So impressed with these sounds 😮...I got one back in 09' along with an AX-1 Midi keytar. But it's been in one of my storage totes crammed with old stuff... Time to dig it back up!
Was eyeing on an x5d synth back in 2002 but sadly it was discontinued so I ended up getting a roland juno d, honestly I was disappointed, was lucky to get a used x5dr and it was nothing compared to the juno d, the sounds, editing capabilities and prog and combi memory, it's a very powerful module, I still have it now =)
It's a very good module. I think the release of the X5DR was in the year 1995 (if my memory doesn't fails). The '98 Korg N5 and N5EX had the same synthesis technology of the X5 series
Are these patches available somewhere? Thank you for this video! I was “just” considering selling my X5DR when I came across you channel. Suggestions for patch sites!?
That would be because the 05/X5 are not even remotely intended to be looked at as "GM" synths... the GM bank was just tacked on. Both are stripped down entry-level versions of the O1W, along with the X3 and X5 keyboard versions....
Wow, $200 seems like a lot! I don't know how rare these are over in the US but here in Germany you can usually find em for less than 150€ which is about $150, without any bargaining. I think I got mine for 80€
Picked up a 05r/w for 80 quid this week. All but 9 of these patches were transfered to it's memory and given me a good start to my own programing. Paired with a vst editor it's actually becoming a very useful part of my setup
@@rejectedsynths Certainly not complaining. Did my homework and found these patches before I bought it so I knew it could produce usable sounds. Starting to middle through programing it. Very thankful for the PC based editors. Makes it much more visual
@@rejectedsynths Picked mine up for £99, mint condition with the plastic still on the screen. Currently one on a UK synth page for £150, so $200 does sound on the high side. Great synth though even at that price, especially if you have limited space. Thanks for a thorough review, and for bringing it to the attention of my wallet !
Very nice sounds! I had Korg X3 and X3R, M1Rex, M3R etc. The X5DR fits to modern electronic styles, trance etc! I wonder where the exact differences are between 05RW, 03RW, X3, X5DR from Korg!
05RW is the older brother of X5DR. It has the same box but half polyphony and less waveforms. The 03Rw is in the range of the 01, less stuff but professional.
@@RaptureMusicOfficial It's a bit more complicated than that.. At the top of the Mountain was the O1W... Then Korg went totally nuts, releasing multiple stripped down "Entry-Level" versions of the AI2 Engine, all based on the O1W, but missing some features of the full engine, (most often mentioned is the "Wave Shaping" feature).... There are maybe a half-dozen or so synths that are all inter-related somehow to the O1W in various ways, including the 05R/W and X5DR. Both can take near 1-1 conversions of almost every factory 01W patch, as they have the full O1W PCM sample set from what I was able to see when I compared an O1 to an X5. There are also some similarities to the X3 line. It's all rather confusing, but that was Korg back in the day.
Hey, and thanks for making this interesting video :) Is it okay if i ask for abit of assistance, i just recived a X5DR model today and everything so far seems seems to work fine. but i can only check 1 bank of sounds Acording to the i need to press prog and then bank buttom to wich to the G bank insted og A bank, and it seems to change somehow so it says g and but then i have no sound on any instruments if i click up and down Do i need to confirm the selection the bank g somehow when i switch or what am i missing here? would like to hear all the GM sounds as well. Regarding this patching thingy you show here. What is needed to patch the X5DR like you did any special cables or how does it work. And does it then remove / replace the original sounds in the modul if you do so, or so one need to back up those before doing this and is it ireversable ? hope you can find time to respont and again thanks for your video, great sound
If you have all empty names in the G bank that is is kind of strange, because from what I remember, those should be the hard coded midi presets. I just tired it out on my unit and program and then bank toggles between A and G bank and you can toggle between the instruments in both banks right away. Maybe try a factory reset, that is (according to a quick google search) done by powering the unit on while holding both page + and - buttons. This should load all the factory banks (but will overwrite any custom sound you might have on the unit!) New patches (Like JayB's) are loaded onto the X5DR via Sysex files, those are special midi files that contain all the patch data and will indeed overwrite all sound in bank A, you can also backup the sound the same way, sending sysex from the unit to a program that can handle sysex files. This might sound comlicated, but there are easy to use programs, even for mobiles to handle that part for you. I've actually done a video on one of them too: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HnJ0ylnUFHI.html
@@rejectedsynths hey are not empty there are plenty of names but, when i pick PROG, i then can swithc between the two bangs A and G pressing the bang button, But i cant play A or B untill i close the PROG button again by pressing Comb button. and if i do that it just pops back to bank A again and i can play but i cant get to Bank G, or atleast i cant by doing what the manual says
@@rejectedsynths yes i have. and when i do, it shifts between the A and G bank, but its like i need to CONFIRM after doing so, but the manual says nothing about how to it just says in the BANK mode where i can switch inbetween em and nothing else, and i cant play while its in bank switching mode if you are on messenger or somthing i an show you or i can try make a short video and up it on youtube so you can see
