Exclusive interview with Captain Eric 'Winkle' Brown -- WW2 aviator, one of the world's greatest test pilots and, holder of the record for number of different aircraft types flown.
We caught up with Captain Brown at the launch of special exhibition at Farnborough Air Sciences Trust (FAST) Museum at Farnborough UK, which told the story of a special display in 1945 of all the captured Luftwaffe aircraft at Britain's RAE Farnborough.

As an American, I consider Capt “Winkle” Brown something akin to a national treasure even though he is from the UK. His contributions to aviation development on both sides of the pond almost defy description. He is truly missed. Thanks for posting this and keeping this aviation icon alive in our hearts.

It's not very often you listen to a man that is unquestionably the very best in his field of knowledge and experience. Quite remarkable to listen to his analysis.

It can't have been that creep. There is no way that he would simply give this video a thumbs down. His pathological hatred of anything and everything British is so great that he would *have* to leave one of his filthy-mouthed, dyslexic infantile comments.

I was at this event. Eric Brown was guest of honour at the FAST museum's display comemorating the 1945 exhibition of captured German aircraft - many of which Brown had flown. I'm a member of IPMS Farnborough and we had been asked to provide 1/72 models of as many of the aircraft that were displayed in 1945 as possible. We built over 45 - my contributions being a Fieseler Fi103 Reichenburg and a Messerschmitt Bf110G. I ahd a long chat to Eric Brown who is a real gentleman.

Thank you for making this video available and of course to Captain Brown for being such an all round great guy. His book "Wings on My Sleeve" is an awesome read and has an appendix listing the 487 different aeroplanes he flew- and no I don't have shares in the book :)

His respect for Udet speaks volumes and when you look at all the great pilots that have come down the pike there is a mutual respect and sameness of their talent

My friend John McClure flew the Westland Whirlwind that Eric Brown panned. I think he would agree with it being underpowered by the Rolls-Royce "Perigrine" V12 engine. They only made about 130 of these cannon-armed fighters and they were all used up. None survive. The "small" Perigrine was a development of the RR "Kestrel" that powered the first Me. 109 if you can believe that.

I have just been corrected by Mr. McClure regarding the number of Whirlwinds produced. It was 114.

Captain Eric 'Winkle' Brown a true legend in every sense of the word, I had the honor of meeting Eric a few times mainly at Service Day Memorials, he was always a perfect gentleman and always had time for anyone, especially those interested in military aircraft history and even to a ground-pounder like myself. Captain, may you rest in peace, your service to the nations of the UK and the world. through the work you did to help ensure greater safety in the air industry in both military and civilian aircraft will never be forgotten.

Least he will not find out F-35 can't out fight an F-16 equipped with external tanks and is Mach limited due to adverse flight characteristics!

F 16s have always been like that. The trick is do blast them BVR before they get a chance.
