RP Min-Maxing Strategy, Tips, and Guide For War Thunder's Grind

First tipp: Don't play nations that you already have unlocked everything.... Me sitting here with my rank 2 US planes waiting for the real tipps....

Thought I'd add something that I learnt the hard way a few weeks ago. If your vehicle youre currently researching, say only has about 2k RP left, and you then play a battle and make said 2k RP from the match, you will obviously instantly complete it. However, here's the catch, if you have also just finished a tier of modifications on your current tank and got the RP bonus, that bonus will be wasted. It does not get saved for the next vehicle. So you're better off quickly switching the in-research vehicle to something else before the match, dumping your modifications bonus and then going back to finish the job. Or play a different tank until that last 2k RP is complete, thought I'd share this since I lost a 20k RP bonus from Mods like this.

My biggest tip DO NOT "accelerate research" with golden eagles! Ive seen way too many ppl with only 40-70 vehicles for USA but they have the f14. SAVE YOUR MONEY

One thing to mention for people that don't know is that grinding planes is WAY faster than tanks, with only premium and having a decent game you can get 10k RP peer match, with a premium vehicule you can make a solid 20k or even more, but on tanks is way slower because the RP is a little bit capped i feel like, for example having an amazing match with only premium will give you a max of 7.7k RP that goes to your next tank, having a premium tank will give you up to 12k and this is playing super good, so keep that in mind when you start grinding tanks vs planes.

I go a slightly different path. I build up SL for a while playing vehicles I like and do the daily missions. Then I jump into a tree that I'm researching and unlock those vehicles I want, then spade them out, switching between those unlocked vehicles until they're spaded. Right now, that means researching Italian vehicles and play Germany/US to build SL. I know it's slower to research, but it keeps my sanity and frustration lower.

I like playing different nations and grinding up the trees, at times, because of having done it for several nations, I can apply the lessons and knowledge of higher tier to lower tier, and it usually ends up with high points on the leaderboard. This helps in several ways: 1. Silver Lion gains may not have the potential size of higher tiers, but I personally find I can make fair chunks of change every match. 2. Learning a different nation and tech tree can help break up the monotony of the game, as well as showing you the weaknesses of tanks that might seem scary or intimidating. 3. Building repetition thru multiple progressions helps refine and drive home the tactics that make life easier in high tier, whether that be how you approach corners, or just learning to listen for engines. I realize this isn't the method everyone will want to use, or would use, but it does help with the grind becoming more work than fun. I like completionism as much as the next, but a break can be nice.

Premium setups are really important. I recently rediscovered and old alternate account of mine after 10 years. I started fresh and bought the entire top tier premiums for the soviet tech tree. It literally took me arround 10 days of playing with a premium only linup to get to tier 8 in tanks. Granted i am playing the game for 12 years but still its so much more faster than back in the day when i grinded my original account.

Had very good success grinding high tier vehicles out quickly in ground assault. Yes ground assault, you heard right. Burned through 6mil credits in no time, just for purchasing new vehicles in 2 weeks.

I had a very minor technique that I used, it is when I am trying to research a low tier plane with a TT top tier vehicle - I always try to spade the vehicle, where the bonus RP of each rank of mods researched gets converted fully, despite researching penalties going for the TT vehicles, and I would do it when I do not like the premium of the nation and wanted to stick to top tier, such as Britain

Another big minmax tip: Learn to play assault air and air sim. Grab a big +300% booster from assault and play sim. Easy 50k RP as a dumb player just bombing bases, up to 200k+ if you are actually good at it. Only really need to do once a day. With just Sim i could easily grind from the F3D-1 to the A10 Late with just 2-3 games a day (Assault Air, Assault Ground for boosters, then sim) If you need the SL then I recommend hitting up Heli EC with a premium heli for easy 400k+ SL. Considering that most times when min-maxing RP you will lack SL, it would be a good idea to start stockpiling SL for the next sale. Also from my experience Premiums vehicles are best grinders until rank 4-5 (maybe 6 for really good premiums), past that premium time > premium vehicles, especially for rank 7. (If anyone has grinded that far without a premium vehicle, crazy tho).

I just wish Gaijin wouldn't charge us for using convertible RP that we've already earned from playing. How absurd is that

my issue with turning auto repair off is that it takes so long to repair them, Gaijin really needs to rework the free repair system.

I got from the panther D to the Marder a 3 in like 3 days by using the Turm 3 and just trying to have fun. If u treat it like a job then you will hate it so much

I've been unlocking every vehicle in the German tech tree and fully upgrading them all as I go one at a time. The bonus points you get from doing that I huge, I've already fully done tier 1 and am almost done with tier 2. Plus the perk of learning to use every one of those vehicles is great.

With respect to video requests: I, for one, would find it beneficial to learn the most common strategies for positioning, and levels of being aggressive; for instance in a heavy tank, is it common to run in and brawl, or better to get close and hide to snipe? Also, in a random game, what is the most common strategy for choosing which type of tank to start with; for example, always start with the highest BR, or based the choice on heavy tank vs medium, vs light tanks, etc? I often question myself on whether I should start with the medium tank with the highest rated crew or the heavy tank with the lesser crew, but more HP to withstand my over aggressive game play. Yeah, I'm the guy in the heavy lumbering along, headlong, into a cap circle meeting three or four hostile forces. It isn't pretty.

My only problem is that I don't have much Silver lion because I grind air and ground vehicles at the same time (so Chi-To Late needs to wait). But I'll try to do this like you said from now on. Oh, and by the way, Assault Air/Ground Arcade also helps especially if you win

I have my British Phantom in a perfect position to quickly unlock any aircraft I want I have researched all modifications except for 1 per tier which are almost all done. It will add probably about 100k instantly to any plane playing minimal games. I think I will use it for the Eurofighter when it comes.

Remember when auto repair is on, it pays the full SL cost _immediately_ after you die in that vehicle, (meaning mid match.) So even if you plan to continue playing that lineup, the amount of SL you save over time piles up. Another benefit to turning off auto repair is that, in the case you don't want to continue playing that lineup, you aren't spending money to repair until you choose to play it again. For example I play 5.3, 6.7, and 8.0 America a lot, even though most or all of my vehicles there are spaded, whereas I don't use their 7.0 - 7.7 lineup as much, even though most of my vehicles there are not spaded. Part of that is due to my preferred play style, but it's mostly because that 7.0 - 7.7 lineup is expensive as all hell to repair. So every now and then, I'll play that expensive lineup, and then switch over to the other lineups or switch to other nations while I wait for it to repair. An important thing to note is that if you do this and decide to play other nations in the meantime, make sure to leave that lineup you're repairing as the active one so that it gets the bonuses from the crew slots, (also make sure that you level up your crew's repair rank so that it can repair the vehicles in question efficiently.)

Cool little trick i found a while back if you finish research on a vehicle and have left over rp that the game tells you to invest right now there is no penalty for rank so you can research rank 1 with a rank v and not get the rp penalty. only applies for the rp you have to invest right away any rp earned in later matches will have the penalty as normal. This is great if you play air sim where you can earn tens of thousands in 1 game.

It’s better to unlock all the tech tree vehicles in that BR before moving to the next BR. Good for experience and if you only have to Callum’s of vehicles to go to top tier quick you gonna regret having to unlock those other columns

Stock TT's are an issue, I agree. Got so many completely stock vehicles in my Tech Trees, like 90% maybe.

The most obvious tip is to do the arcade assault game mode once a day to get the bonus rewards for things like 300% research bonus

Have you tried playing the tempest with the 2 37mms? Once you learn how to aim the guns it’s quite good.

Biggest thing gaijin hates is saving SL it takes sometime up to 20-30 days to repair a vehicle and lowest I’ve gotten is 9 days it’s fucking absurd

im personally playing britain right now, purely to get the Sherman firefly,The churchill MK7 and the Centurion, and FV4500. and im contantly running low on silver lion’s by the contant purchase of vehicles … so what i do isnplay germany (my original nation) why? well in 5.7/5.3, german player’s are braindead, so i farm my silver lion’s by destroying them. it’s easy!

I realy loved the av8 to grind with played out the us tree in a mont or 2 and at ease but i find grinding out ground is a lot harder couse i get less rp from it but still have good kills only caps seem to bring me most rp in ground rb

Grinding war thunder is so hard this video is so in depth but I retained non of the information. I earn 500 rp a game if I win and 40 rp if I lose and it seems that every single bullet I fire either doesn’t penetrate or just ricochets off. I’ve been playing for like 2 and a half years and every single hour as went into tank for Germany and I have one tank that’s like 5.0 and the rest are like 3.7 br or lower

USA,Germany, Russia and half of Britain I have completed. Had to take a long break for 6 or 7 months because I wasn't having fun anymore. I finally came back and man it is ruff, I feel like a complete noob with a f16 or a 2a6 lol.. I worked my butt off to get to the top, and every nation I get completely run over. Unless it's in the russian t80u. I do well in that tank only because the weakspots are tiny lol.

How can I grind tanks if everyone in tier 2 are all so good at the game

so by spading a plane at T2 i can give exp to a T5 plane by completing a row of upgrade ? might be a dum question

I'm a here because I just unlocked the t80u and I have been playing for a hour and haven't gotten the Sabo shells yet I only have 3 kills and thy were 3 ww2 pumas trolling I have 15 death so far and like 2 kill assist everyone has Era and I literally can't kill anything in top tier how do I grind this out I got only 4k in the first Sabo shells and they are 12k to unlock

my tips as a f2p, only bring 1 tank every battle especially if the vehicle that you use have expensive repair cost. either you win big or none at all.

You should add a picture of the vehicles or maybe even the tech tree while talking about stuff like this. Throwing out vehicle names and expecting people to know which vehicle is from which nation and where it is in the tech tree is meaningless. Even people who played for a long time will not have memorized every vehicle, so throwing out names means nothing.

10% bonus is useless if the plane that has it suuuucks really bad or you just suck with it... hence playing other plane which doesn't have the bonus is better because no 10% bonus on like 7000 rp is better then bonus 10% on 2 or 3000 RP per game Just sayin'
