I go through a lot of buckets, and I like to use the 3.5 gallon buckets so I have to keep buying them because they need to be cleaned out while the thinset is still fresh otherwise there is a very good chance that they will be ruined if the thinset is allowed to harden and knocked out the next day. At the end of the day it is one of those chores that I hate to do when I am tiered, clean out the bucket. So I bought this rubber bucket made by Rubi so I can leave the thinset in the bucket and just knock it out the next day without fear of putting a hole in it. Might seem like a small thing, but you don't have to worry about cleaning the bucket before you go home, just leave it and do it in the morning. it is also easier to dispose of something that is solid.

That’s a common bucket in stables & pastures.Find ‘em at “Feed & Seed”, “Farm & Ranch” supply stores etc. May be cheaper, worth checking out. Thanks for the vids. You’ve helped me finalize a decision on my next tile cutter.

Good god all the people saying to wash the bucket out. guess what ? Sometimes in the middle of winter people turn off the hose outsideand they sure as hell dont want you washing a freakin bucket of thinset out in their kitchen sink.

Sal, cool trick I learned from a new helper once: Cut an old sponge into quarters and put it in the water bucket you clean your drill in! keeps her clean all day!

If you lay the bucket on its side and push down on it and roll it, it should flex and break out most of that thinset. Especially with a rubber bucket. Also when hitting a bucket use the side of the hammer. Less chance of breaking a plastic bucket that way.

On the rare occasion that I don't wanna clean out a bucket at the end of the day I consider it an offering to the Tile Gods and it just gets tossed. Typically I'll put a trash bag in another bucket and that's where all my excess thinset/grout go, then it's easy to dispose of. As for cleaning buckets/tools it's a must because they make me money so I take care of them...

Very useful comparison between a rubber bucket and (what would happen to) a plastic bucket given the same treatment. Have actually just ordered 2 of their 22L versions ...at twice the price of a similar plastic version, one is really hoping they were worth the extra spends 🤞🏻. As a busy hod carrier a decent bucket is invaluable.

Likewise ...actually take extra care doing the end-of-the-day cleaning over the midday cleaning as I want those next-day buckets 'clean enough to eat ones dinner off' 👌🏼

I was hoping it would be easier than that. Ill stick with the plastic and scrape out the thin set while wet and onto a piece of cardboard, let the plastic bucket film up, and then toss the dry thinset off the cardboard into the trash the next day. Blessings brother Sal

I have a variety of these Rubi rubber buckets and it seems to take a fair amount of time to go at it and properly clean it with a hammer to ensure there's no pieces left over. Any further tips on tools or techniques?

Scape them down first and in the morning easy money. I have used one thinset bucket now for over a year. Haha and I went through two a week when I used plastic.just fill in with vinegar or acid when it gets to dirty to use. The only thing I hate on them is the handle. It always gets mud on it
@rooness9
@rooness9 7 лет назад
For a pro tile installer I would like to think that you know to use clean water when mixing your thinset. Also I'm sure it took you twice as long to knock the hard thinset out the next day rather than just simply washing the bucket out in the first place
