He makes his voice very relaxed and focused at the same time! He makes a harmony with just one voice! Wow! This is one of the best songs to find out how high you can go! If someone can sing this perfectly, you know that they can sing!
First saw this many years ago on Australian tv. A special called “I’m your Man”..all songs by the late great Mr. Leonard Cohen brought to life by the Wainwright’s family. Brilliant watch.
i think he did extremely well for a live preference. most singers these days are always off key when they sing live. He doesn't go off key. he earned my respect.
+Rachel Dumas You're correct. He is on key. He's a good singer. However, today's sound technology includes the little thingy in his ear, so he is able to hear himself, just as he would in the studio. This makes singing live waaaaay easier than back in the day when we used to have to wonder if we were off because we could barely hear! Beautiful song by Lenard Cohen done beautifully by Rufus.
That's because most of them aren't singers; they're dancers, rappers, models and media personalities. This guy is a musician, in the truest sense of the term.
I knew your Mom and Aunt ......Montreal over 40 years ago. It was awe inspiring to watch and listen to you. I'm sure your Mom is pleased and smiling . For me a few tears and eventually a smile. I wish peace and love to you and yours ! Continually inspired , magical music .
"Hallelujah" Well, I heard there was a secret chord That David played and it pleased the Lord But you don't really care for music, do you? Well it goes like this: The fourth, the fifth, the minor fall and the major lift The baffled king composing Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah... Well your faith was strong but you needed proof You saw her bathing on the roof Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew ya She tied you to her kitchen chair She broke your throne and she cut your hair And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah... Baby, I've been here before I've seen this room and I've walked this floor (you know) I used to live alone before I knew ya And I've seen your flag on the marble arch And love is not a victory march It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah... There was a time when you let me know What's really going on below But now you never show that to me, do ya? But remember when I moved in you And the holy dove was moving too And every breath we drew was Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah... Maybe there's a God above But all I've ever learned from love Was how to shoot somebody who outdrew ya And it's not a cry that you hear at night It's not somebody who's seen the light It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah... Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah... Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah Hallelujah, hallelujah
Everyone seems to complain about his breathing in this but I much prefer this to the studio version. I don't know I just think it adds character and let's you know this was a live recording.
Спасибо Вам за прекрасное исполнение песни. Вы пели душой и сердцем. Я много слышала вариантов этой песни, но для меня Ваше исполнение песни самое лучшее.
Not sure exactly where this song first was written, but I know that of all the versions, and all the covers of each version, I like this one best because of how the tones work together between the vocals and instrumental part on the piano, and how stripped back it is. It really is meant to be played like this (acoustic instruments like piano or guitar+maybe bass, combined with the vocals) for best effect. I see covers that people make with too many things like drums, electric instruments and full bands all the time, and in my opinion that just starts to drown out the whole intended feel of the song. At least, it's harder to get the intended feel when there is more going on.
Original version is from Leonard Cohen 1984! Really nice song and has a huge amount of covers that are awesome! Personally this is one of my favourites!

Bravo!
Rufus Wainwright brings us to seventh heaven with his rendition of Hallelujah. Heartwarming words, strung together with the most sensitive voice and music, create a colorful mosaic of unparalleled beauty.
🐻 With the pronunciation of [Hallelujah], in words, and in this song, I felt a nostalgic sound somewhere. The pure, innocent, sacred and beautiful feelings of the singer are very well conveyed. I'm convinced that it's basically a song that can only be sung by people who feel like this. There is a hint of close friend and dearness. That's a very good place. And again, like me who has listening ears, I feel that there are many souls and feelings that sympathize with this [Hallelujah] song. The world is the earth, and the earth made me think that the song of [Hallelujah] has a certain essence and core. And I felt a profound expanse in [Hallelujah] psychology. 🌸 Grace, based on my "Japanese", it's highly probable that Google Translate isn't always correctly converted to "English". In that case, please forgive me for the fact that there are some points that do not reach my point. With the help of a special winner, I hope that someday, in a more epoch-making world, I will be able to translate and interpret correctly into "English" based on my "Japanese". We are very much looking forward to it. Thank you for your cooperation. Well then. I heard this cover about 8 years ago, downloaded it and had it in my playlist ever since, always assumed 'Rufus Wainwright' was an old man and this was a song from the 60's, only just come across this video now and was shocked to see he was a young good looking guy.
it is crazy how this video is still up here, i remember liking rufus wainwright's rendition of hallelujah and this was one of the videos i would play daily back in what feels like 2010 perhaps
Rufus Wainwright opened for K.D. Lang at the Hollywood Bowl a few years ago. I had no idea who he was but wondered if he was related to Loudon Wainwright (Dead Skunk In the Middle of The Road) fame.Yes, the son. I was impressed with his performance but I don't remember if he performed this song. I think he did because I remember one song especially that held me hostage. K.D. had not done her fine performance of Hallelujah yet. Very glad to hear it again. North Hills CA USA 02-28-2022
