Rugby Analysis:
In this rugby video, I look at England's defensive system over 5 rounds and how they keep numbers on feet, have fast linespeed, make dominant tackles and repeat!

Fantastic how you start with the stats then explain the reasoning behind them.

Is your style different from Squidge? Yes. Does it make it less enjoyable? Maybe to some. Is it going to stop me from watching your vids and get a greater understanding of the game I love and play? Nope. I really like the content, keep it up!

So then what are the tactics and strategies for playing against a rush defense? Is it quick ball from ruck (2 seconds or less)? Having 10/12 using a chip/grubber kick to slow down future defensive line speeds? Having that first "carrier" act as a hard dummy runner to commit double rush? I have also saw that the best way to start against a rush defense is to make sure that your rucks are mainly in the center of the field, as opposed to 5 meter line (which as you alluded in your video is exactly what a rush defense thrives against).
@ContactCoach

All these sounds like great strategies, Michael!

Steve Hansen in a n interview after this years bledisloe 1 gave away the tip to stop rush defense. use a runner around the ruck and hit the defense line with power and all blacks used it to their benefit in the second bledisloe against Australia. please do a video on that as well.

Hi! Thanks for having a look. I do actually have that video on my website (www.thecontactcoach.com). Look for NZ Return Play. Definitely lot's of power plays to stop the rush.

Really enjoyed this cheers, simple but effective. How would you counter England’s style?
@DavidTee275
@DavidTee275 3 года назад
Pick and go perhaps? If they are able to break the line consistently might force England to commit more numbers to rucks.
@thebullishpartridge1227
@thebullishpartridge1227 3 года назад
@@DavidTee275 possibly David. I’m thinking a well oiled defence like the video has highlighted would have its guards & pillars in place... most of the time! Sure Faf or Corbus would prove me wrong

Great question! Much easier said than done, but winning the gain line consistently and fast speed of recycled ball will help keep defense organization and line speed down. Smart kicking that turns defenders with a good chase/contest would also be useful. Easy from the armchair, a bit tougher on the field!
@thebullishpartridge1227
@thebullishpartridge1227 3 года назад
@@ContactCoach hey coach cheers for replying. The chip over is quite effective but how do you gain gain line advantage against any team delivering so many dominant hits, with plenty of cover as they don’t compete at the breakdown...
@ContactCoach
@ContactCoach 3 года назад
@@thebullishpartridge1227 I would frame it like 'power plays'. It starts with a dominant set-piece then a quick power play to get over the gain line. That will mean the defenders looking to fold will have to go backward to get setup. Then the next play can be similar to keep the defence on the back foot. I broke down England's try versus NZ in the semi of the RWC that has a few elements I'm talking about. What are your thoughts?
@marionkolo1386
@marionkolo1386 2 года назад
Eddie Jones used this tactics in 2003 World Cup semifinals Aust vs NZ effectively which Umaga & Spencer cannot gain yards for a better attack.

does this defence system have a name? sorry, I'm a rugby newbie and have to coach a defensive system

So How england to have a turnover ?
@ContactCoach
@ContactCoach 3 года назад
The stats would indicate that they either force a skillset error or force the opposition to kick back to them.
@supremerugby753
@supremerugby753 3 года назад
@@ContactCoach ok, like french defence. The English wait for the opponents to return the ball to them after a very big defense.

Hmm, England are offside a fair amount of the time, but cleverly just playing the ref - if it's not called, play on!

The content here is really good, but the presentation is boring. I'd recommend checking out Squidge Rugby's channel, he has similar content but the way he presents it makes it much more engaging.

Where is the referee ????!!!! It's a joke, if you look carrefully to most of the defensive sequences , England's defensive line is nearly always offside !!!!
