Nicknamed "The Red Devil", this SD1 arrived at RPi with the wrong engine under the bonnet - all its cylinders were lined up in a row and two of them were missing completely . Thankfully we had the cure, a V8 was soon housed in the engine bay and at last all was well.

I converted many 2.6 straight 6 autos SD1 over to V8. I would also convert over to manual gearbox. The rear axel ratio was 3.9 on an automatic and once pair up with a manual gearbox, acceleration was much improved. The fiddly job was the pedal box conversion to include the clutch! Great engine the Buick!

As usual, a great job by the RPI team. I love these guys. Having built an engine with nearly every part coming from RPI. I would be remiss if I didn't say that not only did the parts come from them, A huge amount of advice was provided by Ian as well. My Range Rover classic now has 5k miles. runs absolutely perfect, with zero leaks, and runs better than it did new, with the upgrades I bought at RPI. When it comes to the Rover V8 at least for me in the USA, they are the ones to ask, the top of the line. Now I have to head over to their web site and get some much needed parts for a rebuild of 4.2 Rover V8 #2.

Another great car and another great video, cheers! I am now curious though as to what injection setup I have in my 1989 RRC, flapper or hotwire? I didn't know there were different types, I still have so much to learn!

Simple. Email us a pic to info@v8engines.com and we will let you know what type of EFI you have.

Lovely looking car and a very tidy conversion. If you don't mind me asking, how did you get around the difference between EFI and carb fuel tanks? I see the external pump is in a non-standard position with hoses running above the tank, is the external pump being fed by the in tank pump?

We modified the tank to have a bottom take off. You can see this at approx. 5:01 in the video. This take off then fed the pre filter, pump etc

Did the 26 end up in the sea?

What power and torque is expected with that setup ....
@RPIEngineering
@RPIEngineering 2 года назад
probable somewhere around 200 lb/ft and 190 to 200 bhp. Top bhp was not aimed for so as to keep a smooth idle etc.

Great video, but how much did that engine cost?
@RPIEngineering
@RPIEngineering 2 года назад
Depending on more specific options prices of course vary however a 3.5 EFi Stage 3 setup with SD1 ancillaries would normally be around £11,000 inc UK VAT
