SHE is sooo amazing! She is totally willing to make fun of herself. I'd hire HER over Julia Roberts ANYDAY!!! She's willing to take the piss! I love her!
When they refer to "we were there when you went nuts" that was the episode which partially inspired her being cast as Patsy, when she is in her house, then this episode was after the Ab Fab success I think!
Ruby & Joanna are both so wonderful! This is one of my favourite sketches of all time. I don't think it matters that it takes the mick out of mental health a little - I think that's healthy actually, I've had problems in the past and I'm not offended, quite the opposite.
For 20 years people have been looking blank when I tried to tell them about this GEM. Thank you, it`s even better than I remembered it. (that`s rare!) she is perfect in every way.
Absolutely love Joanna Lumley - she's fantastic in every role she plays - an extremely intelligent, articulate and wonderful woman. More recently I was fascinated by and enjoyed her 'mutual interview' with Melvyn Bragg in 2011 on a programme called 'Living the Life'. If you can get hold of it - watch it - you won't be disappointed! :) x
Here is a Promo link to that "Living the Life" episode. I couldn't open the link in the description, but the promo is interesting. How can a nose be too short for Shakespeare? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YRm3gCne-wc.htmlsi=0JPL4uEOthBcmon8
No doubt Ruby wrote the sketch. She had been in and out of institutions but no one knew it back then. We're from the exact same neighbourhood in Evanston, Illinois.
2015 joanna is in the south of france all because she appeared in this sketch show back in 1991 ad fab came her way because of this so never turn down a job
I've been amused by Joanna angrily shouting at the 'cheap little tarts!' for over two decades, and now delighted at last to be able to see this again, it's still hilarious, a sterling comedy debut!!!
Its enacting a mental breakdown. Ruby Wax did good. Watching this back over 20 yrs later makes me feel a little uncomfortable. It is the birth of Patsy. It also highlights mental health issues, which Wax is all to familiar with.
Looking back on this, it was pure genius. Joanna doing it all in one take, and then Ruby's bit at the end, because that's what you do .... pull faces for other people's benefit because it's too much hard work telling them how you really feel, and they don't care anyway.
I find it interesting that Ruby sings put on a happy face to Joanna when she's losing it after hearing Ruby say that's how people reacted to her depression. still remarkably funny though.
god i STILL remember this episode and how brilliant Joanna was. so damn funny. to see it again decades later is just the absolute tits! thank u for uploading it!
I've always stuck to one thing Joanna Lumley has said: "Life is tough & strange...so there's no use in worrying yourself to death about it." Very. v. wise words uttered. (Not necessarily in that given order, I don't recall it word for word, just the general essence of what she meant).
Ruby interviewed Madonna in the 90s, ....Madonna HATED her! Ruby could tell, didn't give a shit, and carried on with her antics! It was HILARIOUS!!! And if you have studied Ruby, you KNOW she LOVED EVERY minute of it, and slagged her off afterwards! It's on the RU-vids!
Ruby didn't enjoy it at all. Ruby has actually said a million times over the years that it was the worst interview she ever did, she was so nervous that she got aggressive and it all fell to pieces. There are lots of videos here on RU-vid of her saying so.
