I kinda agree, I think maturity is the wrong word. I would say the younger generation is less independent, not less mature. The two are easily confused.

Conner Wolf Agreed! We are also more likely to get jobs but stay inside the house, talk about money saving. Now we can buy nice things instead of rent, or pay of outrageous college loans. I think the youth generation is more conservative in that sense, taking the safe and cautious route to success in life. Which means giving away some independence but not really losing any maturity, maybe even gaining it.

I think kids are not maturing younger and younger. There were very few people in my high school graduating class that I'd consider mature, myself included. There are also not alot of people I'd consider mature in my _college classes_, which is absolutely ridiculous. Maturity is the ability to respond to the environment in an appropriate manner. Most young adults don't know about taxes, payments, how bank accounts and cards work, the value of a dollar, politics, cars, cooking for themselves, when to raise a family, choosing a career, how to behave in public, how to get along with others, how to deal with an emergency, or how to live on their own. Maturity is also learned rather than instinctive. So in all honesty, although many young adults today don't know alot about being mature, it's not really their fault. It's the parent's job to teach their kids about how the real world works and how to deal/interact with it and real world problems. The fact that the younger generation is more dependent inherently entails that they won't get enough experience with the hard world out there, and thus cannot learn the maturity necessary to deal with it entirely until much later in life. Now, that is *not* to say that this is a *bad* thing, because it is simply a lifestyle and no matter what maturity will be gained because it's only a matter of time, so who is somebody to tell someone else how they should live their life? Sorry for the long comment, but I felt it was necessary to explain completely when I commented to avoid confusion. So I hope some people found it useful in one way or another :)
