ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME? This is like kicking Judy Garland in the freaking NARDS! It's a freaking insult! And he's horribly off key throughout most of this ungodly abortion!
Rufus' Music Brings an urgency that is (to me) is irresistable and compelling! Whether he is covering this Standard or , especially, when he perform his own plaintive music. The more I listen, the more I am captivated . I am "swept up" in the urgency!
What I would have given to have been in London or Carnegie Hall or wherever this was that night! (I saw a mention of the concert at Carnegie Hall, but then saw that the concert at the London Palladium was actually recorded). That concert would have healed me! Buh-bye Lyme disease! Rufus- a force of nature! Brilliant stuff. What ever happened to true singers, songwriters and performers? Please, please, a concert in Baltimore! Pretty please?
I've seen Rufus now four times. A pure gem of an artist and singer! And I once saw him perform this many years later at the Hearn power plant in Toronto. He recreated his recreation there.
That's not what Judy was referencing in this song.... Jeanette McDonald starred in the 1936 classic film 'San Francisco' where she was a singer who survived the famous San Fran earthquake of 1906. In the final scene she stands amongst the ruins - literally - with Clark Gable her lover as she sings for the hopeful survivors looking for their loved ones... 'She just stood there in the ruins and sang.."
o right. i was actually thinking of judy concerts ive seen on dvd, eg. at the london palladium....wasnt thinking of an album. but cool to know, thanks!
It's like that on the album, but this show was a different day, so maybe you'd like the album more. Plus, depending on which version of the Judy album you've heard, you might have been hearing the faux audience included to pep things up for the record, it has since been removed.
'dig'! Ah now it makes sense to me! Thanks for clarification. I always thought he was saying dick too - lol. The whole DVD of this is a joy from start to finish.
@markinthecity and @leopoldhoob. You don't like it, don't comment. The fact that you even took the time to find this video, watch it, then comment on it completely undermines anything you have to say that is negative towards Rufus. Take your narrow, contemptuous exposition elsewhere, you disdainful wastes of space.
one LITTLE thing that would have made this whole show better, would be if the audience knew all the songs...you know how everyone used to cheer wildly when judy did the first line of sanfansisco: they got so excited cus they loved that song? well i miss that here. but its still a great performance. ok how long is this comment
Awful. He has some okay moments, but frankly, his voice sounds whiny and this is an insult to Judy and all of her fans. Sure, everyone would want talent like Judy's and it's okay to sing a song of hers once, but to try to intimate her, and not to be even good at that? Insulting.
+Randy McDonald neither do i. But I like that he's revived some great songs for a generation (or two) that seemed to forget them.. ....but as soon as i'm finished this comment---I'm heading to the original.
+Randy McDonald He's awesome ! I've seen him several times, and he always puts on a great show....funny, sweet, entertaining, and very interactive with everyone....He makes you feel like he's in your living room and not on a stage. Love him :-) Lots of talent as well......
