In which the Gentleman Gamer explains his strategies for handling problems between players at the table.
And yes, in the thumbnail for this video, I am indicating the measurement of a fish / a loaf of bread / my penis / about to break into a rave with a good old fashioned big fish little fish cardboard box routine.

"You're calling all the female characters in the game whores, trying to fuck everyhing that moves... this is a game of My Little Pony" First time I've legitimately choked on my cup of tea while watching a RU-vid video.

'The problem player is either Lasombra or Tremere' 😂 Or both. This is too real.

The Lasombra flouncing out, with his trench coat and katana, off to manipulate shadows with a bottle of lotion DAMN Sir! Critical damage, 0 hit points remaining. That Guys all around the world just felt a sudden chill. Reminder never to anger the Gentleman Gamer 😅

Oh, boy. My last game before a 15+ year break from the hobby... Honestly, I'd had a couple bad games in a row, and was in a bad place in life, which didn't help. But that last game. Two players constantly sniping at each other over...everything. Three players who were always late, brought their dinner & proceeded to eat it without bringing anything for the group, and were then disruptive. When one of them brought a Nerf gun and started shooting foam darts around instead of paying attention to the game, I was done. We were all adults, in our late 20s or early 30s. There was no excuse for that sort of thing. I just closed my books, booted everyone from my apartment, and didn't even try to assemble a new game. It took my wife really encouraging me, because she knew it was something that I'd loved, for me to get back on the horse. And that was tough. I'm still pretty gunshy all these years later.

Brother you have filled me with joy, occasionally I check up on old RU-vid channels I use to watch as a kid for a bit of nostalgia and they aren't doing to well. But you are smashing it out I found your channel as some more info on Vtmb and that was 11 years ago like I said man doing well and you've added some joy to my day seeing your still active if not a little more bald

You’re not a coward. You’re a maturity. A rarity these nights. Also the “trench coat, katana, some shadows and a lotion bottle” was such an Incelery take like omg lol

Oh this is a great concept. In my early days and nights of running games Ive seen a lot. As ridiculous as this sounds, one such incident came to physical conflict 😔. But this person who instigated had a great deal of personal issues as we quickly realized. Needless to say, that person was never again extended an invite.

This was a great video! I would love to see more stuff like this in the future if possible. There's a whole treasure trove of video subjects I'd love to hear your more developed thoughts on, since it's been over 10 years when many of them were last touched on. The audience is likely whole new generation at this point as well.

Your tip at 20:40 is clever. Players who non-consensually Blood Bond other players don't care *that* much about 'doing a task' or 'solving a problem'. They want to control the game, and they're using the task as an excuse. Offering an alternative way to solve the problem calls their bluff. They can accept the alternative or lose face. If they continue trying to harass or Blood Bond the other players after that, you'll have more than enough reason to kick them from the game!

One of my best pvp moments in VtM was killin the Lasombra in our coterie who was decked out for combat and I made a character with 0 combat skills to prove a point. It's real easy to hide an explosive in someone's car when they heavily Dominate the shit out of their underlings, and then make the mistake of relying on the help and I to load your ride. "I know we normally drive in the same car but...gosh there's just so much equipment to move, think you should go in one car and i'll be over here, fading away in your rearview as we get a safe distance from the city before things...pop off..." The person who played the Lasombra had almost every toxic gamer trait I could think of rolled into one person, it was wild, but they were the brother of the GM so it seemed to slide up until I got invited to play. I tried really hard to make them realize it wasn't a single player game and using Celerity 3 so we can sit here for 20 minutes while you kill everything isn't fun. It got to the point where if there was a combat with him, the rest of the group would literally just move on while he fought whatever. It was cool for this player to do pvp shit but when it was done to them they felt it was unfair and ended up quitting. and then we ended up having 4 really nice campaigns without him.

In my experience, it is not the lasombra. It is the assamite or ventrue.

It depends on their level of self awareness. We all know that Nosferatu or Gangrel tho, and although they may be quiet, they can do amazing things once their confidence has been built up.

@@GamesbyMarcWolff Sometimes political differences are quite irreconcilable. But sometimes you'll find that we have a lot on common as human beings and that "political" differences are quite manufactured -- often deliberately, to keep us divided. I say that as someone who's probably the most political person you'd ever meet.

21:01 I don't think in any game taking control of anther play fro more than a 3-turn period of time is okay, they are there to make decision (well if they okay with it its a dimeren story) Personally If play is being controlled and fights it with reason and character emotion, i let them have role even if its out of the rules, to get ther agency back or my favorite a Devils-Bargain XD

I played almost Assamite\Banu Haqim back in my early nights,and still managed to not be a edgelord about it. Most problem players just have a dominance issue,and that's why I struggle to sympathize. No one is owed a rulership. Like,maybe it's a democracy dude. Maybe there shouldn't be rulerships,not even in hobby groups.

Indeed, often a problem player is just that. A problem that should be solved by being removed from the game. Not a misundestood or misunderstanding person, but someone who doesn't want understanding. Just a immature, narcistic killjoy. Often they really have personality disorders like aforementioned narcissim. Yes, PD hinder your social life, and RPG is social hobby. And I played with and GMed people with different psychological issues. Most of such issues don't make you an asocial person and let you learn social skills. RPG are very terapeutic for them. But if the problem player is just being a d*ck, personality disorder or not, they won't learn and improve. Just remove them. E.g. my last gaming group included a person diagnosed with maniacal-depressive disorder and someone I'm now sure has narcissism or at least severe immaturity. The first was a good player in every way and we fought his depression together. The second one was removed mid-campaign after several futile attempts by everyone to educate him how to behave in and out of the game. Often GM's duty is to take the hit and remove the problem player, since other players don't want to start the fire. And thus the problem player keeps being problematic and other players just leave disappointed.

Yeah, there's just no helping histrionics. A lot of them also have arrested development as well and act (and dress) more like middle or high schoolers than adults.
@MingDK
@MingDK 10 месяцев назад
@@GamesbyMarcWolff Yup. Lots of them in RPG. Especially since the mainstream culture cultivates such immaturity. Unfortunately, White Wolf didn't make enough research of PDs for Malks. It's quite interesting to portray them and any other disordered character in more nuanced way instead of fishmalks and lunatics.
