Rubicon Hiking Trail in South Lake Tahoe + What to see in Emerald Bay
The Rubicon Trail is one of my favorite trails in all of Lake Tahoe. The 4.6 mile trail (10 if you don't shuttle) goes through two state parks and along the water for pretty much the entire time. It is a beautiful area to explore and one that you want to take your time with. When you make it to Emerald Bay, plan to spend some time relaxing on the beach or visiting Eagle Falls, Fanette Island or Vikingsholm. I left some tips for each at the end of this video.

The most gorgeous trail on the West Coast of the USA, in fact the most gorgeous lake and surroundings. Fantastic photos, the best I have ever seen.

Hey Josh, I just did this trail today--my first mountain hike. There was a lot of steep up and down, but the group I was with was much more seasoned and thought it was fairly easy. Beautiful views and with the hike up to Eagle Falls it was over 11 miles. Great hike for beginners . . . like me.

Really great job on the video. That's Mt. Tallac behind you @ 1:15. You should hike the trail up Tallac one of these days, best views you'll get of Tahoe and Desolation Wilderness.

In case it helps, I prefer the more direct route up the front, better views IMO. I look forward to seeing your video of the hike some day!

I am surprised that you didn't show a shot of the "Rock". Some people say it looks like and Indian Chief, perhaps a turtle or something else. I'd post a photo of it here if I could, but that really shocked me that you didn't post that. Also, you said you haven't hiked Mt. Tallac(Pronounced Ta-Lack, not tallock) you absolutely must take that hike, it's views from the top are simply amazing and videos, while are nice, just don't do it justice, versus seeing it in person. Rubicon is awesome too, especially when you get full sun, as you will understand why it's called "Emerald Bay" with the glorious green waters....

ZitherBeast interesting, I am trying to remember if I saw it, I’ll have to google it. I have wanted to do Mt Tallac for a while but haven’t got there yet. Thanks for the recommendation I’ll have to finally do it next year!

Ive seen different trailheads for the rubicon trail. Do you know what trailhead you used. Id much rather hike 5 miles than 16 miles 😃. Or does it clearly show you which trailhead to use?

question: since we camping at eagle point campground how many miles does it take from the campground to reach some of the beach area along rubicon trail?! some sandy and rocky beach along the trail.

Why not hike through dry brown scrub brush in 110 degree heat instead? People should buy up my "Impact" and "Dance of Death" James Grider novels on Amazon by E. Paula Willson so I can afford to move out of the desert into a forested area like that.
