bending plastic works best when you apply steam. Just put the piece over a boiling teapot on the stove for 10 seconds and then bend away! Love your videos!
Yes you're right, just the summer sun here will do. BUT, this lid is not Plastic, It's some sort of pot-metal, of course heat will help here to, But controlled force works fine
I just recently acquired one of these, but its an Aristocrat, not much on YT on the Aristocrat. (Correction, color and that lid, and keys, but mine has a different basket and carriage, so mine doesn't exactly look like this one. I miss the AZ Rock Radio and the night show with Alice Cooper!) Found it living in a pawn shop, in immaculate condition, got it for 56 bucks, it was pawned off and owner never came back for it, the guy I bought it from said take it give it a good home since no one uses Typewriters anymore. Mine looks super brand new, its been loved and well taking care of. And on the Light setting it's really pleasant to use. Mine has that same lip on the edge of the lid facing you. Love the bell on mine, I have heard that these are great for small work, letters and envelopes to forms, but not good for novels? Well, I'd like ro differ, H or heavy setting os to make Bold characters, Medium for letters and envelopes, and Swutch it to Light or what I call cruise mode and ot just eats the pages it's just so smooth and easy and a pleasure to hear. I've found a new Drug. Update on Smith Corona 120, just waiting on the O-ring mock belts to some, Motor arrived looks excellent and exactly like the old one, I'm both hopeful and confident I can save it that which I have named: Lakota Stormcloud.
I know the primary difference between the 1950's Royal QDL and Aristocrat's was the Aristocrat didn't have a tabulator Royal sold this same typewriter with at least 10 different model badges, all with some variations of features
Great fix! My lid is missing as a used purchase. I think it went in the garbage judging by the problem it causes. Any source for a replacement you’d recommend?
Since I made that video I have seen 2 more of these, one was same as machine in video, other one was the style you mentioned Royal might have modified the design at one point
Phoenix Typewriter thanks for this video💗 I thought that’s what mine needed was a little bending, but quickly thought otherwise when I tried to do it. After placing it on a carpeted floor and leaning into it, I got it to budge ever so slightly. That was just enough to fix it. Lol. I think that cover plate gets bent from not being put back in the travel case properly. I got mine second hand and it was just clanking around in the case. Now I need to search for a video on how to lock it in there. 😂
Fixed the magic margins…cleaned the sticky crud off the rack. The hardest part was getting the back cover off the carriage and back on. Cleaned the type slugs, put a better ribbon in it, filled a page, no bad behavior, no skipping, no piling. Right knob shaft is bent but doesn’t affect operation, just noticed that today. Seller suggested it could be made into a planter, ha the thing types, not the best typewriter but it works.
I have one of these and the carriage won’t move when I type. It will move fully to the right when the tabs are pressed and the nylon string is intact. I wonder if you have any tips?
Did it ever work ? Was it shipped ? Space bar work ? You would need to troubleshoot, follow the linkage's, trip escapement manually. I would need to see machine in-person to analysis Best way to learn is getting a working machine and study theory of operation, then apply that to broken unit
@@phoenixtypewriter2136 it was my childhood typewriter, around 45 years ago and yes, it had been well looked after then. It had been stored away since and for around 10 years it had been kept in my cellar, not a good place to keep it, I’ve realised. I came across it this week, the keys were jammed but I managed to fix those. Bit of rust underneath. Yes, I should get it serviced and fixed professionally. Thanks.
I have one of these and I cannot seem to get it to type clearly. It's blurry when I try to type and really hard to press the keys. I did some cleaning using the supplies from one of your other videos. That didn't do much for it. The space bar also isn't working for me. Do you have a video on those sorts of repairs?
These are prone to shipping damage, common for carriage to get bent, causing all type bars to not strike platen roller correctly. Of course this is just my best guess without being able to see/touch/feel inspect typewriter in-person.
