“If you don’t know something surround yourself with people that do!” The guys and girls at iWire are incredibly knowledgeable so impressed; by the time your done your will have a new car!!
As always, thanks so much for posting these videos. All of your vids are great, but it's rare to find some as straight-up useful as these. Cheers dude!
Nice job Bucky! If you leave the p/s, the alt, and the a/c connected and remove the belts and lay the p/s to the pass side and the alt and a/c comp to the driver side. I was shown this 20 years ago by a Subaru Senior Master and have just found it easier when pulling the engine to do a swap or for repairs. You can drain the pump & res off the engine, then change to the wrx pump & res too.
Not sure what Bucky did to deserve this, but someone in the YT world seems to be doing one hell of a job making sure as little people as possible see his videos. Keep it up Bucky, we're watching even if they're watching you too.
So lucky didn't fill your sneakers with coolant Bucky when removing the last box when you were tipping it to try and remove it and clear the lip... I've done it before myself and with years of experience 😆
i drive a dsm but love watching the builds. alot can be applied to any car your building..built not bought. p.s. the fact that i skate probably makes me biased
So back in ‘90 friends and I stayed with a friends uncle on el Camino royal? Hit up a badass skate shop, met cool peeps and thought we were at Buckys house on his mini ramp. This was around the Ray Barbie Powell peralta time. Got run the fuck off the China Banks, Turns out we were at Danny Ways house. For real. And the empty fountain at Golden Gate Park from the H-Street video was our last spot before we went home to Illinois. Goddamn the 90’s were Cool! Love ya buck.
It seems like no one uses a torque wrench anymore. Anyway when doing the final tightening with rubber suspension bushings make sure the control arm/ lateral links are at ride height. Otherwise the bushing will tear from too much twist during full compression.
Unfortunately showing all the torque wrenching/info would have added a few minutes to the edit. We did it though where it’s called for. My suspension is getting properly done as we mentioned but yeah you are correct.
You don't have to stick with the older alternator. I have a newer style in my 95. (Bought it for my 2002 B4) Just needed to buy the connector to adapt it.
So, while looking at my swap, and the shims for the control arms. My logic says that if you put the washers on the Rear of the arm instead of front and back, it should get you a little bit better caster angle. Because you are essentially pushing the a arms towards the front of the car
I'm glad to see the use of washers on the control arms -- I was well into the rabbit hole of researching which (available) control arms would fit. Would you clarify the reason for the WRX throttle cable? Simply longer? Why the new pivot ball with the new clutch fork? I get the old fork wearing out, but the pivot? Thanks for doing this. You rock. 😎
Im still just so jealous that you have not one but two cherry RS's in 2020 (not too mention now they're swapped). I couldn't find one decent one 15 years ago ffs!
Another great build video! If you had to do it all again and money wasn’t a primary concern, would you do a JDM motor swap in the GC or a USDM STI motor swap?
Bucky if you are ever looking for another set of hands bro I live on the East Coast and have many years of experience and would LOVE working with you on projects as I desperately need a change in my life soon.. Haven't been able to catch a break in along time.
