@@paxmundi4033 I think a lot of people dislike the fact that rugby is constantly compared to football. I kind of agree. In most cases the comparison is unecessary. They are two very distinct sports.
@@paxmundi4033 Having said that, I do agree that football has a lot to learn from rugby but as a pessimist I don't believe that's ever going to happen. The culture of the two sports is so different. As much as we love and enjoy the behaviour towards rugby refs exhibited by players, the opposite is true in footie. I think in the eyes of a lot of fans, especially in spain and italy, if you aren't swarming the ref after every decision, you don't care enough about your team. It's two completely different mindsets. It should be treated as such.
@@stevenmcalister826 I disagree, it is very true and its not used enough. I hear about soccer hooligans all the time but have never once heard of Rugby hooligans.
@@MichaelClark-uw7ex Then you obviously aren’t looking hard enough. There’s plenty of articles especially in wales saying how rugby fans are worse then football fans. But you don’t want to believe it, rugby isn’t the be all end all of amazing sports. Firstly, people love to talk about how much players “respect the ref.”if that’s the case, why do so many videos of referee dissent in rugby even exist, it’s self defeating. Secondly, rugby pretends like it’s the only sport with good conduct, despite not holding a candle to sports like cricket in terms of sportsmanship.
Agreed. It's a pity some of the commentators still talk over the ref so we can't hear everything clearly. Producers that watch these and read the comments: please dial up the ref volume and mute the commentators every time the ref speaks. Otherwise, the best information is lost. Cheers!
I played in college. I still remember my first day and the Captain of the team explaining the rules, the most important of which was that we address the referee as sir and that this is a sport that allows no BS. #ElegantViolence
Been watching these referee compilation from rugby a lot now, and am falling in love with the sport. Few sports out there with such assertive refs and such gentlemenlike behaviour by these big athletes. I´m gonna learn this sport... Football-players could learn a thing or two about how to act on a pitch...
The best comment I ever heard was in spring during a 6-Nations-game, when the French ref told the captain "I may be wrong, but this is my decision." I had to accept it, because this was a situation one couldn't judge in front of the TV.
5:23 - Referee: "red for black 12, yellow card for black 16."Commentator 2 seconds later: "Could be a double card here."That's what happens when you talk all over the ref's decisions, you miss important information and make yourself look like an idiot! XD
rugby refereeing was a huge inspiration for me as a teacher.. just to say in advance what will happen at once. most of the pupils though i was joking but there was no joke
You know, I cannot help but watch these videos with total admiration for the referees AND the players. The players always accept their punishment without histrionics and never argue back. That's unreal. I'm a huge football fan and I wish to fuck that football players would act with the same grace and professionalism as these rugby players.
It would be nice and also it's entirely possible. All it would take is the required rule changes from FIFA.....but they are only interested in lining their own corrupt and greasy pockets, they have no concern for the game.
"The players always accept their punishment without histrionics and never argue back." Part of the reason for that is that in rugby rules, arguing back leads invariably to greater punishment.
I like how civilised players react to being sent off. If other sports (*couhg* soccer *cough) could take an example that would be such a relief. One of the reasons I don't watch soccer anymore.
As a football fan having just seen the rugby World Cup I am truly jealous of the quality, clarity, transparency of your officiating. Not only that but also the conduct of your players. Football may be the world's most popular sport, but it stands in the shadow of Rugby in this respect.
Well their jobs are to talk. Especially when the refs are just talking to themselves. There wasnt much going on during that time and their job is to fill that in. It wouldnt have mattered in the long run because as soon as theyve made the decision, the commentators will recap what happened and say what the outcome of the decision would be. Its just merely how youre suppose to conduct yourself under certain situations. Like say if you were a boxer and you downed an opponent, youre suppose to sit and stay in the opposing corner. Same goes for media. If its quiet, or boring, or slow, you're suppose to create a distraction to retain people's attention at all times.
There are several things that sets rugby apart from soccer, aside of the sport itself. Yes, the players has a deep-grown respect for the sport, the other players and the refs. That's amazing! The players trusts the refs. But, the commentators are also a big part of rugby staying classes above other sports. 99% of the commentators of professional matches makes an effort to be neutral, knowing the rules of the games, and they are objective in their commentating. That's really important as well! For rugby to stay classes above all other sports, all parties of the game MUST hold a high level of professionalism and objectiveness. I hope that football (soccer) can get just 15% up the level. I love football, and I love to referee games. When I use the mentality and communication from rugby, it really helps...
I'm a ref as well, no matter how much respect you show to the players there is always so much contempt in return. I'd like to see some rugby staff come over and help integrate such skills.
@@charliesilverwood3608 I find that it is what is allowed by the sporting association at the top level determines the treatment. Allow abuse at top level and it filters down. Don't allow it and people grow with that expectation of behaviour.
This video has got nothing to do with football, so why bring it up? Why can nothing positive be said about rugby without making some kind of negative statement about football these days? It's pathetic and it needs to stop.
I do love watching these types of vidoes where rugby refs take no sh*t. I guess my only feedback is that I would love to see the offense for all the decisions so I know what they're penalising them for. But thanks for a quality vid.
Hi, so I've had this same thing asked on previous compilations, and the reason I don't include it is simply for time. This video is already nearly a quarter of an hour long (and it's the 11th video in the series), including the actions would bump the video lengths up to ludicrous amounts. Besides all that, I don't think it's that important, my video is specifically about the referees mannerism and tactics with the players, there are plenty of big hits, red card whatever videos out there for the actual hits themselves. -devin
I agree one hundred percent that the first one with clear foul play but also the issue of the head being at an awkward position, would of otherwise been a certain red card but in this situation a yellow was the better call
I'm an Australian Greek-so I love soccer and Australian League Football: but what I love about this-is how little the players complain to the referees and just accept their decision...
I like how the referees only refer to players by their number. It keeps a respectable distance between them. The one thing I dislike about Australian Rules is that the umpires call the players by name, even use nicknames sometimes. It suggests a possible bias at the subconscious level.
No bitching, no moaning from the players. This isn't soccer. It's Rugby!!! A game played by thugs (I use that term in jest) who have respect for all involved!!!!
Ian Grubb a lot of conditioning. Argue with the ref and that penalty gets closer to ur posts. You’ve now got 14 angry team mates looking your way. Easier to apologise and take it, they won’t change their mind!
This is a rugby video so why bring up football? It's as if nothing positive can be said about rugby without making some kind of negative statement about football these days.

@@Leifr952 Do rugby players crowd around their referee badgering for a free/penalty like soccer players? No, they do not. Otherwise they'd loose 10 metres, that might have taken them 20 minutes to win.
@@snipper1ie Who said anything about soccer? This is a rugby video. Weird how rugby always has to bring up that completely unrelated sport for... no reason whatsoever. Anyway, soccer is full of respect, just like all sports.
Professional soccer players should look at the amount of discipline and respect towards the referees in this sport and than they should go and sitt in a corner for a very long time and feel a shamed of themselves. I mean. They aren't children but you can't call them adults either. Soccer needs a reform.
It'd be great if professional rugby could get some unbiased referees. Frank Murphy, a former Munster player, refereeing Munster vs Leinster was an absolute joke and even more ridiculous that it happened again this year
Refs, captains actually mean something, and love the game so much that you want to put good gameplay overall, now I’m becoming a fan, fuck football shit.
Why do all the players, after being carded, have that stupid i don't believe this look on their faces and shake their big boulder heads? Honestly, are they that stupid or just not aware of the rules?
If there is anyone competent in UEFA, rugby refs should be signed as consultants: not rules, but widespread demeanor on the field. This video is proof that this is possible... So what's lacking? To have willpower you need to have the will to push.
From the first time you touch a rugby ball, you are told that the ref is "Sir" (whatever gender they are), that you do not argue with them (or he can penalise you 10 metres, then your own team get on your case) and that even if the ref is clearly wrong, that is the correct interpretation of the Law for that instance. I coached and could tell the players from a football background instantly, as the first thing I had to deal with was their tendency to argue the bloody toss about everything. Rugby is dangerous, it has to be played with discipline, and that starts with respecting the ref and the whistle.
It's quite interesting. Rugby is a game that was created by English private schools. Rugby players often come from good backgrounds with a good education. The respect for the referee would have been a given in private schools. Cricket is similar. Football is the sport of the working class....I think I'm right in saying well educated young men would choose Rugby or Cricket as a means of expressing their sporting aptitude, leaving football to the uneducated masses. Is that accurate? Either way, football is full of hooliganism and a lack of respect, both on and off the playing field from both players and supporters. Football most certainly isn't 'the beautiful game'.
I see players disagree sometimes after seeing yellow or red but somehow they never argue, they never shout on a referee, they never touch or push the referee. I was a football player and a big fun of football but our behavior was completely opisite to that what i see in rugby. Amazing how huge difference is in those two fantastic disciplines when it comes to face referee's decision. Can't what football any more seeing what footballers do to refs and them selves and yet pretend nothing happend, they dive, cheat although they know can be verified by VAR.
Here's a full interview with an ex referee, talking about that Ben Flower sending off, the modern game, mental health and much more ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-y8ehMZZVBNg.html
If those overpaid primadonna s who call themselves footballer s were to show the RESPECT to the referee perhaps the game would have a better following with less aggro off the pitch
FFS, this video has got absolutely NOTHING to do with football, so why bring it up? This is supposed to be a celebration of rugby so why the needless comparison with a completely unrelated sport? This weird inferiority complex from rugby needs to stop.
Mr A no if you see the ref blows the whistle and the black hooker then picks the ball up to try and waste time. iF you have ever played rugby you would understand that a few seconds could win you the match. Guess that's the New Zealand mentality and that's why we're so strong at rugby
@@abcd1234jason I understand what you mean but the Score is at 12 - 0 to the black team with 3 and a half minutes till the half and they are just about inside their own 22. There's no logic to why he'd want to tap and go considering the most sensible option would be to kick for a lineout. Also he could've gone for the ball instead of pushing the player. If he did so there wouldn't have been an issue.
Mr A Rugby isn't about being sensible it's about being smart, grab the ball go for a quick tap catch them off side?? Knowing rugby players someone from black will complain to the ref so they'll get marched another 10?? Kick for the corner and get one final line out in maybe 20m out and put some pressure on, scoring just before half or after the half can break some teams, kiwis will run from anywhere guess that's why we're so good lol
@@abcd1234jason Are you implying that I'm not kiwi? which city are you from because I'm from Christchurch and the Crusaders is my team. Being sensible is being smart. There's no difference in the two. You think running the ball from just about 80 meters out is smart? a kick to touch would gain you 30+ meters easy. Gambling on whether the opposition team would make a "Mistake" is a retarded way of playing especially when you're so far from the opposition goal line.
Since the Law change that allowed tactical replacements more boofs have crept into the game. Size has increased because the ones who grew muscle instead of brains could be included. [Perhaps we should only allow medical replacements and include one disabled person (with replacements of course) and maybe go back to Rugby as it was designed.] No replacements even? There is no need for them apart from keeping the gambling community happy. Don't play medically compromised players, solved. Other advantages? Collisions are lighter, still heavy enough for the Vandals and Goths, but 80 minute players are by nature leaner. Less damage to the pitch at scrums. Fewer working class IQs so more 'bright' players which could be very useful. [psst: and it will prevent those prodigiously talented South Sea players from ever dreaming of RWC glory - diet/culture issues] Altogether a retrograde step.
Cancel that. I just promoted Japan into the top rank. Their dastardly tactic of absorbing the initial energy and then romping like Shinto gods over a flailing opposition as the ref looks at his watch may become normal. I do apologise.
Some of these "would be infants teachers" spoil the game and the spirit of the game. Red/Yellow cards like they were going out of style. Only time they have any authority. Probably henpecked as well. Dont know why they dont just play tippees. Commentators are just as terrible. No wonder crowds are falling.
The rules are there for a reason. Player safety and to punish irresponsible behaviour. You comments smack of someone who has never taken the pitch. For every single one of these decisions I don't know another player who would look at it and disagree with any of them. The most dangerous thing on a pitch is a weak referee
