RTI No.1 Enfield (C-Grade) DOES IT SHOOT? Range Test ⚠️ Royal Tiger Imports SMLE Lee-Enfield Review

KEYHOLE WARNING! I knew not to expect much when I ordered this C-Grade No.1 Mk.III Lee-Enfield from Royal Tiger Imports. I didn't think this Milsurp SMLE would be this bad, though! Upon initial inspection, I noticed the Bolt Head looked deformed. On the range, I discovered the bolt wouldn't close on a .303 round. In this deep-dive review, we cover inspection, cleaning, troubleshooting, and firing of this Military Surplus Enfield. Perhaps the range results will determine if what RTI is asking is justified.
Thanks for Watching!

A true British firearm for the people. One that doesn't shoot.

I got two of these. One was an Iraqi marked 1936 BSA. The other was a 1924 Lithgow. Both have good bores but need a lot of stock work. I posted both to my RU-vid channel. I am working on a part two where I'll replace the stocks. Even found some QLD Maple wood for the Lithgow. C grades are a gamble for sure but make for good projects. Great cleaning tips in this video too!

When buying most of these mil surps from RTI, I approach it as if these were picked up off the battlefield a couple months after the fighting. Some of them were under a tree and protected a bit, but the majority lay on the bottom of a muddy trench- and look the part . Caveat emptor ......

I got so incredibly lucky when I tried this same deal. The wood was dry, filthy, and had bugs in it but it cleaned up nicely. Plenty of rifling still and it shoots great. Thanks for the intel. I had never considered using a drill to scrub bores before.

Q. Did you check the firing pin length? At 7.29 it is clear the middle bolt face has a protruding pin. If the pin was too long, sitting too far forward in the bolt tube, it could account for your issue trying to screw down the bolt head, and lack of ability to close on a cartridge in chamber. It is possible to incorrectly seat the pin too far in our out when inserting a pin and locking into the cocking piece. Make sure it is actually an SMLE pin, rather than from a Mk4. Yes, they are supposedly interchangeable, but the No.III is a 100-year old rifle.

I picked up an B grade early last year. 1918 mkIII* The stock and wood were in very good shape. No parts missing. Metal was missing most of its finish but no rust. The barrel had a massive bulge in it. It was visible in the barrel even before cleaning. It was also visible on the outside of the barrel. Not a huge issue as I was planning to rechamber it as is. Royal Tiger really does seem to be a crap shoot with what you get.

If you’re continuing to shoot with a non matching bolt I might recommend you check how much the locking lugs actually lock up. These were hand fitted rifles unlike modern machining methods. Could result in more wear on your receiver or bolt or catastrophic failure. Also I find most of my enfields stabilize s+b 180 grain pretty well. Haven’t had a lot of luck with 174 grain ppu personally. Hope this helps

Back bore that muzzle, should help. Of course im not seeing the bore and chamber. $200+ a very cheap mazazine+ transfer fees and shippi ng. Maybe but in a couple of years you might wish you bought a couple. I bought a number of SKS rifles, very nasty, for about $120 each. I cleaned the worst of the bunch and it shoots great!

At some point, buying guns from RTI and filming it is just an exercise in watching a crash test dummy hit the wall. The slow-mo is gory and interesting, but in the end, we all know LT. Dan is going to eat it every time. 😂

So, I wonder if these results are because PPU uses Boattail projectiles in their ammo. I had a 1916 Spanish Mauser Carbine my friend insisted was shot out. I had some FN produced 7MM Mauser I shot with flat bases, and they stabilized just fine. I pulled a bullet and compared it to my friends hand loads and the factory ammo used a flat base while my friends was a boat tail bullet. The FN had a base diameter of .287 while the boat tail bullets had .283 as the waist diameter.
@donwyoming1936
@donwyoming1936 8 месяцев назад
Flat base projectiles do tend to stabilize better in worn bores. If he reloads, I'd suggest trying hollow base projectiles from surplus 7.62X54R light ball ammo. That skirt will expand to fit the bore.

I'd give the RTI C grade SMLE's a miss going by seeing your experience. However as the saying goes..."Experiences may vary". 😂 I've got a few SMLE's of my own. A 1922 Lithgow & a 1916 Enfield. The Lithgow is a superb shooter that gets ridiculously tight groups at club shoots. Might soon have another couple that are WW2 era manufactured units (a 1942 Lithgow & a 1941 Maltby, which is a No.4 Mk.1). Cheers

I bought one from them. Ended up returning it. I said i wanted a refund but they had a replacment rifle set aside. They ended up giving me the refund but months later i was at my lgs and they said they had a rifle for me. It was the replacment rifle! It actually had a good bore on it. But sadly these are all mismatched and beat up. I recently found a pristine 1916 all matching from lodgewood. Still in the cosmo for 550$ excellent bore

As to American Firearms in Ethiopia: At the end of World War Two many Unserviceable/ Damaged Rifles were gifted to the Ethiopian Government. It was cheaper to do so than bring them home for refurbishment. The Ethiopian Government was the friendliest and most stable .Captured Enemy Weapons were depoted there as well. All Battlefield Pickups. Later, in 1954 thru 1962 the CIA flew in thousands of “Aid to Developing Nations “ Arms and Ammunition. Much of those were M-1/ M-2 Carbines. We also gifted them T-6 Training Aircraft ( rebuilt as Fighter/ Bombers.) Ethiopia was at War with Somalia then

I had a B Grade No.4 Mark one I got from RTI it had two bullets jammed in the barrel. I sent it back a month later I got a replacement No.4 Mark1. I went to chamber a round it would not chamber. I got a barrel hone and honed out the chamber and part of the barrel and it would take a bullet. So after that happened I no longer buy anything from RTI.

Could be the fact they are boat tail bullets as that is what is marked on your box along with your bore condition. My RTI no4 mk1* rifle had a nice bore with 2 grove rifling but keyholed with boat tail ppu. Once I started loading flat base bullets it wasn't keyholing.

It really is indicative of the state of milsurp right now. 20 years ago that same 200 could get you a much nicer enfield, and something like this would never be imported because they simply weren't worth it and are likely why these rifles have sat there until now.
@andrewgee241
@andrewgee241 8 месяцев назад
I think it is indicative of the state of buyers but not what inventory is out there. People have gotten so used to pushing a button on their computer and buying something that they settle for RTI garbage. Go to a gun shop, gun show or bulletin board at a range and you'll find people selling excellent condition surplus rifles for not much more than what RTI sells this junk for. All the nice rifles that were imported in the past are still out there but you have to buy it individually and not from an importer.

There are gems that can be found in them c grades. One of the Iraqi enfields I have would be considered a C Grade due to the bore being a literal sewer pipe but what saves it is the personalization and the history behind the rifle. Would I shoot it? No but I'll still hold on it as part of the collection.

At 200 dollars and having to replace the bolt and barrel costing another 200 bucks all your getting is a rusted reciever and badly damaged stock. It not worth you would be better off getting a b grade that at least is a functional rifle but rough. But with a good cleaning and some small parts you would have a gun that works and is a great peice of history. C graded ar just parts guns and most of the major parts are in terrible shape. They should only be 50 bucks. I thank you for your review. I was considering going for one of these but will save up for a b grade or local store find.
