I always use a laser bore sighter to line my optics up. I think they do have them in 5.7 shells as well. Just turn em on and chamber the round. Then point and line your dot up.
All shots high and left. I'd say this is more of a shooter issue than an issue with accuracy of pistol. I have the gun, have used various rounds in it, and can honestly say after close to 500 rounds, only seen one jam. Never had an extraction issue, nor a feed issue. It's a nice gun, with either iron sights or optics.
A few tips for those watching: 1. Use a torque screw driver, should be in inch-lbs 2. Let your thread locker cure for the recommended time on the bottle before inserting screws 3. Tighten each screw at the same rate, alternating screws, before locking them down to factory recommended torque. 4. Use witness marks on all of your screws, even the ones you won’t see.
MY RUGER 57 UPGRADES: 1.)-> HOLOSUN 509T circle/dot fully enclosed sight. My gunsmith drilled the holes to mount the included HOLOSUN plate on the RUGER slide. 2.)-> black Cerakoted the slide 3.)-> painted rearmost surface of the hammer WHITE to easily see if it is cocked 4.)-> The Vest Guy Cordura cloth double mag pouch 5.)-> RUGER Kydex OWB style holster 6.)-> 3rd magazine (2 in double pouch, one in the pistol) Sixty rounds total! PLUS, for my PS90, 5 mags, 4 in two double mag pouches on my vest. ZOMBIES BEWARE! 210 rounds of badassery.
I put just 40 rounds of Federal so far, no issues. I haven't shot the same FN you shot(red and blue box)yet, but ready to put the Venom on it. I'm praying it doesn't effect the cycling. Thanks for the vid.
I just put on the same Venom last week. The Ruger mounting plate screws already had thread locker on them. But the problem came when I went to use the screws that came with the Venom. They bottomed out on the top of the slide as I see yours did as well. But mine never came close to tightening the red dot at all. I had to use my belt sander to shave off a few thousandths from both. I don't recall what how long the started out as but I shaved them down to 0.380" and they seat well without bottoming out on the slide. My slide has permanent marks from the screws now as yours does. I've read about the issues with the weight of the red dots, and with the plate we must use, well, that's that much more weight. A weaker spring might help with the rearward travel of the slide, but the same weaker spring might cause problems with the next round feeding. I haven't taken my R57 out to shoot it yet since mounting the Venom. I purchased only 1,000 rnds of ss198lf and won't use anything else. And I won't feel confident with the setup unless I can shoot at least 500 rounds without any type of failure. Otherwise it's the G17 that stays by my side in the mean time.
Same here my ruger 57 slide has those permanent screw mark on the slide when I put my new Burris fastfire 3 but it is screwed in pretty tight and fit’s pretty good wished the screws would have been a little smaller though but I guess it’s not that bad on the marks on the slide can’t see it when the reflex adapter plate is on the slide.
I don't know what to say about this video. First off, let me start by saying I own a Ruger 57. That being said, it is a very tight shooter with open sights. I bought this gun with the idea of putting a red dot on it and then decided not to after seeing how tight the shots are with open sights. Yes the sights needed adjusting but thats not due to the guns issue but to the shooter. I would beg to say that this gun is not for you and or that you need more trigger time at the range. Second big thing i would like to say is that mine has had 0 malfunctions with all ammo that you shot in the video and then even more. I hope this review video has not turned anyone away from buying a Ruger 57.
I bought mine a couple weeks ago and the initial zero was wayyyyy off. But after adjusting I'm able to keep a way tighter grouping than this guy. I don't like the low visibility of the fiber optics in the dark. I was gonna update to the tritium sights and may eventually but I just ordered the sight mark red dot from Ruger for now. I did have about 3 double feeds out of 170 rounds. I think Ruger needs to redesign the mag because while loading it some of the rounds tend to slip forward causing issues loading the next round. I found myself needing to push rounds rearward while loading.
I Think by you Adding the Mounting Plate and the Red dot Sight you have added weight to the Slide Causing MalFunction...These 5.7x28 pistol need to have a light weight Slide.
I had a feeding issue and I have not gotten an optical yet. I was using the federal ammunition though. Haven’t gotten my hands on some FN rounds yet. Went through about 75 rounds so far and i did have a few (5x) issues where it would Jam though. Loving the gun and how it shoots, other than the jamming issue. I may need to just clean it thoroughly. Maybe some shards of brass are in their. 🤷🏽♂️
Oh thank the Emperor I was kinda bummed that it didn’t have any rails on top but now I know the items I needs to get and remember knowing is half the battle. 😁Thanks for the vid gots me a new sub on the youstube
thanx bro you really helped me out with the mounting of an optic... although I went with the Burris Fast Fire 3... cant beat the (Forever Warranty:No Questions Asked) love the vids keep bringing us the goodstuff
@@tyduce2307 was able to get the Burris FastFire 3 mounted with no issues... Didn't run into any hiccups throughout the process... Is it possible maybe the screws you received were damaged before the install?
My first three shots with Federal ammo failed to feed properly and bent the bullet over in the brass. Not sure if it was the ammo or if the firearm was just wearing in. I also noticed that it was ejecting the brass a little further back with each shot. The first few were ejected right beside me with them sequentially getting further away and back.
That's funny none of my screws that I have fit the mounting plate on my Ruger there's only one set of screws and I have that fit but they're just a little too long not even the ones that came with my Vortex Viper don't even fit that's weird
I just purchased one thursday tested it sunday ran into 1 or 2 jams but cleared the chamber and fired ok where could I get the rounds in the red box from and the ss198's
Sears It runs like a sewing machine!! I haven't had 1 single malfunction I also installed a tactical light on it as well there's hardly any recoil your gna love it !!
Do you have any feeding issues after mounting venom? I do for the first cpl rounds I mean I already did cuz the mags are shit but I fixed that now the red dots making it jam
At least I know I’m not tripping. Definitely have to load mags carefully. I’m ocd so I definitely notice the bullets don’t load in the mag well. But when put it right. No failures and I have 2 5.7s
The Vortex adds too much weight with those crappy underpowered Federal rounds. The 40 grain V-max & the Federal rounds are underpowered junk, so they will have trouble running the slide with the optic on it. SS195LF, SS198LF, EA T6B, Vanguard BFD & rounds like that are the ones you want to run.
#1 you don't just add weight to a slide and not add a guide spring whose tension matches the added weight to the slide #2 you don't just switch up ammo while trying to tune in a gun #3 if this gun is hitting that far off... it is not the sights. You need to figure out what you are doing to pull in that direction so bad #4 there are now 45000 people learning incorrect things
Never tighten one screw or bolt or anything completely before putting in the other screw nut Bolt excetera. Never! Every school boy should know that. You must not be very mechanically inclined.
@Gear Know-How I'm on the fence between getting the Ruger or waiting for PSA to make an optics ready version of Rock 57, so I appreciate the video and how up front you were with everything.
SNUG DOWN BOTH SIDES FIRST DO NOT TIGHTEN ALL THE WAY ONE AT A TIME AFTER SNUGING THEM DOWN THEN TIGHTEN EACH SIDE LITTLE BY LITTLE DO NOT TIGHTEN ONE SIDE THEN THE OTHER
There is an issue with this firearm or the dude running it. Rds off a rest it should literally keyhole the same spot over and over at 10 yards. Wtf ? This dude a noob or the firearm?
I also modified the clip spring due to it being too tight. Once I clipped a small section out of the clip spring and adjusted the spring I've never had issues with most rounds.
First video of installing red dot on Ruger 57. Too bad that there is no way to have co-witness iron sights. Moreover, obviously, commercial 5.7x28 ammo is too weak to eject empty case and to rack Ruger 57's slide reliably with red dot installed, although they lightened the slide up as much as possible. Also, light strikes... Ouch! Too much failures for such overhyped gun.
I always get a laugh at guys like you who complain about poor accuracy and stoppages in a comment section full of great reports. Of course everyone else is wrong because you'll reply back telling us how you used to instruct Delta Force/CAG/ST6 in smalls arms CQB.
Firearms instructor at lapd. I have the p90 and the fn57, I bought the ruger and I am pleased with it. This shooter failed to keep the sight aligned on the target. Its my go to gun at home. Over 2000 rounds and never a jam, but it could happen with any gun. Great defense gun. Now if you insist on a jam free gun , get a wheel gun.
@@danlestelle9891 question. I have just got my Ruger 57 and I am looking to make it my concealed carry. And seeing how you are in law enforcement. I was wondering if you could give me any advice on how to obtain the license for Arizona. Or how I can have it registered under my name.
"They all jam" and "been told...." LMAO, I own two and also see several dozen comments not mentioning any troubles with the gun I've been fortunate enough to have put several hundred rounds through my first one and the only FTF was from a slightly deformed round that had been used to top up the gun several times and then hand cycled out for reloading into the magazine until I needed one up top again. I had noticed the bullet must have caught the mag lip or something and was slightly skewed. I should have tossed it but like an idiot didnt. Lesson learned, rotate rounds used up top.
