Andrew, what’s the ideal backstay set up then? I have a hydraulic one that is manually operated.. fast to let off but takes some work to get back on. Is a purchase system better?
Its the interaction between the jib and the mainsail that alters the speed, more power normally alters the spill at the top of the mainsail resulting in backwinding or more rudder angle which increaseshull drag. Hope that helps.
