wish you could interview these people. Ask them why they went fast, did they never hear of getting water in an engine or how it happens, did they never hear of hydrolocking and possible engine replacement?

That landy with the snorkel shows that even then if you approach deep fords wrong with the right kit you can fall foul

Oh nooo😨! The poor Sorento! I own the same car in black colour here in Germany. I love it so much. So I would never drive through floods like this with it. But when I visit my brother in law in England next time I will definitely visit that place. 😊

Considering we seem to be a know it all, do what you want when you want to do it society I find your videos Tom a perfect illustration of what is going wrong. People appear to have an increasing lack of common sense. At the water levels shown every vehicle could have got safely through. Just a basic knowledge of how an engine works might have set drivers thinking. Frightening, some of these people drive at 80mph on the motorway tailgating! At least it's good entertainment for the spectators and your channel viewers. Keep up the content.

Watching these videos are a guilty pleasure.

A friend of mine tried to take about a foot of water in a Ford Fiesta like splash mountain. Result was two bent con rods, blown head gasket and a cracked cylinder head. £4,000.

Most of the drivers don't have any idea about the air intake of their cars. If you go slowly in 1st or 2nd gear without much splash, they can easyly reach other side.

Mechanic shop owners nearby are killing it

This only ever happened to me once in over 50 years of driving, about 15 years ago driving back from Gloucester during the floods it was either drive though it or stay a few nights as the roads were being closed so I went for it, the water came up to my front screen, it was about 20 yards and drive through steadily and got through it, its an awful thing to happen but these guys do it on purpose. Idiots.

I am curious as previous owner of a Nissan Leaf that reportedly can go under 3 feet of water, I have seen a Renault Zoe as well and Teslas that look like submarines. Maybe you can invite Robert Llewellyn and challenge Fully Charged show to do an special report!

In case this hasn’t been pointed out as appears by the comments, there are 2 key issues: 1. Hydraulicking 2. Electrical problems 1. The fundamental principle of a car internal combustion engine is that it’s a gas pump and relies on the basic physics principle of air being compressible. It sucks in air(for the oxygen it contains) squashes it, adds fuel and a spark = a bang that drives the piston down and the crankshaft round= motion. If the air intake is, for example, at the level of your headlight under the bonnet and you drive through a deep enough flood, the engine will draw in a great big slug of water instead of air. Water is a liquid and isn’t compressible. When a piston rises on its compression stroke, the sucked in water in the compression chamber effectively acts like a solid and stops it moving, thus bending and breaking key components as a result. 2. The other issue is water getting in the electrics and shorting key systems out.

Out of curiosity, how would an automatic fare going through here? You've no manual clutch to hold while keeping revs up?

Water intake in the air filter is note good for a motor! The show goes on.

Came across a deep flood like this and remembered what my Dad told me. Put foot on clutch, go to 1st gear, rev up engine (keeps water out of exhaust) and gently release the clutch in short bursts to just keep the car moving SLOW! It worked!

When you think about it the longer the stretch of road covered in water the deeper it is. 😎
