@@andrewkirkhope2842 But that's just an opinion, which is very different to fact. Anyway, why raise the subject of football on a rugby video at all? What is it supposed to achieve?
Is it just me, or is there an argument to be made that rugby officials should replace every official in every professional sport on Earth? They seem to be amazingly calm, organized, logical, considered, and firm in their control of these violent contests.
All the rugby referees are very good but Nigel Owens is just brilliant with his on field banter he has with the players. The respect he is shown in return by the players is brilliant too.
Bro seriously... I’m American. And our sports have reflected on our current society which is extremely entitled, I’ve never been that way, but seeing this makes me soooo happy. This is the way it should be. All sports should be a gentlemen’s sport. Compete to your best. But respect the game and those referring it. I love this video and I wish all sports were managed like this. Thumbs up!
Rugby is a game for people with warrior hearts, men and women. Part of that is being ruthless to protect your side, another part is respecting the rules and opposition. Game of life
There are 2 kinds of people you just shouldn't disagree with the judgement of:- 1. Judges like Judy, Rinder and Dredd. 2. Rugby Refs. Just stfu, unless you are gonna say something along the lines of "Yes, Sir!" or "No, Sir!"
football & FIFA know they are NO.1 followed sport in the world & think they don't need to learn from other sports... Rugby & hockeys VAR have been running for a long time now & going very well. Respect from players to the refs & other players are miles ahead.
v s No it isn't. And I speak as a former massive football fan. Started watching rugby about 20 years ago and much prefer it. Beats football hands down for match day experience, on field drama (of the tense &/or exciting, not wussy rolling around pretending to be hurt, kind), athleticism of players, sportsmanship, refereeing... I could go on.
I specially love the reaction from the players when the ''you are in the wrong sport'' comes by. Like an IMIDIATE feeling of humiliation and shame you can see from these players body language. And than Yes sir, I'm sorry. 😇 Really cool. Everyone knows what he's referring to 😂
2:15 Hahaha, see number 7 push number 21 away and then begin apologising profusely? As an amateur rugby player myself, I can tell you two things about rugby referees. 1. Only the captain gets to speak to the ref (that's why you always see two players from the same team when the ref is speaking to the "criminal." one is the bad boy, and one is the captain.) 2. To add onto that, if you try to complain or tell the ref how to do their job, your teammates will be pissed as hell because the ref can penalise your team for that, too.
I like the respekt that these players have with each other even if they are other teams, and the respect for the referee. No complaining and howling like in football!!!
In the pacific especially in Solomon Islands rugby players are very disrespectful to match officials. A country that is still in the development stage and players have these sort of attitude is not very encouraging in terms of rugby development. I admire and have respect for these rugby players showing alot of respect for these match officials. Wish our rugby players in Solomon Islands have the same attitude as these players in this video. Thank you for uploading this video.
In Scotland the refs are treated with respect. I think it's because they talk to the teams before the matches, don't pretend to be infallible and if you talk back to them your team gets penalised. Also, in the amateur game they are unpaid volunteers and you can't legally play without them.
There is a sort of tradition about it, but I think the fact that the ref is mid'ed and cam'd also plays a very big part in it. Both player and referee know that they're both completely accountable and have the eyes and ears of thousands on them.
That's a referee failure. He has the option to punish that disrespect but chooses not to. A few penalties or red cards would fix it very quickly with a fair warning to both teams in the dressing room before hand. The French referees are known to be more sensitive with this rule, consequently the players are more careful.
My favourite has to be the ref who goes "uh yeah that's a fair point" and changes his decision accordingly. Don't see many match officials who can admit they're wrong and reverse their own decision like that
Great Video, I just wished they had included the fouls and gameplay of how the rugby players got in trouble in the first place. If you only show the discipline and not the fault you can't really learn from it well.
I absolutely love how rugby punishes cheaters and dishonesty. The refs are micced so they cant bs themselves, and players are getting booked and get pens against them when they continue to bs. Cleans up the fundamentals of the game entirely. Love it
Remember the good old days when props were so exhausted from scrummaging that they couldn’t talk except to ask for water? Now they backchat referees. Actually now I think of it it might have something to do with teeth.
As an American are referees don't put up with a lot, and will punish players, But these guys demand and get respect, amazing. Don't get me started on the soccer/ football officials(terrible).
Football needs a culture change so that referees manage the game like they do in rugby. Too often you see 5-6 players mobbing, should be an instant march down the field 10 metres.
10:00 was great play and tactic by the Italians to put one one the poms, you need to know all the rules at international level. Good plan from the coach I think.
The fact that World Rugby took one look at that game a said. Yes its Legal but not in the spirit of the game and changed the laws accordingly Speaks volumes.
My uncle played and during a charity match, him and an opponent was exchanging words where the opponent being a total twat and so my uncle decided to say to him to hit him hard as he could and he did, so he slapped him back gently in the face, looked at the ref, mutual understanding and got sinbinned! The other guy sent off
At 1.28 Agnus Garner said "That's a fair point" after the player corrected him including the controversial calls to which he admitted e.g. against SA vs England and he got Ref of the year in 2018?
I know nothing about rugby rules and evidently a lot of the players don't either. Ref spends a lot of time explaining what can and can't be done to the players.
To referee / umpire, you need to be cool, calm, collected; know the rules and how to apply them, and be the equal of the smiling assassin. Many people say that I suffer from referee / umpires' lament - blind in one eye and can not see out the other! And, yes, I am an umpire! It also helps to have a quiet word to the players before the game, so that they know what to expect from you as an official. Basketball / Australian Rules, encourage to play the ball and protect the player in front and that makes the ball their object. It is also quietly mentioned not to backchat or argue... real estate can get very costly if that is to happen! Encourage good, clean and fair play, but consistently penalise where the wrong thing is done.
I'm a big football fan (also rugby), but I really love these referees. Players might get angry for their decisions sometimes, but they never start talking shit to the referee, and even if they do so, the referees won't take it. That's really awesome
7:50 he couldve easily yellow carded the player who was arguing here. He shouldn't be saying "it's not a penalty try" as if the referee doesn't know what he's doing. Just goes to show despite the fact that rugby referees are stricter, they also understand the game both mentally and physically
The referee in rugby is like God. You don't notice him until judgement is called down. Definitely some of the the most respected ref's. in any sport, standing up to angry juggernauts like they are children and they get a Magic Whistle.
