Ruger LCP II .22lr (Good Ammo Vs. Bad Ammo) 

What kind of cci are you using? Standard velocity or stingers?

I’m about to go out to the range soon and just shoot out the box. Not sure how many good ones I’ll get out of it but I would imagine not many 😆

You might be right about that. I’m editing a new gun video right now and got very different results with the Winchester. If not up tonight, it will be up by tomorrow.

Have you tried Aguila Super Extra ?

It’s weird how guns and ammo work sometimes. You’d think that ammo in guns would go bang because that’s what it’s suppose to do. Then you buy a box of duds and it’s like dude, just go bang and make a happy day at the range lol.

Yea after a few more tests with other guns, it’s definitely the ammo.

I do have to blame Winchester and Armscor for bad ammo but for any other ammo, it should run flawlessly. I ended up trading this gun for an LCP Max. I love it. I probably won’t have to change anything on it. It’s my latest video if you’re interested.

I've heard of others having a lot of issues with this one and then those like me that have just minor issues with certain types of ammo. I did get a few failed extractions before changing the springs. Now the only problems I have is just bad ammo. So far only the Armscor and Winchester. Everything else, failure to feed, failure to extract, that stopped after the springs.

Ours likes cci, but aguila not so much...crazily, the gun sings on thunderbolts, of all things...autos in .22 are just weird...

I’ll be giving them a try in my rifles soon and also a new 22 gun that I just picked up recently. Gotta get to the range at the break of dawn to be alone lol

We think it is the flat, truncated nose of the super x that is causing the problem...in revolvers and lever actions the ammo runs just fine...

Thank you and others for taking one for the team. I won't dare buy that ammo and a few others. I don't have enough range time to waste on ammo very likely to yield bad results.

Not so much modifying but just replacing certain parts with more reliable parts. Like a stronger mag release spring to prevent mag drops while firing or lighter recoil spring to prevent stovepiping. I've seen videos on this LCP II .22 that didn't need a single thing done to it and others needed replacement parts. I guess not every part is made the same and will be fine in some guns and cause issues in others.

Im with you. Out of the box it shouldn’t need a spring kit with a different rate to function properly. If the aftermarket can figure it out, Ruger should have been able to figure it out. But being they didnt, and the pistol fit all the needs i had for it except the reliability, i took a chance on that same spring kit and that resolved all my firearm reliability problems with it. Still get dud rounds that are prone to cheap bulk 22. But have not had a failure one of any sort with the ammo i carry in it, federal punch. To be honest it has done well with everything ive run through it except stingers, think their just a bit too long for my chamber. Golden bullets ive had a couple duds , aguila has been dang reliable , i ran a brick of Winchester white box bulk through it with no failures tho some were audibly weaker than others. Have done alot of reading on videos like this in the comments, results definitely vary. I hope this lack of consistency isn’t foreshadowing of whats to come of ruger on down the road because i have never had one of their products be anything but flawless until i got my lcp2,strangly tho im not really mad. Just hope they get it together.

So I replied with another comment then deleted it because I realized that I was talking about a different gun. I thought it was the LCP II .380 video lol. So anyway, I sold the LCP II .22 to a buddy of mine because one, he really wanted one and couldn’t find it and two, I really wanted a .22 revolver more than the LCP II .22 so I got a Smith & Wesson model 43C.

Thanks a lot. I would love to get out to the range more. The problem is that there is only one nearby and there are always people there. I can’t film a range video unless I’m alone. Also, some of the people that go there are kinda shady. Most of my range videos are early morning just after sunrise but I’m not a morning person either lol. I wish I lived in the country with my own range or at least knew someone who does lol.

Winchester used to make good 22lr ammo?

Winchester ammo only works in my lever action Henry .22, it's just so dang awful in any semi auto for some reason.

I read that on the box and it just came to me after all those bad rounds 😂
