A in depth DIY install video of the Taco Marine Rub Rail LED Navigation lights. Follow along or fast forward to the sections you need. These lights are insanely bright and a great addition to any boat.
Port and starboard nav lights are supposed to be visible from the front and side of the boat by other boaters. Do these lights do that? Seems like only visible from the side.
Yes they are. The lights meet right at the front as they are supposed to. Look at the 40 min mark of the video you can see both lights as I cross the very front of the boat. The kit comes with a diagram showing the correct angle to mount.
I would think you would just leave the rub rail as is and drill the 5/8 hole through it all. Reason being is that cover plate is recessed on the back with a tee slot to capture the led fixture. By removing a section of the rub rail wouldn't you be allowing the led to sit too deep in the rail and and not engage the cover plate correctly?
No sir the back of the face plate has notches in it with out cutting a section of rail it will not sit flush. Look at the 7:15 mark I talk about them. Per Taco marine instruction you need to cut a section of the Rail out so the housing sits flush. I tried to do just the hole first in that board I pre fit the lights in but just a hole will not work for the housing. Thanks for the question.
