This is one of the few online speaker demo vids where the mic-ing is quite well done. I think it's good enough to give a genuine impression of what this speaker does. You don't see that too often in RU-vid vids, so thanks for that.

Had several of these Royd spks like sorcerer, sapphire & A14. They usually sound very fast, forward, transparent but a tad lean. These were usually driven by Naim & Exposure or Onix to get the most PRAT sound out of them.

Got the exact same speakers and tried with these songs just for fun. Such good sound in them! Found them second hand and don´t regret the buy one bit! Got them plugged in to a Technics SA-103.

All is always special in the UK, even the Gregorian calendar: The woofer is made on 31th of November 198x (see at 1:21). Great, I love this humor.

Could someone get a bobbin for that poor little inductor? My goodness, lol. While I believe in simple crossover circuits, oh boy. Maybe that nice tweeter deserves a little something more?

The elko in series with tweeter should be replaced with a plastic one. I know that vifa is very good and popular in uk. It is the soft dome 19mm model used also by Mission, JPW, etc.

i changed the crossovers a little bit, now i'm going to release a video to tell if they play better than the original , if the tests are successful then I will put Jantzen Audio Z-Silver

Yes that’s right that vifa tweeter is used in many budget spks of the time. Highly detailed, open & transparent if a tad brash & uncouth. But at the price of the tweeter, its superb.

Very cheap and, by the looks of it, quite poor parts in the crossover, box and speaker elements.

The parts are perfectly adequate for the application. Boutique capacitors, inductors & resistors are a complete waste of money and offer nothing over standard parts. If the parts are still within spec (they will be), then in terms of audio quality, they cannot be improved upon.

@@talshayar4279 Agree about the parts in the filter. I was mostly thinking about the electrolytic capacitors, which are quite questionable in terms of long-term stability. On an old speaker, I would definitely replace them, even if the capacitance still happened to be ok. The box and the speaker element were probably ok, by the standards of the time and the price. Today, a slightly more advanced DIYer would probably do everything better. I haven't heard the speakers, but I have no reason to think the sound is bad.
