Haha thanks man! Glad you like it, honestly both combos sound soo good and are so unique I would be happy with either.

I think the missing step for combining these pedals in stereo is a pedalboard mixer / parallel stereo effects loop. The smallest format one I've seen is the wetter box from gigrig, which also has phase correction. This way you can set each pedal how you want, but then mix them together to deal with the difference in output/headroom. Other options are the Radial Key Largo for big boards (three stereo inputs and a master effects send!), or the new Duophony from GFI when it is available.
@lightfootfx
@lightfootfx Год назад
Yeah that would be a great thing to try, I may have to incorporate something like that soon.

I know that the Woodrow ran out of headroom pretty quick, but I still prefer the tones from that combo. probably because everyone is going for the dream combo and I want to be different lol. I feel like if you get it dialed in just right you can probably get it to open up just like a real tweed. Our last worship leader used one and he had to dial its gain exactly between 1 and 2; any more and it was way too loud for the room, would run out of Headroom, and go into overdrive way too quickly. any lower and it was too quiet lol
@lightfootfx
@lightfootfx 2 года назад
Yeah I was struggling to get it dialed it's super sensitive and the headroom is tricky to work with.

Good resource. I added a Woodrow to my supply and use it’s two channels (and guitar volume knob to cover a wide gamut of clean/dirt). It fuzzes up nicely …. and cleans up warmly but with very little sparkle. An EQ in front to carve out the guitar’s mids can help with chime (not much need for adding mids with the tweed ‘circuit’. After the pedal, a stereo digital reverb can be used (if inputs/outputs can be calibrated) to split the signal wide with just one pedal. Also: UA has made the left and right outputs slightly different from one another so the stereo output is distinct on both sides with a single pedal (smart!). Still experimenting on my end though…currently running a mess boogie v-twin (clean channel mostly) to sweeten and shape the signal just before the Woodrow. It adds a little analogue tube compression and provides for some shaping with 3 band EQ and a presence knob. Also: if the little Woodrow goes down, having a V-twin provides insurance with a quick cable re-routing (heaven forbid). Thanks for sharing your research!

Hey dude i thought this was a very good idea to compare these pedals in stereo. I wanted to share this criticism in love: do a dry demo. We are here for the sound of the amps not the reverb and delay. What would have been more helpful would be 2-3 dry demos, 1-2 natural levels of reverb/delay, and 1-2 high blend delay/reverb. But tbh for a demo of the amps specifically the reverb and delay are not needed because 1) it masks the true sounds of the amps 2) it makes it less clear to the listener how to apply the amps to their own rig in their head and 3) we may be using different reverbs and delays on different settings anyway. Regardless I appreciate ur initiative and your willingness to share your knowledge. Thank you sincerely!

I liked the Ruby and Dream sound better, and I really loved the stereo separation with Woodrow, there's no guitar sounding in the center. If there was this separation between Ruby and Dream it would be perfect :)

Thank you for this comparison. I love the sound of the Ruby and Dream together, but I cannot for the life of me understand why UA would program the dream to have the inverse phase from the other pedals. This makes it impossible to blend the two without other hardware. Why not give users the ability to invert the phase of the Dream through the app?
@lightfootfx
@lightfootfx 2 года назад
That would be super kewl if they did! You never know they might. I've heard that those amps are out of phase with each other in real life, so it could be a testimate to how accurately modeled they are.

Any advice on getting the head room to match on the dream and ruby? I have a veritas portlander and whenever I seem to do just a clean boost the dream seems to get a lot louder than the ruby, but if I dial them in with the boost on, then the dream sounds quieter than the ruby when the boost is off. I think is mostly the bass of the dream that gets louder but dialing the bass know back doesn't seem to fix it either
@lightfootfx
@lightfootfx 14 дней назад
Interesting, I would make sure the gain is set similar between the 2 of them, since the dream is getting louder when you boost it, that makes me think it’s set cleaner than the ruby so it has more headroom, I would increase the gain more on the dream and then lower the output to match the ruby still and you should be able to get to a point where when you hit the boost they both breakup equally and have pretty close volume. You’re essentially just trying to get the headroom’s to match before any pedals get pushed into them, but they won’t be perfect matched unfortunately but usually very close. Hope that’s helps!
@demilademoses5515
@demilademoses5515 2 года назад
Tonally the woodrow sounded better to me but there's like a weird distortion happening with the reverb trails on the woodrow side, probably because of how the tweed style amps breakup.
@lightfootfx
@lightfootfx 2 года назад
Yeah I was noticing that too, if I lowered the gain a bit more on it that would maybe help as well 🤔 I've never played a real tweed so maybe that is just how they react.

Friend, since I'm looking to go from ACS1 to 2 ToneX One, I already have the Stereo canvas, doesn't it correct the phase? Or should I necessarily get a Diso + Polrev?(I ask this in this video because I had heard that with the UA FX amps there was also a phase issue)
@lightfootfx
@lightfootfx Месяц назад
Hey man thanks for watching! You are correct you will need something like the diso+ with pol reverse mod. The normal walrus canvas does not fix the phase issues that come with the UAFX amps.
@johannmunoz_gtr
@johannmunoz_gtr Месяц назад
@@lightfootfx Last question bro. So the phase issues does not occur with all amplifiers? (A guy on Facebook has two ToneX (big) and he uses Canvas stereo and says he has no phase problems)
@lightfootfx
@lightfootfx Месяц назад
Sorry I misread your original question. Yes for 2 Tonex pedals it depends on the captured amps, any amp capture you use will have the original phase the real amp has, so it depends on the luck of the draw in which amps you pair, some will be out of phase and some will be in phase. I use the tone factor ac30 and pro sonic captures, these are both out of phase with each other in real life and so they are on the dual Tonex as well. So you might be safer getting a diso with polarity mod, unless you know for sure the 2 captures you will be running are in phase.

So you’re just going stereo out of the last pedal in your chain and one side mono into dream and the other side mono into the Ruby/Woodrow right? Not stereo out of the dream and then stereo in and out of the Ruby after that?
@lightfootfx
@lightfootfx 11 месяцев назад
Yes you are correct, just going stereo out of my last pedal, then mono into each amp modeler as if I were going into 2 separate amps.

As to tones you are getting out of those UAFX pedals, does the Canvas (stereo) have any additional benefit for just playing in Studio? Certainly I can see the value of hooking it up long distances live... but curious if you hear anything tonally when playing through your studio monitor speakers...
@lightfootfx
@lightfootfx Год назад
Hey Tanis, great question the canvas doesn’t really do anything if you are in a studio and are running a short cable to a daw, it’s really only useful for long runs like from the stage to the sound board.

what's the best way to flip phase of one of them live?
@lightfootfx
@lightfootfx 2 года назад
There are a few ways. You can have someone flip it at the sound board or buy something like the good wood audio output TX which is what I use, it can flip the phase and sum to mono which is handy to have. If you buy a diso plus pedal they can also mod it to have a phase swap switch for another 50 bucks.

Dream (L) to source audio eq 2 + ruby (R) to source audio eq 2 > Source audio eq 2 to diso L and R > diso to main board L + R?
