Planes measure wind via pitot tubes embedded in the fuselage, I believe. The tubes use the displacement of liquid, in a u-tube, caused by air flows to determine pressure differences. From those you can calculate wind-speeds.

What I learnt from this podcast: Gavin is so rich he can buy a new house WITHOUT selling his old one, I would like to point out that I DON'T begrudge Gavin the money he's accumulated through his cinematography work but I do get annoy when people act like Gavin isn't rich when he clearly is.

Yeah some of those workplace safety ads here (Canada) got banned for being too gruesome. There was one where a building exploded, so a construction worker fell off of the building and you see the body falling down and hit the ground.

The reason behind the smoking on planes question is interesting. they used to cycle the air on planes from the outside, idk the exact details but obv you have to get it up to cabin pressure which took power from the engines, so the airlines were early adopters of banning smoking to make them more fuel efficient. now everyone just gets sick from the duty used air...

A 40 mph wind gust advisory is an indicator of the lowest level of structural damage which is from a secondary source like tree limbs. It's an advisory to tell you basically to not park your car under a tree. Not necessarily for your own safety per say.

I love Southwest! I fly them all the time. It's a low cost airline that gets you from A to B. Yeah, $25 for early check in on a flight that is $300 cheaper than any other airline.

Back in the 90's Singapore airlines had a system that let you play the full super mario world, sonic games, and even megaman games. It was awesome. Also I always get the only broken chair :(

From what I've heard, the two or three companies in Canada that own all the media in Canada are the ones that block content coming from other countries. They claim it's because they want to encourage more Canadian-based content and preserve Canadian culture and jobs. But in reality, it's just because they want to make money off it. Like if it's a TV channel, they obviously want someone to subscribe to that channel through their cable provider. Or if it's American content that could compete with Canadian content, like MTV and Much Music, they'll just block the American content so they can maintain their monopoly. For example, we just recently had to fight to be able to watch Superbowl commercials. When any American network, like CBS, NBC, etc, is rebroadcast in a Canadian, the ads are replaced with Canadian ads. Which in nearly all cases makes sense because it is annoying when you see an ad for something in the US that we don't get here. But the argument was made that the Superbowl ads were as much a part of the Superbowl and as much of a reason people tune in as the actual game or the halftime performance is. So starting soon, they won't be clocking those Superbowl commercials anymore. But I think it doesn't start until 2018 or something.

Phantom Menace definitely had more hype than Force Awakens does. People have been much more cautious about Force Awakens since we already got screwed by Phantom Menace.

Well I have only just found out that there are more than one (well two in my case) types of apples, I always thought it was just Red and Green apples and they just came in different sizes etc.

For those who don't know, the main reason why Hawaii has such strict laws is because when the first ships came over, they brought rats. Hawaii has no natural predators and as a result, the rat population exploded. Then some nut decided to bring over the mongoose, thinking they'll eat the rats. The mongooses didn't eat the rats, they ate the birds, and as a result, like thirty species of Hawaiian birds went into extinction practically overnight. So now Hawaii is super strict about everything you bring over. If you bring your pet and don't have the proper papers to prove they're disease/tick free, they'll be put into quarantine for a month.

burnie was on an airbus a340-600. that is the plane that has to downstairs bathroom. also presumably on a flight by lufthansa. my 30 seconds of googling made it seem like they are the only airline to fly those planes.

The only thing that I ever get sad at in movies, THE ONLY THING, is when adult (or even worse, elderly) men cry or something touching happens to them.
