i could be wrong ...but i think that man may have asperger syndrome... i have noticed this more n more often especially on the 4 cruises i took LAST year ...i have been asking friends n family why i see this more often on cruises... one reminded me that as a family w adults w asperger syndrome cruises r a safe way to travel and they can let their family member go it alone... that being said ....uhhh situations do come up like the one we just viewed. by the way ...i take the stairs like u...i make a game out of ...called FEEL the BURN in my calfs n legs... i see if by the end of the cruise i can make it UP more flights before i feeel the burn 🤣😂🤣 i love taking the stairs down...it is just DOWN 🤣😂🤣 right to easy not toooo

I am a cruiser that takes the stairs 99% of the time. On my last cruise, I got on the elevator to go one floor down. Two older ladies commented that I was "young & healthy" and it was "rude of me to take the elevator to go one floor down". I proceeded to lift up my floor-length dress so they could see the walking cast on my fractured left foot. It was bad enough that I had to wear the cast on a 10-day Alaskan cruise which altered all of my excursions last minute, now I had to deal with these rude ladies. People shouldn't assume anything. I've been on 20+ cruises & have never had an issue on the elevators, probably because I rarely use them.

My "healthy" daughter has EDS and POTS. She is not supposed to let her heartrate get above 180 so she frequently has to wait for elevators. Never assume what you see outside matches what is going on inside!

@@monkeyb1820 Carnival 9/20. The ship was at reduced capacity, but everyone was super courteous to him. There is a very small minority of passengers on some sailings that ruin it for all.

I typically take the stairs since I am also impatient. My pet peeve is that alot of people forget BASIC manners and personal space etiquette. People have bumped into me or gotten too close or stood to close and never even looked up to apologize or acknowledge me. My mother is handicapped and it has happened to her on her FIRST cruise and people have cut her off getting on the elevator. She blamed Royal Caribbean for not have handicap specific elevators when it's really just people being rude.

After 99 days on a world cruise I think I could write a book about elevator and laundry etiquette, some people are so rude and entitled. Many times I stood aside to let someone in a wheel chair in the lift and others rushed past me leaving me on the outside. To be honest it was probably quite funny to anyone who was watching. Would have taken the stairs more but our cabin was on the top deck.

A trick--you go in and hold the OPEN button, then get the wheelchair in. It's a good way to keep from being left behind and it helps those of us who are in the chair. I try to make sure to get someone on with me if I know they're being awesome like you are. Thank you from the wheeled!

You are oh so correct. People are plain rude and I have seen more of it in the last couple of years. How is waiting for another car going to make you feel as though your self-perceived importance has been one upped? People using a walker, wheelchair or scooter do so for various reasons but if they need these assistance devices in order to enjoy their vacation, I will respect accommodating them. It’s just plain common sense.

Now’s a good to time to remind people that just because you LOOK like you could take the stairs, there may be a reason you don’t. Before I was 40 I damaged both my knees. I look just fine walking and standing, but my physical therapist told me I can’t do stairs. I’ve gotten some stares, glares, etc from judgmental people for taking the elevator. Especially when it’s an older crowd.

Same thing happened to me. I needed hip and knee surgery and I could not do the stairs at all. If you would look at me I look capable of doing the stairs; but I had to always take the elevator, even for one floor. There were many people talking behind my back in the elevator.

My perfectly healthy husband is suffering with long haulers from near death dance with Covid. He looks fit and healthy but his lungs are trashed. He looks like he can do all the stairs but he cannot. His oxygen drops so quickly and usually when that happens, he's down for the rest of the day. It makes him dizzy and nauseated that he has to lay down. Appearance is nothing really

My family and I have been on seven cruises. My wife and I travel with our adult daughter who is a full time wheelchair user. She uses a manual wheelchair. Rarely do we ever have people let us go before them on an elevator. Sometimes people have even cut her off to get ahead of her. And yes, I will take the stairs and let my wife take my daughter on the elevator. People are mostly rude.

I am in a wheelchair too. It's rare when someone will let me in the elevator. It sometimes take 2, 3, 4, 5 times to finally get in the elevator. Everyone rushes ahead of me

Yep, handicapped should ALWAYS get on elevators BEFORE able bodied people, but there are some who LOOK able bodied, but have health conditions that make it hard for them to do the stairs. That being said, most of us could do with a lot more exercise and let those who truly need the elevator on, instead! I try to do the stairs as much as possible, usually, but my last cruise I was with my sister, who cannot walk up stairs for long without being in pain, so went with her on elevators.

Yep, I just commented about my first ever cruise, 20 minutes I waited for a lift, repeatedly people just pushed in before me, I was on the verge of tears and regretting getting onboard. It got better, people still pushed in front of me but I’d try to use the lifts when it was quiet.

I'm in my 60s and I don't use the elevators, it has become part of my workout routine. It helps keep me from creeping up 2 sizes by the end of the cruise 🤣

If people are able to walk, do walk, it’s an excellent form of exercise. Not all disabilities are visible though. Now this year, my knees are not what they used to be, walking down is painful. I don’t look my 64 years. 😅

We are with you, we take the steps 99.9% of the time. I'm 62 and my wife is 53 and I have a bad back and knee but we need the exercise. MSC Seascape elevators were strange, one button on outside and none on the inside. It tells you which of the 4 elevators you are supposed to take. We use them when we have our luggage going up.

similar to you: when I want to hit the lido, I'm impatient, actually took the stairs from 4 to 9 dozens of time on recent cruise. Probably no more than 30-45 seconds, and avoided elevator waiting/courtesy games. And people like me free-up the elevators for those that really need them.

If I'm going up 3+ floors, I take the elevator. Otherwise, I take the stairs. An exception is when I'm with my wife and she's wearing heels. But none of us are getting younger, and my knees are starting to get bad. So, I see more elevator time in the future.

Informative videos as always J. People get crazy any where around the buffets. Watch where you are going and wait your turn at certain food stations. If you are so close that you are touching someone you are wrong and need to give a little space. Have respect for elders ,women and just other cruisers in general!

Thank you for covering this. I just subscribed too. People do not care about people who can not walk the steps who need to get on the elevator. My husband is a full amputee at the hip and can not walk ( army Veteran) and he is in a wheelchair. We are booked on the Carnival Horizon in May for the second time (we went oct 2021) because he liked the elevator system on it. We tried the Mardi Gras (June 2022) and the elevators were absolutely crazy. He needed me to stop people from going around and blocking him off elevators the entire trip. people who could walk could be so close to him they could literally sit on his lap or their breast rubbed his head. When we decided to book this upcoming trio he said he would only do the horizon again. This will be his third cruise in May my 7th.
