The limited artwork is good, but man o man does the rest of the game look booooring. Dan, i'm going to start a drinking game based on you saying "Boom"
But boy it looks dry and bland.. The math exercise not even trying to hide behind the pasted theme :) Board is so plain. Though it is interesting that they chose not to do points track and just give tokens to everyone. I haven't played it, but it just doesn't feel like dominating in Europe. Maybe it would even be more interesting like some molecules or viruses fighting for dominance. Or dinosaurs! :D
When I first saw people playing this at BGG con I passed it by. But then I realized it was a Peter Hawes design and I decided to try it and I was glad I did. I would have missed out on one of the best new games. Having the points hidden instead of a point track really raises the tension. This is one that you have to play to really experience how great it is.

But for the life of me, I can't understand how you come to the conclusion you got in the end. Since you insist that this is one that we have to experience to appreciate, I will definitely jump on an opportunity to play Royals during my next open gaming session if it hits the table. I have no problem with being wrong.
