My 16" does consistent 1-1.5" groups at 100 yards with Federal Gold Medal Match 168gr. My rifle just likes it. Love my SFAR! 650ish rounds on it. 👍

I started hunting out of a saddle this year-hiking in and packing out heavy if I’m lucky. I slip hunt when i’m not hanging from a rope. I choose the 16” because it checked all the boxes needed for the application. I purchased the rifle despite the negative reviews-bad news seems to get more attention regardless of the source. I couldn’t be happier with my choice. I’ve shot numerous hunting loads. My go to is Barnes 130’s getting just shy of 3000 fps. They group sub moa ad perform great on deer at that velocity. 150 accubonds and 165 scirocco shoot fantastic as well. Thanks for the video and honest information. I had similar results with the loads you tested.

I shot my first 25 rounds through my SFAR the other day, it did pretty well. I was shooting 150 grain bullets that I loaded myself. From what I was seeing out of other guys shooting, it does seem to do better with heavier bullets. I bought a bunch of spear boat, soft points 165 grain that I’m going to load and try in it.

Dude! I’ll take those groups any day of the week for this rifle. I did a first round of accuracy testing on my SFAR and got pretty horrendous groups. Best were with 175gr Federal and folks flamed the rifle for not shooting 1” groups. I have roughly 400 rounds through mine. My group testing was also 5 round groups without cooldown time…hot 5 shot groups. I did have issues with cycling with mine that I documented in a couple of videos. Bad ejector and gas issues. It’s been flawless since I replaced those parts. I love it! I knew going into it that it had a good chance of having issues. Got the buy a POF comment numerous times. Yea I could do that, but I just wanted a lightweight .308 AR to hunt with. Anyways, great video once again. Hoping to get mine back out for another round of ammo testing soon.

Yeah Im over the moon with it now. At least I know there is a load that will shoot a little tighter if needed. Otherwise its ran 100% so like I said in the video I like this rifle a lot. So Im open to getting flamed by those that either dont understand what the platform is for or have had bad luck with theirs lol. Thanks for watching.

I've been running 147 gr in my SFAR and to be honest my best groups at 100syard are 3 to 4 inch groups. I might give some heavier ammo a try to see if my groups improve or maybe I just suck and need to shoot more and get better. :) Im using a Primary Arms 3-18x50.

Good video and good data. No need to apologize for giving an honest review and your honest opinion. I have been considering the 16" SFAR. I would love for you to try the Palmetto State Armory AAC ammo, 150 grain soft points and Sabre Blade Black Tip. I use many different AR 15 cartridges for shooting Texas hogs, 6.8 Spc, 7.62x39, 300 Ham'r, 350 Legend and 450 Bushmaster. But now it is cheaper to shoot .308, especially if the SFAR was to like the inexpensive AAC ammo. And having .308 performance out of an AR 15 size and weight rifle is a huge bonus. I only wish they would come out with an 18" barrel for that little bit better performance.

Many thanks. Good results. Mine is a bit tighter grouping so far. It is closer to MOA when I take my time & shoot groups, especially with my match handloads. I switched to setting #2 around 220 rounds and haven't had any real issues. It failed to hold open on last round of M80 ball one time. Have you run yours on setting # 2? My 16” gave me nothing but trouble as far as feeding. Three trips back to Ruger before I gave up on them and modified the gas system myself. My gun likes 168gr best, which yields 1-1 1/2” groups @ 100. With 150gr give 1 1:2”

For health reasons, I can't use my 300 Win Mag for elk hunting this next season because the recoil rattles my noodle too much after a small stroke. So I bought an SFAR in 308. I've put 99 rounds through it and had 6 or 7 feeding malfunctions. Since this rifle is intended for hunting where shots are likely to be close and in the timber, I'm confident it will do just fine for hunting. You aren't going to get more than 2 shots at an animal in the timber I hunt. I use my own reloads and mostly bullets I swage myself weighing in from 168 grains to 178 grains they average around 1 1/2 inches at 100 yards. I just switched to setting 2. I notice that case rims sometimes get damaged by both the extractor and the ejector with my rifle and this can result in a stuck case because the extractor can slip off. I don't like throwing brass away so I hope this fixes the problem. Now, if I could only talk myself into buying a suppressor! Maybe I'll go with electronic ear plugs instead. The kind that cut off the noise at the sound of the shot.
@TheHide
@TheHide 2 месяца назад
See ive heard of others having those malfunctions but for some reason I guess I've just been lucky. I to have just been feeding mine mostly 150gr handloads but also some M80. I have not suppressed this one as I just think for me it would take away from the weight savings of this platform as my 30cal can is stupid heavy. But yes you need a can ha ha. Thanks for watching.

I've been doing some research. The most common problem seems to come from bad ammo causing gas issues causing malfunctions. The fix is a 12 position gas block or figure out the ammo it likes. After what I gather, if you want it to cycle everything, without fail, gotta change the gas block to a more adjustable one. Other than that it looks really good.

"Repeatablity" Putting a bullet in/near the same place over and over again. Accuracy: putting a bullet on/as near as possible to a specific point. You want both.
@TheHide
@TheHide 2 месяца назад
Accuracy instead of repeatability. But yes in a perfect world you want each as close as to their true value as possible. Thanks for watching.
@dhe777
@dhe777 2 месяца назад
@@TheHide Accuracy applies to each individual shots distance to a specific aiming point. Repeatability, putting multiple shots near/at the same point. Both: multiple shots at/near a specific point. If I aim at a bullseye and put 5 shots in a sub-moa but 10 inches away from the bullseye, I have good repeatability but poor accuracy. If I aim at the bullseye and put 5 shots within 1 inch of the bullseye, I have both good repeatability and accuracy. (100 yards)
@TheHide
@TheHide 2 месяца назад
@dhe777 Accuracy is how close a data set is to their true value. Precision is how close those data points are to each other. I have a video explaining both and the concepts as they apply to shot placement here on the channel if you'd like to check them out. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nAxOl9CWJok.htmlsi=DaYDJlZmi4J8mwP4
@dhe777
@dhe777 2 месяца назад
Precision and repeatability are closely related. Precision focuses on consistency, while repeatability emphasizes the ability to reproduce results. A measurement can be precise but not repeatable if it consistently yields the same value (even if that value is incorrect). Conversely, a measurement can be repeatable but not precise if it consistently yields different values. For shooting they are pretty much synonyms Consistency in producing the same result. One can be precise and repeatable and still be very inaccurate.
@dhe777
@dhe777 2 месяца назад
@@TheHide Precision: Precision refers to the consistency and repeatability of measurements. If you consistently obtain similar results (values close to each other) when measuring the same quantity, you have achieved precision. For example, if you measure the length of a pencil multiple times and always get 15.2 centimeters, your measurements are precise. Accuracy: Accuracy, on the other hand, relates to how close your measurement is to the true or accepted value. An accurate measurement reflects the actual quantity being measured. If the true length of the pencil is 17 centimeters, but your measurements consistently yield 15.2 centimeters, they are precise (consistent) but not accurate (correct). For shooting the close to one's point of aim, the more "correct" or accurate the shot is.

You clearly stat that this is not an accurate rifle. This is mainly a defense rifle where a 2" MOA at 100 yds is satisfactory. However, I see some colleagues comments expressing their dissatisfaction because of it. For those who expect accuracy, the Ruger precision offers it a higher price. Lets not forget that main selling point for this rifle is weight and price compared to other AR10s in the market at much higher prices. My train of thought is if I want accuracy, I go for a bolt action rifle. You just have to make of your mind on what you want. I saw you shooting mainly 308 ammo and I wonder which gas setting were you using. Perhaps I missed it but it's important to mention it since Ruger recommends setting 3 for 7.62x52, setting 3 for 308 and 1 for suppressors. I have the 16" version and I am satisfied with my own reloads with 1" to 1 1/4" at 100 yds using Hornady150 and 165 grains inter-Lock. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Bottom line is I don't need this rifle to shoot subMOA and thats not why I bought it. That's not its intended purpose. If I need that Im grabbing a bolt gun. Thanks for watching!

Even if it prefers heavier ammo I'd get rid of it. All guns are diifferent, but the gun should shoot 150, 165 & 180gr bullets into 2'' 1/2'' or less at 100yards with factory ammo
