't like his style?
@@fiveowaf454 its ok , its a long stroke bike and produces only 47bhp and it delivers power linearly , the torque is good though , and weighs only 200kgms if rider is careful it with protective gear it should not be a big problem.
A heartiest thanks to you dear sir from the very core of my heart for giving us this awesome feedback about one of my beloved classic 650 twins. I am going to buy this awesme classic 650 twin in ravishing red colour. Believe me the ravishing red colour really looks stunning and eye catching. As I am a weekend rider and I do ride mostly on sundays so I think this interceptor 650 twin really fulfills my thirst for leasure riding. Over the last 22 years i've owned 3 Kawasaki's, 3 Triumphs, and a Ducati. Bought one of these a few weeks back, already my favorite bike ever. Such a pure riding machine. Many back roads will be surfed through this summer in a state of pure bliss.
Absolutely the best review and superbly executed. The speech, videography, location and script are perfect to lead the viewer understand the motorcycle.
I would love to have one of these bikes. It has exactly that "classic" look that I have been looking for and a 650cc is plenty enough to keep me entertained.
@@jimdunne3696 got one have you? its built in a new fully automated factory with Japanese quality control standards, they are giving a 3 year wrranty with roadside assistance here in the UK so that would suggest that they are pretty confident about reliability.
Excellent work. This is how an automobile review should be. For that matter, this is how any product review should be done. Keep up the good work mate. Cheers 👍
Glowing review for sure. Enjoyed it! I ride the SW deserts and mountains of the US but love the green fields, small roads and ancient places of merry old England. Made me want to come to England to buy and ride the Interceptor. Don't understand how one can dislike the video.
I have had my Interceptor since April 2nd and have got 1300 miles on her. Took off the pipes and replace them with Wassels. It lost over 1 stone and rides and handles better than my 05 T100. If you are not sure about this bike I would say take one for a ride and buy one asap. It is a dream to own and ride.
waited 12 months for this bike, no test ride paid for it ,rode away from dealer without haveing even heard it roar, best bike i have ever had every one should buy one ,it does what it says it does. had abig smile on face after 17 mile trip home buy one you will enjoy it
Same here Chris, although I didn't have to wait as long. I've now put almost 3,000 Km on the clock and have loved every second of it. A fantastic bike that deserves all the kudos it gets. I'm off on a long ride soon and then in October will be heading to Phillip Island for the Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix, a round-trip distance of over 6,000 Km. I'm looking forward to it!
Why is it that in India the 650 Interceptor and the 350 bullet are available with carburetors the bike shed to Australia are also having carburetors me if I had that bike I would put a set of Amal concentric Mark ones on them I know how to take them apart clean them and put them back together and they work on the bike maybe not as horsepower as Mikuni's but so much simpler
I've a deposit on a red/black tanked one and I pick it up Wednesday the 26th. I'm 64 years old, retired. This is the British bike I could not afford in 1972 when I bought a red hot Kawasaki triple 2-stroke 350 screamer. Well now I can easily buy a hundred or more Thruxtons.... But....I don't want to die quite yet.
Burt, I am a tad older, but that '68 TR6 was just beyond my budget at that time and like you I have fallen for the red/black version as well. Enjoy it when you pick her up and good luck with it.

Great review. I agree with almost every bit of what you've said here. I rode one, made a review video that fits your description of most initial impression videos, and then went back to the shop the next business day and bought the bike. It is phenomenal for the price, and good at a couple thousand dollars more. I've got 80mi (about 139km) on the clock two days after picking it up, and plan on the first service by the end of a fortnight. This bike is outstanding! Enjoyed your video, and thank you much.
I just got out of hospital after major surgery on back..... I think it's time for a mellow bike no more monster M109 or killer Busa's.......... Love these twins
Coltnz1 I’m a Brit living in California for last 38 years. Glad you helped me place that accent! I’m not a biker but I love this review- let’s the bike be the star not the reviewer!
Hooray, a motorcycle with well proportioned parts, frame and tank, that doesn't look like a preying mantis or large insect. Oh, that's SO yesterday. Thank goodness for that.
This is one of the videos that really helped me pick this bike 😊 well summarised. The engine is an absolute gem. Enjoying my interceptor for the past 6 months now 😁
Nice review! Beautifully filmed as usual, with many great views and angles on what looks like a great, simple, and honest bike. I have too many bikes already but have to admit that I’m sorely tempted. Your positive review is just making it harder to resist ;-)
I really like my interceptor. The only issues I have with it are: - Both gauges get very noticeable condensation in cold weather. This seems very common and must be down to excessive humidity when they were built and sealed. - It would be nice to have a clock, even if it was not visible all the time and was just an option you could cycle through to on the LCD screen. A gear indicator would also be nice but not essential. -The C spanner in the factory toolkit is the most hopeless tool I have come across. It's stamped shape seems almost deliberately designed to want to ride out of the rear shock slots and damage their aluminium adjusting ring. I don't know how they got this so wrong.
Yes you are right for the most... India is humid...where it is manufactured.... And recently royal enfield collabbed with google to create a turn by turn navigation system and connected features for their new 350cc cruiser called meteor and also updated their 400cc offroader himalayan with the same updated consoles... So it might make its way into the 650 twins as well.
Have u resolved this yet? Had the same on a couple of bikes, easy fix.......drill a couple of tiny holes at lowest point on clocks(allows moisture to escape)
@@AuxesisHyperbole666 not that I've noticed(tho I'm not a fan of riding in rain!) Before it was constantly fogged up as water trapped couldnt escape, and now ive drilled 2 tiny(2mm) holes its not......
Hi Stuart, Whilst I love my Mag Wheel Bonnie I was tempted to get a newer model Triumph - Street Twin or T100 - when I retire in the near future, but,,,, Having just watched the RE 650 video, what a beautiful bike. oh dear what to do??
Love the looks of the Royal Enfield - obviously because I bought one in a neighboring state. It is now winter and lots of snow and ice but I go out to the garage and love sitting on it, cleaning it and waxing it (even though the bike doesn't need it), and think about the early days of spring and taking the Enfield over some mountain roads. Really like your videos.
If I could still ride I would very likely be looking at one of these, sounds like they should sell like nuts at a squirrel factory(as Tom Mccahil of Mechanix illustrated used to say)But with a sideways left foot, and a fused neck, with that fused to the skull, bikes are pretty much out,(even though I still have a .75 Goldwing, (The bike I learned to ride on) and a '73 Tiger 750, so I have to make do with a ragtop Corvette-pretty good substitute really. I much enjoy your views, takes me back to the good old days,I used to do around 20 thousand miles a year, which in New England isn't too bad, would you be from the North March, your speech reminds me of Barry on Summer wine(I had to correct that as my lousy typing had it at Batty, and no you don't sound that much like Nora !) I did a lot of riding for many years,( the wifi and I took our honeymoon on our bikes, hers was a CB 900), so over my 71 years, I've had my share of fun!
The three year, unlimited mileage warranty, and roadside assistance tend to suggest, RE have got their act together. This is a totally new bike, and with proper servicing and maintenance, should be no worse than many other, far more expensive bikes our there.
This really is an excellent comprehensive review thank you Stuart - Surely the Interceptor has to be on anyone’s radar that’s in the market for a new classic retro at such an attractive price. Maybe that 3 year unlimited mileage warranty will stir up the competition to follow suit? It certainly should... If you go ahead and add one to the stable, l and many others will be keeping a keen eye on your future related productions l’m sure...!
got myself the GT conti - in India, its virtually a gift. Feels great, smooth and classy. my first bike -- at 54. frankly no other Indian bike was worth it up to now. The only problem I've had was keeping the revs down during the run-in. I was told to get the Interceptor coz riding position would be harsh for an old boy like me, however I've decided to let my body get used to it. It is literally the best thing I have ever done for myself. the cruise on an open road is damn therapeutic. Thanks RE!
John Wick killed my dog. Somewhere in this vicinity, as he thanked a company in Louth for the loan of the bike. The Lincolnshire wolds a bit of still unspoiled English countryside. Well worth a weekend. I bought my favourite hat there. Louth, UK goo.gl/maps/CPFmFFNWGzXYJMKp9
Stuart, this was one of the big videos that swayed me to buy this bike. So far, 1 month and 1300 miles later I am still happy with my choice. I have also purchased a new CB1100 in that same month, I love that one too. The Enfield has a different place in my English but living in America heart!!!
@don't follow me I went and sat on one at the weekend didn't get a chance for a test ride though, felt put together still concerned over size I'm 6'2 and 18 stone It did feel a little small but the wife said it looked fine need to book a test ride next
Great review.......for all of you who are concerned about reliability, you don't have to as the bike is INDIAN made FOR INDIAN condition that combination works excellent in the west as you don't have roads inside pothole(we do🤣😂) and have potholes on road😂. Besides as an INDIAN company ROYAL ENFIELD has come a long way from unreliable bikes.this is a world class product design at ENGLISH HOME with BRITISH ENGINEERING , Eicher Motars(famous for reliability in the trucks division) and made by INDIAN manufacturing which is a Masterful combination in its own.
@@stuartfillingham i understand your post, but there are lot channels who are reviewing these bikes, some of them even leap to say and I quote,"its a very well made bike considering its made in india"(MC commute), that kinda stings a little considering we are manufacturing for KTM duke and RC and BMW G310R and GS for the world market and soon to manufacture for triumph and norton as well.(i know its a little out of context) But i say that because majority of nations where the bike is sold apart from India have excellent road and weather conditions. India is land of extremes, so its safe to say if its tested and made to tailor Indian conditions and roads, it is going to handle pretty much all the variables in west.
@@garrypepperman Having lived in India for some years I can promise you that you have no idea what potholes are until you ride / drive in India, especially just after the monsoon. And yes, I'm a Londoner so can make the comparison...some of the roads I used to take regularly looked more like the Somme battlefield than a regular Indian road as seen in holiday programmes.
Well Stuart, it has to be said, that's a hell of a lot of bike for the money. And I wonder, if they're being honest, how many people need much more than what it gives...........
Well, what a surprise! My experience with Royal Enfield has been limited to the 1960s when British bikes were the best. However, at that time my opinion, and that of my friends, was that they were unreliable, much worse than BSA, but not nearly as much fun. It was Triumph Bonnevilles and Norton Atlases for us, and an occasional Matchless. While it doesn't sound like this bike will win any impromptu street races, at least it sounds like it will spend more time on the road than in the garage. And at an affordable price.
Brilliant video Stuart and very entertaining. This is the bike Triumph should have made years ago. Kawasaki tried with the W650 but failed to capture the essence of the classic British twin. Now enter Royal Enfield and take centre stage. This is what us classic lovers have been waiting for. It seems simplicity is indeed the ultimate sophistication.
Kwaks W650/800 recreation of their own take on a 65 Beezer, was arguably a more authentic bike than any Bloor Triumph, and also this RE (being manufactured by the same manufacturer of the original, so to speak) and is a superb machine, but jeez it's expensive, even used This RE hits the spot because of its price point, right in there with the Guzzi 750 retros I'm holding my wallet until I see what happens with less restrictive pipes and filters etc, Ideally I'd like 55 to 60 hp
I'm considering the w800 but the price on this one is something to think about. The dealership availability is an issue as I've never seen a Royal Enfield dealer. The Kaw is pretty sweet and I actually know someone who has one that I drool over. Too bad my present bike (a 2013 NC700X) is still in great but two bikes are almost necessary, right? And, I'd like to have three for a nice balance. Just have to move further south to enjoy them more. Presently in the top of The Peoples Republic of Illinois.
@@DomRivers67 It was less than their own take. In the mid sixties they bought the license from BSA to build their bike. So, there was Kaw "W" back in the day.
@@russellmarshall5288 Well, I just have the bug for a new machine. My NC700X is very functional but this one will be cool to park outside the gin mill and to go out riding with the boys.
I'm a 66 year old American and I grew up in the era when a Triumph 650cc Bonneville and a 883cc Harley XLCH were considered the fastest bikes around and the ones everybody wanted. I remember seeing small black and white ads for RE Interceptors in magazines but never saw one in person back then even though I lived in a fairly large city, San Diego, CA. I ended up owning Triumphs, Harleys, and assorted Japanese bikes, but to this day I still feel the old series 1 & 2 Interceptors are the best looking bikes of that era. I'm happy to see RE bringing back the Interceptor and I'm considering getting one actually. If I could change something on the new models I would of course want a kick starter added (I'm old school) and I would gladly pay another $100 for the bikes if they would do away with the flange around the gas tank, but other than those two relatively minor things it's a beautiful bike. I've owned much bigger and faster bikes but in the end I have to say my favorite bike I've ever owned was a '66 Triumph Bonneville, fast, nimble, and handled nice. Let me add one more thing, nice honest review, thumbs up!
An interesting comment, supposedly the law re motor bikes was changed at some stage sayng that any bike marketed in the USA must have left hand gear change [well it's logical if you drive on the right] I wonder if your 66 Bonny had right hand gear change in the traditional British style [even old CZ and Jawa had right hand gears in the old? days, odd for continental bikes].
Yes Indians have a great pride and love derived from a long long history with RE. But this bike is going to be huge for RE. There's a company in the US already working on a 750 kit. I'm betting RE will develop very similar engines in the area of 900 CC's. I pick up my red/black 650 on Wednesday. India should be very proud of what they've done at RE.
@@burtvhulberthyhbn7583 still we need to figure out the complex mechanism adopted in super bikes and make our own brand... It's a pride for an nation to have super bike models of own. We wish we could achieve it... Love and peace..😊😊
@@vivekanandan5093 I can understand what you're saying but this retro bike will sell like crazy. A big bore upsizing to about 900 CC's I can imagine already. RE is tapping an unfulfilled market niche. Good business practice like this will make huge money for India.
Thanks for the great review. Across the pond here in the colonies they are making waves as well! I whole hardheartedly agree that pricing may rise, here seeing a lot of competition from used triumphs, however they offer an outstanding warantee, 3 years unlimited mileage and roadside assistance included. Great to see interest in "Standar" or "Cafe" type bikes again, just honest bikes that make you look for a reason to ride!
I guess it's time for Honda to relaunch the cb450 from the 60's which made 43 ponnies. While they are at it they could launch the cb750 also. I am blown away how much we still love the classic looks and style. All the old bike could be relaunched, not the z900rs type, we need the classics as is, with better suspension and frame and other small bits, but keep the looks and the sound.
I couldn't agree more, the newest bike I own is a 2001 Royal Enfield 500 Bullet, my other bikes are from 1979-82. I don't like the looks of modern bikes, they all seem to look the same to me, if it wasn't for the badge on the tank I wouldn't know what they were.

If royal enfield serious about large motorcycle market like Indonesia they really need to consider open a factory here, at least ckd build products, because indonesian tax for import are not on their side, but seriously, their motorcycle looks cool, i even willing to forget how minimum technology they offer.
Love theses bikes and want one . Here is the issue and the reason why they will never catch on in the USA . No dealer network . Closet dealer for me is 100 miles away here in PA . We have a Harley Dealer in every town in America .
I never really paid much attention to these bikes. I went last weekend to a manufacturer's motorcycle show. There were several different Royal Enfield motorcycles there and they were all just my style. Loved the INT650, the Continental GT, and even the Meteor 350. They look like motorcycles made of metal. It's like riding a 60's motorcycle, but brand new, with fuel injection, ABS, and a warranty. Amazing!
Great review Stuart. I went to view the bike at a dealer in East London, there was none available and not even a demonstrator could be offered. Demand for them has by far outstripped supply and the waiting list is now exceeding three months.
Great review of the motorcyle. Im tempted to go and ride one myself. After clocking 15.000 kilometers on my Classic 500 it may be time for an upgrade. All the problems on the Classic models are down to high vibrations at higher speed, nog due to build quality. I think Royal Enfield has a winner at hand.

And yes, I hadn't seen the colour scheme in front of my eyes as compared to the orange crush one. But when i finally got to visualise it in front of the custom one, NO DOUBT i found the orange crush is the colour to go for.. its too classy for the original orange and chrome scheme.
