The 6.5 creedmoor wouldn’t get so much hate if we could just admit what it is. It’s a good mid range medium game cartridge.
@JayLewisFarmStyle
@JayLewisFarmStyle Месяц назад
Short answer: I agree with your assessment. Long answer: The 6.5 Creedmoor was never intended to be a hunting cartridge when it was designed by Hornady. It was purposefully designed to fill a role as a target and long range competition cartridge. Due to its popularity as a consistent, inherently accurate, and easy to shoot round it quickly made its way into hunting circles, and within the first couple of years of production "everyone and their mothers" were producing hunting rifles chambered for the new cartridge (Not to mention high G1 bullets for the chambering designed for hunting applications started to appear). While due to that high BC the cartridge holds onto its down range energy well and carries "about" 1000ft/lbs out to "about" 500 yards. That said, I think most ethical hunters would consider that to be an extreme distance for deer sized game with that particular cartridge. The "hate" as you describe it, always makes me chuckle a little. As with other (insert latest rage of the age new cartridges) there is generally a stereotypical response from the major camps. You tend to see push back from the Fudd's, peaked interest from the new gadget crowd, and all out infatuation from "that guy". With that in mind I think the stigma with the 6.5 Creedmoor is exponential compared to anything I've ever seen before. Whether driven by video game popularity, social media influence, the widespread availability of affordable and attractive rifles (and ammunition) chambered for it, or whatever the case may be there is an undeniable cult following with the up and coming generation. When you consider the aforementioned, there is little surprise that it is the caliber of choice for many first time buyers. Being new to the game brings with it an excitement and energy of sorts which depending on the source ads to the stigma. The Fudd-lore paints a picture of the average 6.5 guy with millennial hipster panache sporting a man bun, manicured fingernails, and having a liberal arts degree. The kind of fellow that wears crocheted pants, drives a Subaru as a political statement and only drinks fare trade coffee. I have a dear friend named Sean who knowing little of the differences between calibers bought a 6.5 Creedmoor as his first hunting rifle. I tend to poke fun in his direction because it generates the response I'm looking for. In summary: There's nothing wrong with a 6.5 Creedmoor. I guess...

To my surprise, there are quite a few videos of hunters killing cow elk at 700 yards and under, some of which are dropping on impact. Another guy killed his moose at quite the distance using it and factory Hornady ELD match ammo. He did shoot it multiple times but hit it well each shot. I have 2 in this cartridge, both Tikka stainless, one Lite, one superlite. I've hunted with one once, killed a deer with factory Norma Bondstrike. It did well. Distance was only around 60 yards and it was a medium sized deer at around 110 pounds.

I'll stick w my 308 for that short to med range hunting. 6.5cm is an anemic hunting rig. Terrible energy on game. I'm pushing 150gr partitions outa my .308 at 2900fps. W 24inch barre. The Creedmore can't compete w those numbers.

@@JayLewisFarmStylebest answer for sure. I’m not a huge fan of it. But would not be a fan of the 260 Remington either. The smaller the projectile goes the more important bullet selection is. Hard to beat a 308. But I love how most 6.5 cm are super accurate.

@@Accuracy1st Don't believe anything you see in these gun videos because the liars are a dime a dozen. Get a range finder then go look at ranges and you will see one of the biggest lies are fools making lies about shooting long distances. I own 2 Leupold range finders and live in NW Oregon with massive forest canyons to look how far ranges are. Also, some advice that I learned from Leupold Tec was only scopes with the 30 mm tubes can do elevation to 1000 yards and most all 1 inch tube scopes can only elevate to 500 yards

Topped my Ruger American Gen2 7mm-08 with a Burris Fullfield E1 scope. Only had 2 different factory rounds to try when I sighted it in. Remington Core Lokt 140 gr gave me a 3/4 inch 100 yd group and Federal Fusion 140 gr printed a 5/8 inch group. Great rifles!

@baitball4665 Don't breathe on the eyepiece lens, or apply an anti-fog solution to it. If it's fogging up internally, send it back. Burris has a great warranty process!

The rifle has a 20" barrel. That's not going to get you anywhere near published velocities with most ammo. That said, Mason Leather has tested multiple .243 loads for velocity with a 20" barrel on his channel. Thanks for watching.

@@JayLewisFarmStyle Thanks! looking at it, in your opinion would low rings work with a 30mm tube?
@JayLewisFarmStyle
@JayLewisFarmStyle Месяц назад
@kpellerin26 They do make low rings for the 30mm tube. I think by looking at it as it sets in the mediums that the low rings would work with the 44mm objective bell on this scope without any worry of barrel contact. That is assuming you have it mounted to a Pic rail mount. How that helps.
