I really like .338 Winchester Magnum. Too bad ammo is so rare to find. It's almost as if the ammo makers have decided to boycott this classic cartridge.
Hey look the og hickok you made it big chuke lol. I really like this rifle really into the idea of the this round. I have a 300 Win Mag with a super cell gel stock. So I wonder how the differences are lol. Love the big foot vids. Found a cool big foot hoodie at a tractor supply store lol. You helped it catch on lol
Great gun Chuke. The 338wm will handle things nicely. I have a Ruger Hawkeye Alaskan in 375 Ruger left hand that shoots 270gr. Barnes triple shocks at about an inch and a half. I love Rugers they build their guns like tanks.
That laminated stock is beautiful,I like my ruger old school boat paddle stainless rifle 243 win. Rugers are tough. Paid $300 used over 20 years ago. Killed 1-2 bucks every rifle season, and over 50 hogs. I don’t live in Alaska,so I’m not gonna go that big of caliber. Definitely would though if I had opportunity to go on a big game hunt. May need to borrow yours lol
I picked up one of these a few months ago in 30-06. I love the rifle. Not many guns come out of the box with all the features this gun has especially those solid iron sights. Mine hits slightly high at 50 yards with 165 grain core lok remingtons. I haven’t scoped it yet and may not. I was comfortably hitting an 8” gong at 200 yards without a scope. I left the muzzle break on but im thinking of putting the muzzle weight it comes with on it. I think 30-06 is also a good do it all caliber too. It’s about as magnum as you can get without truly being an actual magnum. Thanks for the video. I look forward to you talking more about it.
Great caliber and rifle. I have been using .338's for years here in Montana. I'm sure that you will love the cartridge and rifle combination even for outings other than hunting. That little carbine would make a great camp rifle.
338 guide gun from ruger is the Alaskan gun if any. Perfect for all hard weather conditions and big game . Dad had 338 win savage for years gave to my younger brothers when move on 45-70 guid gun and 308. 🎉. I did reloading series on 338 win mag with 225gr speer sp last year.
The recoil speaks for itself!!!! A perfectly tuned muzzle brake. It almost looks as if it has the same or less recoil that my savage scout 308 does with factory muzzle brake. NOW IM INTERESTED! 😊
Dam i just traded my 338 lapua yesterday your makin me miss it but i just had to have these 2 numbered limited special edition colt 1911 45s in perfect condition and covered in a lot of 24k gold so you know why I just had to have them

Hard recoil AND THEN there's Wrong headspace .. So check headspace , then It's probably stock , recoil pad and little can be done. Which is it. ? . Also change muzzle break . Ect
Congrats on the new rifle! That older rifle may be better served by a different brake. Check the threads and see what can be retrofitted. The new rifle is certainly more practical. Thanks for sharing!
frikin double bad ass bud ... thanks for the vids. Im in west Montana and have been considering 338 win mag. Keep em coMiNig bud.. CheWekK for tHe wInN..!
I elked hunted with my grandpas Winchester. 338 growing up. It had military armory markings on it and was rebarreled in a bull. My grandpa, WWII combat vet, figured it was a military issue and rebarreled. It is short and light and I do NOT enjoy shooting it. This is from a guy that loves big bore. Its like being full on punched vs shoved.
I had a friend years ago that was in the air force Stationed in montana.. He had an M77 Ruger in 338 win mag. And used to hunt mountain goats at 5 to 6 hundred yards.
Very good point that people overlook... rifle vs shotgun at close range, choosing the rifle, just in case you have some long distance shooting to do. Love it.
I would feel confident in bear country with the 338, at a hundred yards I wonder what type of group you would get, as long as you get a minute of bear, that's all that matters.
Rugers do not get the love they deserve now days, in the lower 48 anyways. Everyone now days wants all carbon fiber everything despite a mile or less from the pickup. I just picked up a beautiful blued and walnut 338 rcm with 20” barrel and open sights.
Some of us don’t have as much hair on our chest🤔😳😂 you need to stop with the Harmon shots😂 I am a 60+ gun collector hunter and reloader! In case you were not aware that only about 10 percent of hunters can shot this high of caliber because of recoil! I have owned hundreds of rifles including about every Weatherby except the 460 and a break makes it so you can hunt with a bigger caliber for bigger game! Having my neck rapped in metal plates front and rear from a drunk driver almost taking my head completely off and 7 1/2 hours on the table and 200 screws into my spine!
@edwardabrams4972 I am also a gun collector and reloader. I load for calibers from 17 hornet to 50.90 sharps. I shoot gophers here in montana with every rifle I own. I too have been busted up. Mabey a person in yr shape needs help. I'm just saying recoil is a mind game. You just have to figure it out. Come out to montana and I'll take you varmint hunting.
Chuke: My response is based on your post, 338 "Best all around rifle for Alaka" I agree that the 338 is an excellent choice! My question is this: Are you going to have one rifle? What is your budget, availability of ammo, what are you hunting or do you plan to use it for protection. The 338 has great power, will take a Grizzly , Black Bear etc. Your choice of Ruger is excellent chambered in the 338! My response is this based on your post and my previous statements. I would go with the 30-06 because it can shoot a wide range of bullets and the price of ammo. Yes, the 338 has much more power than the 30-06 but the Grizzly Bear will not know the difference if it is hit by a well placed shot between the two. Again, thanks for another informative video! Just want to give "my two cents worth" LOL!
