Speaking of bugs. In the french berthier i got there was a live spider in the breech. It was prolly from ethiopia. It looked exotic. I promtly killed it with a wooden dowel.
I just bought one of the vetterli carcanos form them. overall pretty nice with a great bore. it was one of the rarer versione X ones for which parts are not interchangeable. only 5-7% are versione x.. It was an 1891 one of the last ones to be converted. they stopped in 1892. I see they raised the price from 299 to 349. glad to have gotten it before the price increase. Im pretty happy with it. no cleaning rod but was able to get a repro from SSfirearms.
Fun fact: The british once said: "the vetterli is a bad rifle. but it is better than a stick lol. Many of these were illegally sent to chinese warlords in a box that was labelled "japanese toys"
As old as they are & what / where they have been , they look pretty good now . I need to do some initial cleaning on some rifles I acquired , just have not had time , been working 10 hour shifts the past several months & 5 hours the last two Saturdays . Looking forward to you shooting the original one
@@usna98 I don’t think that will happen . The printing company I work for just installed a 5 million dollar printing press that runs 18,000 sheets a hour . I am second shift supervisor , with two people , besides myself . First shift has thirteen people . I am a cutter , folder , stitcher , forklift operator , which first shift has dedicated people to do . They are looking for help , yet it is hard to find people to work , besides working a 2nd shift . It is what it is , I manage my people & time to maximize my production . So between work , home projects ( quite a few to do ) & my firearms , I stay busy
My first gun from RTI was an 1870/87/15 I got a few years ago and it came in great condition other than dirty and grease. Most of the blueing was still on the rifle and the stock had zero cracks or major dings. Since then I’ve gotten a Carcano cavalry carbine which came in not as good condition as the Vetterli but it cleaned up nice just needing one screw replaced. Also got a mannlicher 1888/95 from them which came in great condition but it did take a while for them to ship it. Ordered a mannlicher 1888/90 “cut down” on the way. Can’t wait to get it
