I'm a New Zealander but this will always be my favourite world cup. I was 12 so it was the first one I could follow properly. I remember leaving my tv on all night and falling asleep during a game (we're 12 hours ahead of SA) and then waking up during another etc, plus the replays came on again a few hours later so you could watch what you missed. It felt like some grand occasion! This song used to give me tingles and pump me up. I was too old for the next world cups for it to feel so magical. And I also cared less when NZ got knocked out. This one broke my heart at the final. It took many years for me to accept that the stars were always aligned for South Africa to win this tournament ☺️
Bro I was 10 and exactly the same as an aussie. I worshipped campese and gregan and two years earlier i'd seen the monster Lomu destroy a guy as he broke down the wing live at a sevens tournament. This was when Rugby's popularity was hitting the big time and it was amazing!
And the Springboks has once again retained their status as World Champions after their victory over the All Blacks in the World Cup finals last year. The Rugby World Cup returns in 4 years time when all eyes turn to Australia hosting the Rugby World Cup 2027.
I think this song inspired a nation to get behind the Boks of '95. As I listened I recalled the way Chester William's scored those 5 pointers at Ellis Park. What a legend. RIP.
THIS IS THE BEST VERSION!!! We sing this back in high school in every school devotional. The girls sings the main verse and the boys will warrior the warrior chant!! With a hundred voices this song will bring a good day to everyone.
No other version comes close.I was but 11 in 1995 and I'm 35 now but it still sends shivers down my spine.Even during subsequent World Cups, when I hang out and watch rugby with my friends this is what we play to get us in the right "gees"(spirit) .PJ POWERS and LBM,you nailed it.
Truly beautiful the beating of the drums clips of the world cup Ladysmith Black Mambazo in there PJ Powers with her lovely voice tears of joy rolling down it's an amazing song giving hope to tomorrow I feel it..!
In that 95 World Cup Jonah Lomu was a dominant giant who bulldozed all players who came up against him. In the final SA faced New Zealand and James Small (arguably) the smallest player on the field was tasked with stopping Lomu and he DID and SA won the World Cup and unified a divided country. He passed way this week...Google James Small vs Jonah Lomu and watch the movie Invictus with Matt Damon and Morgan Freeman
@@kagisosepeng4246 I actually have the movie Invictus at home, I must have have missed that part. I do remember the New Zealand giant though. Thank you
Tears of joy rolling down my guy I mean the beating of the drums there's Ladysmith Black Mambazo going 'woza umhlaba uqoqene' mama Thandeka with the her lovely voice...man this song is full of hope for future..!
Can't listen to this song it gives me tears in my eyes after all these years.Still the best version of the song complimented by the best ever Sprinbok team.
I was 10 when this World Cup was on I had been playing rugby for 5 years, It will always be favorite theme . Unfortunately I had to retire from playing at 23 due to injury. But I will always love the game.
Tears of joy rolling down Gabriel what a song I mean hearing words like ...'if I win lose or draw there's a winner in us all...the beating of drums the lovely voice of PJ Powers it's 'crazy' absolutely beautiful..!!
I was 7 years old when my family and I emigrated to England in 1995. I remember watching the rugby world cup. This version always gives me goosebumps, a tear in my eye and a lump in my throat. Cause I will always be South African ❤❤❤
Jonah Lomu bulldozing English lines for an unstoppable try. South Africa battling to win the World Cup in a nation fresh out of Arpatheid and beaming with hope. This song transverses all borders. World in Union babe
This song is Soooo special. I become emotional when I listen to it seeing the Springboks fighting sooooooo hard for our Country. This song is uniting. 😭😭💪💪😍❤️
Wow I just burst into tears....how did our rugby change since Nelson Mandela was released. We miss you TATA.....Its the WORLD IN UNION....BOKKA 2019 bring the cup home and restore the spirit of disunity.
World champs once again 2023. Proud to be South African. Keep this song cos it will remain the best for the next generations to come. African version has that thing.
@@Crustywasp.... 🤣 No matter what you say, if you go to the history books, South Africa has won the world cup 3 times! Only 2 countries have won it 3 times! New Zealand and South Africa... Top 2 teams in the world if I might add! 😁
love love this song I was matriculating that year first full academic year matriculants in the new SA rainbow nation and here we are Rugby KINGS wow what a journey #strongertogether
What a special time this was. Brings back such awesome memories. I was 12 years old then, and so NOT a rugby fan. But I recall being swept up in the hype of it all.
I was 12 at this world cup event and still ta best version of world in union, my first time ever to watched Jonah (rip) at His best in the sémi-final when they demolished England and i felt so sick when they lost in da final. Its 2023 now n i never find ta best occasion in a RWC except this
I remember blasting this tune when I was in my mid teens such a powerful and uplifting tune,1 of my favourite bag workout tunes have it on repeat twice 2018 and still no comparison to the day to this version
Who would have thought that the players born this year would be the ones to take home the World Cup for the 4th time as a first in history. Born just late enough to miss apartheid but early enough to still suffer the struggles of the of South Africa till now. I’m proud to be South African.
What a wonderful song, which will be there forever from South Africa, this was so much more than just rugby, it was a nation coming out of apartheid, the words are very much about this, the song is part of my childhood, rugby world cup 95 will remain in the memory of so many, its sad that the changes for the majority of South Africans have still not happened and our beautiful country is in the state that it is... This song still gives me goosebumps!
I remember looking at my mom during the game and those last suspenseful moments before the whistle blew. She was silently crying. What a day to be a South African! I cannot explain what I saw that day. It was a feeling more than anything else and this song evokes emotions I felt that day
❤😂this will stay in my heart the best world cup those days iwas working at Groote Schuur hosp.iwas running in 15min. Time to Salt river for train😅 to Kraaifontein but everything change
As England Rugby fan but with Springbok heritage, congrulations to the Springboks on 2019 World Cup Win, you Bookies made history today. This beautiful verision made it clear too me that South Africa would be crowned champions. Well done Japan too on making it a brilliant tournment.
Pure magical my sister is too young to remember this I was only 8 but still remember it. But she's in South Africa on her honeymoon, they only know that Waka Waka Shakira song. Nothing on this, coming from an Irishman this is so so special. R.I.P Jonah Lomu too❤❤
This song take me back to my childhood years it is a good song with a strong message to us is people we will all ways have mounts to clime we will have a victory
I associate this song with the year South Africans became free people. My parents were against the Apartheid regime and I remember this as turnpoint in South Africa and my personal life. This song is iconic - especially this version. To think a country went through such a dramatic change just before the World Cup and pulled of such an event with so much pried... makes me tear up. Things have gone so bad afterwards.
I was at the ireland wales game at the 95 rwc and while it was a great tournament it always left a bad taste in my mouth how forgotten max brito was after breaking his neck playing for the ivory coast
One vivid memory I have is after the boks had won in the final, the analysts at the sabc studio had done their part and the it was time for the show to end, the credits rolled for the last time while this played
Can anyone please tell me whether the version of "Bread of Heaven" from the 1995 World Cup album (in which this version of World in Union appeared) is available on youtube?
What a wonderful victory congratulations south africa with the best try in the history of the game, an unbeleivable final it was beating a rubbish team called england sensationally. We love south africa and we loved the world cup victory.
It was a special moment in South Africa history....I wish you had the chance to be there that day, I think most South Africans had goosebumps and will say to you it was one of the proudest moments ever experienced in our country, it was unreal.
RWC 2023 is currently being stage on round two and Australia Wallabies lose to the Flying Fijians yesterday for the first time in 60 years. And this Rugby anthem always come to mind when i think of RWC ...
I C O N I C ! ! ! I was 10 years old in 1995. That year the spirit throughout the country was indescribable. There was an energy. I can still remember busses on white people going into black areas to celebrate, which was illegal a couple months prior. Seeing black people setting off fireworks on beaches for white people. Francois Pienaar and our boys lifting Madiba up. My tears rolling now. It was riveting. We truly we in union. Wow just wow. I was gifted to lived thru that and I'll never forget it ❤ this is the ONLY version I'll listen to. Period
