Q1. Clockwise Q2. Anti-Clockwise ( as connected by chain/belt so will move in the same direction ) Q3. Cog B ( because Smaller cogs rotate more than larger cogs ) Q4. A Q5. C Q6. D Q7.Z since it has more supporting ropes Q8. 147N ( there are 2 supports connected directly to the 60kg and each one is connected to 2 ropes so 4 connected ropes overall 60/4 = 15 15 x 9.8 = 147N Q9. B (because pulley System B has no supporting ropes / mechanical advantage ) Q10. 13.333kg ( weight x distance from fulcrum/triangle to weight ) 10 x 2 = 20 (distance from the fulcrum to where the weight will be applied is 1.5 m ) 20/1.5 = 13.3333kg Q11. 4kg (same reasoning as above ) Q12. 3.6 km Ship is travelling 0.8m/s + the flow of 0.2m/s = ship is travelling at 1m/s 1 hour = 3600 seconds = 3600 meters as the ship is travelling 1 metre every second 3600m = 3.6km Q13. A ( as this is the shortest distance between the pivot and the pendulum ) Q14. B ( Due to the angle gravity will increase the velocity of the ball falling to the ground compared to A where it would roll down slower ) Q15. A ( you would have to move it closer as despite them being the same size they are different sizes/ weight ) Q16. B ( This is because in a level container pressure is exerted on the bottom due to gravity. This pressure is equal in all directions at the same depth within the liquid. To maintain equilibrium the water weould flow from the high pressure (wide area) A to the low pressure (area B) and vice versa until the water levels on both sides were the same. Q17.A ( they are the same weight which is why they are equally balanced ) Q18. C ( it would balance closer to the heavier weight, moving a beam closer to the lighter weight would result in structural failure ) Q19. A ( : The longer support provides better leverage, reducing the bending moment and stress on the material, making it less likely to break compared to a shorter support holding the same shelf) Q20. B ( At the centre of its swing, the bob has minimal potential energy (it's at its lowest point) and has converted most of that energy into kinetic energy, making it reach its maximum speed.

The pully systems were taught poorly, I understand it, however that is only because I was taught ells where, the way you count the supporting ropes was not clear, you sort of just gave us a number with little to no explanation, and the way of calculating the force behind a pully rope was also a little lack lustre maybe a brief explanation on what mechanical advantage is as well.

In Q4, cog B looks smaller than cog A, so why does it not rotate faster than cog A?
@how2become
@how2become Год назад
Good question! It is because the two cogs that touch and rotate cog A and B have the same amount of teeth. Cogs A and B also have the same amount of teeth, meaning that even if the size of the actual cog is different, it cannot rotate at a different speed. I hope this helps! When is your assessment? :)

On question 9, I'm struggling to understand why option D is more effective than option B? I understand that pulley B is just changing the direction of the force with no MA, but why does Pulley D have an advantage? The only difference I see is Pulley B is Fixed, and Pulley D is movable, with opposite force directions.
@how2become
@how2become Год назад
The answer here is B. This is because pulley System B has no supporting ropes, and therefore has no mechanical advantage. Therefore, it is the least effective system for lifting the 10 kg weight. I hope this helps!

@@jacobgeorge5821 I agree, however since the water is being 'poured' in at a lower level than A and B (which would just cause it to overflow out of hole it is being poured into) I assumed it was sealed, and therefore the pressure would send the water up through the narrowest tube (tube B). V unclear question though, I think it is fair to challenge it! I guess the fact that point A and B are both closed as well means that this question wasn't really executed that well.

For Q8 there are 4 supporting ropes. Here's how to work out the answer: 60 ÷ 4 = 15 15 × 9.8 = 147 For Q9 the answer is B. This is because pulley System B has no supporting ropes, and therefore has no mechanical advantage. Therefore, it is the least effective system for lifting the 10 kg weight. I hope this helps! :)
