It's the underdog story that always wins. Hollywood's versions are just cause of no imagination. Brian's Song? That is the only movie that a guy over 15 can blubber at and not get any flak. Piccolo was the underdog from High School to College to Pros. That is true. I have seen it twice. Yet haven't been able to find the Sayers speech clip in last 15 years. It's from back of room and it is silence. You can only hear sniffling and crying held back. It makes the movie look jovial. Also have never been able to find Butkus,obradovich and others on tape saying that nobody was a toughguy in that room. Even the old curmudgeon George Halas cried.
I saw this 30 years ago with my friend and mentor Steve. When it was over, he said, "This is a lesson to you." I wanted to be a published writer and I wanted to give up a thousand times, but I would think of this movie and keep going. I'm now published twice. :) I'm going to pursue film next.
I'm 80. I still get chills and tears over how the guy handled himself . A rare example of a tremendous heart and spirit ! Wherever you are today, "RUDY", GOD bless ya ! Sean Austin, "Sam, The Brave", did a hell of a job so early in his career ! .
And Dan had to live his latter days being harassed over having been portrayed as a villain, when in fact he walked off that field as moved as any other person who knew the situation.
@@zjoyce1730 His father too. In reality his dad never had that bus stop scene where he told him to stop dreaming. In fact, his father pulled night shifts at the mine to pay Rudy's tuition.
They have to Hollywood it up to build the drama. Joe Montana and Mike Golic have said a lot of this never happened and it’s okay the story is still inspiring even if most of it is fibbed.
I always liked this film about an ordinary guy with an extraordinary dream who gets to make it reality...It is enjoyable among those of us like myself that don't dream anymore...Bravo Rudy
The tears well up for the end scene, especially after watching the entire movie of roller coaster Rudy struggles…as a teacher showing this scene to students is challenging, trying not to show the tears.
Jon Favreau rocks this movie. He doesn't have a lot to work with, but he does his job like a fucking pro. He's the bro in this film, the ride of die, and it's great to see what he was able to do so early in his career.

Sitting here watching this scene for the 100x in my life, and it gets me in the feels every time. Go after that dream you have, no matter how big. You only have one life.
Hats off to Jerry Goldsmith for composing this amazing soundtrack. 👏 The part in this scene where Rudy is hoisted up on his teammates shoulders, along with the soundtrack, is phenomenal.
I go into saying don't cry this time....375th crying harder that the last 5...just so many layers. I love redemption stories. Where the hard work wins.. Fantastic
This was a great scene, but you should’ve been at the real game, I was there Even more emotional in real life, the crowd was going crazy. You couldn’t hear yourself think. I’ll never forget watching this game.❤
The teammates, the coaches, the custodian, and the parents’ support is all great, but the one who really gets me choked up is Rudy’s brother. Too often will sibling rivalry or difference in age pull siblings apart or make them hard to understand each other. And even when Rudy’s family shows up, his brother is kinda rolling his eyes. But then he gets swept up in everything and is so happy for his brother. Just really nice when someone is in full support of their sibling.
such a great story and i have been watching it since it made it on you tube for years. I know how it ends but it just shows you regardless of what your up against you can succeed.

If ND never wins another game that would suit me just fine. Having said that, if this movie doesn’t help you truly appreciate the majesty and tradition that is ND football, then you aren’t a true college football fan. Possibly the only movie I ever cried at the end of.
BRIANS SONG? I have seen clips of the Sayers speech 2 times. Cannot find it in last 15 years. Also clips of Bears tough guys, Butkus was one who said there was no tough guy in that room that didn't cry. It's stone silence, all you hear is sniffling and tears being chiked back. That should be shown as a way to be a human being. Would also make a great way to put our country back on track. On ABC.1971. James Caan as piccolo calls Sayers a N%##^r. Nobody had a problem.
I actually got to meet the REAL Rudy at a sports convention a few months ago. Conveniently for me, there was no line and I was excited to meet him. I asked him what it was like to get carried off the field by his fellow players, and he told me at first, he was a little embarrassed by it, but eventually he went along with it and felt like he was on cloud nine.
Between this and Invincible, it's amazing how many parallels there are. Regular guys with a dream to play football who just never gave up. How can you not love these stories, even if they have parts that are exaggerated for the sake of cinema?
The clip ended too soon… IMO, the BEST part of the entire movie is when it states that 5 of Rudy’s younger siblings went to college and received degrees. The family expectations changed, because he had the intestinal fortitude to try and not give up in the face of adversity. That’s my favorite part, at least.
the notre dame coach back then must have been a real jerk, he would put montana in the 2nd half when notre dame was losing big, and montana would bring them back and win the game, and then the next game he would start the same bad qb again instead of montana. and even after montana brought the team back more than once, the coach still wouldn't start him, what an ass
