I suggest you to do MIG welding in place of this welding because MIG heats lesser than this. And because of this heat iron get tempered and hard. Tempered teeth could sudden break. This will not happen in case of MIG welding. And second thing do nurling on both pices ,or you can do male female teeth like clutch plates. That would be much better. This is a suggestion take it positively....

It’s always recommended to,preheat cast iron before welding so that rate of cooling could be made slower and thus cracking ofmpart can be avoided as cast iron has brittle properties

Very ingenious. One suggestion brother. When you weld on cast iron, preheat the rear drum before welding. After the welding is done, allow the fixture to cool down before machining. This will avoid stress cracking of the weld.
