In the infantry we humped many hills before and during Nam. I remember on operations in Nam we carried at least two filled canteens, ammunition belts with at least 10 magazines loaded with 19 rounds each, 3 bandoliers of ammunition, a pack with 3 days worth of C rations, socks, poncho and belts of M-60 ammunition and LAAWS and some of us had to carry 3.5 rockets. But in the bush we had to hump pretty much everywhere we went.
We called it Humping back in the 80’s. Not just a pack, but 782 gear, flak jacket, helmet, weapon, and ammo cans full of sand. In the infantry we humped all the time and we did 18 to 25 miles on a regular basis.
just the info I was looking for bro keep it up. quick question, are knee sleeves allowed at OCS? I’ve heard mixed things from different people about it.
Good question. I'm not positive, I don't know that we had any guys wearing knee sleeves, however if you wore it under your camis I suppose nobody would know, then again you'd probably want to take it on and off which would make this difficult. I'd ask your OSO, they should be able to ask the OCS liaison and get you an answer directly. I wouldn't be surprised if they said its fine - worst case they just make you go to medical first so they give you the "thumbs up" (a chit) that says you're good to go wearing it.
2007-2012, the only time I ever heard it called a ruck or rucksack was while doing joint stuff with the Army. Outside of that, it was a hike or a hump, and you wore packs not rucks.
I'm a usmc grunt veteran, I liked your video, but you should wear trousers because you will never hump in shorts and the higher up on the shoulders you can get the packs weight will really help on long humps and a civilian training to go in I wouldn't even recommend ruck running anyway good video and good luck to you
Greetings sir! I just found out I cannot be a pilot in the Marines due to age. Could you please explain other MOS I’m interested in being an LAV officer or something like that. Thanks sir
My apologies for the late reply on this - so there’s a number of different options. Here’s a link to some with brief explanations of each: usmcofficer.com/the-basic-school/marine-officer-mos-list/
