It took a lot longer to get the Ruger 57 in then what I thought because of this pandemic when it hit back in March of 2020 and had trouble finding ammo and finally found some and took it to the range and was disappointed as soon as I rack the slide because it was failing to load and it did that several times then I got it the fire and I like the way it's shot but then it started acting up again and I called Ruger and they set me up an appointment for UPS to pick it up to go back to Ruger in Prescott Arizona and they said they will take care of the problem or send me a new gun. Ruger is top-notch when it comes to customer service oh, they are the best at it and can't wait to get it back to try it out again.

@@JDPyrotechnics idk ive used a lot of their products...military and civilian...professionally. its generally speaking a 50/50 shit/amazing product. ive seen a highly maintained gau21 turn into a paperweight....thats like 30k down the tube that EOD ended up cutting up to get a live round out of the machine gun. they sold thousands of pistols that were demonstrated to ND if hit after a certain operation of the trigger. a company that makes a standard market product at a custom market price can go the way of the wind. The m240 is highly reliable but susceptible to a form of user error that should have been engineered out of the weapon. if you leave the safety on with the bolt closed and you rack it, it wont make it past the safety and will slide after friction can no longer hold it causing the bolt to shear the safety and cause the 240 to become a runaway gun. FN just confuses me. having the kind of market they have but they cant seem to dominate it except in the heavy weapons market, of which their weapons fail amazingly often.

To me it looks like a superior gun to the FN five-seven and I'm going to save my pennies to buy one. I'm hoping cmmg mk57 will start making their carbine compatible with Ruger magazines. I've never understood the complaining about price of ammo. I don't think I've ever paid more than $18 a box for American Eagle and often less. And usually only pay about 21 dollars a box for FN ammo. Once I even found the FN Redbox ammo for about $17 ( I sure wish I bought more of that) and it seems to me those prices aren't any worse than anything over 40 caliber. I heard One reviewer on RU-vid say Gold Dot Was going to be making a defense round.

SS190 has a steel penetrating tip, and an aluminum core. Think of the SS109/M855 design, but with aluminum behind the steel tip, and only 31 gr. FN still manufacturers this load as it's the primary duty load for the 5.7. It has never been available commercially on the US market, because ATF said it's AP, and FN will only ship it direct to LEO/MIL agencies with proper purchase orders. However, it's commonly available for $150/box on GunBroker.. You don't need SS190 to poke through soft armor anyways. Sell hello to SS198LF, or Elite Ammunition T6B, Devastator 3.09, Or Vangaurd Black Dragon Fang..

If you haven't already, read the full Fort Hood shooting report. It was not shot placement and it wasn't the '22lr has killed a lot of people' arguement. It was the fact that the 5.7 fires a high velocity round that is quite devastating. Everyone shot was stopped in place, regardless of where they were hit. People shot in the legs were stopped, bones broken.
@sweet65mustang
@sweet65mustang 4 года назад
@@ChanDaKillaMan it is not 'all about shot placement', that definitely plays a part but if you think 2 people getting shot in the exact same place, one with a 9mm and the other a 300-378 weatherby would result in the same survivability, well, I just don't know. The are a lot of people saying 'it doesn't matter what caliber you use, it's shot placement' but the are studies proving that the more energy a bullet carries, the less survivable it is. If a 9mm passes close to your heart, you're in trouble. If a 357 sig passes that same path there is increased hydrostatic shock damage to the tissue.

The 5.7x28 is literally built around short-range combat. I hate that it's soo slept on about the size of the caliber, but it's the amount of energy where it shines. The 5.7 is honestly the best choice for self-defense. Once u hit your target, the bullet will tumble and will cause more internal damage.

The major issue that still remains with ammo supply: FN is the sole producer of brass for the 5.7x28mm because of the coating they use. FN cares little about civilian sales, so it will be interesting to see if another company makes brass, or FN pumps out more of it. The American Eagle bullet is very short, and is prone to set back or popping out of the case mouth, because the factory rounds are glued in vs a mechanical crimp.

Here is an example of the problem with 5.7x28mm: In those famous FBI shootouts. If the Agents had the FN 5.7 or the Ruger 5.7x28mm they would have done worse to stop the "bad" guys. _But_ the FBI Agent's would have penetrated their body armor & car doors. Thus, in normal every day self-defense incidents the weakness of the 5.7x28 due to bad performance out of under 10 inch barrels. This is easily seen compared to a 9mm or .45 ACP round man stoppers.

Now you’ll buy this pistol just because you (fill in the blanks for justification) and then you’ll need the matching carbine (when that comes out) that takes the same magazine for the sake of tactics and commonality. And then someone else like CZ will have a better mousetrap version all hyped up in RU-vid with a “like” from Hickhock-45 and the cycle repeats. Fun ain’t it? I have five Rugers, including the Ruger PC9 that I pack with a Security 9. Great combo, and a LOT of fun to shoot. I'm definitely going to purchase the 57, so how about Ruger coming up with a Mini-14, or Ruger Precision style rifle, chambered in 57X28 that will accept the 57 magazines. You bring it, I'll buy it!!!

The 5.7 round at this point and time fits the same niche as the 6.8 round. They are both good rounds and all, but not a lot a people own weapons that take that type of ammunition. I am glad that more American manufacturers manage to build them here, I tend to trust more on American made guns. I am well aware of German, Belgian, and Italian manufacturing some reliable products out there, it’s just a personal preference for me.

@@adamg3018 I hear a lot of gripes about the round. Now I can see why people aren't a fan of the gun, but considering the accuracy and the weight, that was a part of it's sale point for me. Not that I don't mind a good hefty metal gun. I love them. But a good gun is a good gun to me. I also feel like Ruger is stepping into the game late on this one. That being said, the hardcore Ruger fans will buy it up. I'd personally just rather stick with the FN. I've had good luck with them so far, and am looking forward to the 509 compact. The 5.7 has always been my favorite though. I love the round as a whole.

As others have said, FN mostly took heat over the cost of the firearms, not the merits of the cartridge. And let's face it: the pricetag for a Five seveN is beyond ridiculous! FN deserved a little crap for that!
@blakenoneya2597

@@laptopcommando Most definitely don't disagree with the pricetag bit. It is expensive. It's just one of those things I stand by as a whole. I've had no problems out of it, so I stick with it. Like I said, I know the hardcore Ruger fans will buy it, and those who do like the round will buy it if they don't want to pay the price of the FN. There needs to be a slight correction on this video. SS198LF and SS197SR (27 grain green tip hollow point and 40 grain blue tip Hornady V-Max respectively) are both still widely available. SS198LF has been proven to work against ballistic glass and do massive damage to 3A body armor (as in almost as it nearly split the clay behind the 3A in half with a massive hole). The SS197SR blue tips have been shown to just straight up defeat level 3A soft body armor, using a polymer tip to punch through the Kevlar and inflict massive trauma to the person behind it. Yawing much like the XM193 does. Point is, this is closer to a rifle caliber than it is a pistol caliber and while you're not going to see crazy stuff (like it defeating AR500 plate) you should be aware of it's abilities when picking ammo. In his testing, Paul Harrell found that it will not hit an innocent behind the meat target (meaning it doesn't over penetrate) it will, however, dump a LOT of kinetic energy into the simulated lung tissue (in this case a watermelon). To his point as well, why would you want to carry this? If your job involves the possibility of armored bad guys (like an armored truck guard) this is the round for you. If you want a light recoil that makes a big bang at the range, this is the round for you. If you want a light pistol that will reliably hit at 100-150 yards, this is the round for you. If any of that interests you, this is not only the round, but the pistol for you.
