The life of the Fleet Air Arm's most celebrated pilot has been honoured with a memorial flying display. Captain Eric "Winkle" Brown died in February this year. Since then, Royal Naval Air Station (RNAS) Yeovilton has been tracking down many of the aircraft he flew.

And as he pointed out no matter how many Marks of Spitfires he flew it only counted as 1. Which makes his achievement all the more amazing.

Yea, 478 different aircraft NOT including variants.. I can't even fathom what the number would be with all variants included in the total

Met him at a Helitech event at Redhill Aerodrome some years ago. Had a drink and very nice chat with him until his hosts arrived. Great to meet a genuine legend and such a gentleman.

A single example of what he described as 'Acceptable Risk', he rode a Motorbike with a Sidecar on a Wall of death, his p[passenger was an adult Lion. I have a signed and dedicated copy of his book about the Miles M.52 which really shows his grasp of the technical nitty gritty, an extraordinary Pilot and a very humble man unlike Yaeger...
