This tutorial shows you how to use Virtual Radar with rtl-sdr dump1090. it shows you aircraft being tracked along with their details and reports of aircraft that have flown around your location.
Not sure if you have Improved your Antenna Setup by now.. (Since Posting).. But if not.. I recomend building a Collinear Antenna for 1090 MHz (Home Brew Using RG-6) I've made one with 16 Segments.. I say it works very well.. (If you do the math correctly and know the Velocity Factor for the RG-6 you are using) you should be able to cut the segments spot on perfect.. (You can use The RG-6) all the way to the RTL-SDR.. Don't bother with RG-58 (50 ohm) .. Thank's for posting the details regarding Virtual Radar (Will look that up) if the software is at the same link.
I have 30 planes in my Dump1090 windows and only 2 planes stacked on top of each other on the map. Not moving. It says I'm tracking 35 aircraft and I have them listed with plenty of data. What am I doing wrong with the map?
