Ellis Genge's journey to the top of his sport hasn't followed the standard route. Proud of his roots in the working-class community of Knowle in Bristol, Ellis has grown from a self-confessed "confused" and "rebellious" youngster into one of the senior leadership figures in the England team and one of the best props in the game.
This is his story.

His story makes me cry, i think it resonates with a lot of kids growing up in the UK, not everyone in Rugby come from public schools with a lot of privilege

A proud Bristolian, that is a tough part of town but a real inspiration to kids from that background. He clearly made a few mistakes along the way but with help from others he didn't allow it to define him. There is huge potential in those areas which England need to tap into. Rugby a game for all shapes and sizes and all classes.

So many potential superstars with true grit & character, growing up just as Gengey has described here. Imagine if they got the investment, time & attention from RFU that they truly deserve. England misses that grit on the big stage so often, last weekend actually being an exception

South Africa fan here but I must admit, Ellis Genge is one England player I'm a fan of. His style of play and scrummaging is so similar to a typical Springbok prop. Aggressive & explosive💪💪 Love the fact that he calls a spade a spade as well👍

If he didn’t swear so much he’d be a good England captain. I know his angle may be, ‘that’s just me’, but the rest of us may think, ‘the swearing is just not us’.
