In this video I talk about what parts I changed on my Ruger SR1911 to complete a full stainless conversion.
I'm sorry but I can't post actual links to Brownells for the parts because of a RU-vid policy but all that you have to do is copy and paste the part number into the search box on their site and you'll find them immediately!

Nicely done, love the new look your Ruger wares. I’m thinking of doing the same changes to my Ruger All Steel CMD and I just picked up last night the Ruger Light Weight CMD, not sure if I’ll do anything else to this one or not. Thumbs-Up.....

Thanks! Yeah, this is a great platform to experiment with because of the relatively low cost to entry, yet it still remains a great firearm in terms of reliability, function, and looks.

That's a true test right there, when you have have to sell something, and you buy it again...it's usually a winner.

I also replace and fitted all new stainless on my sr1911 commander too. Now all I wanted to do is front checkering. Nice set up btw.

Beautiful WORK! The reason you got the gap on the WC Grip Safety you used the universal GS and did not try to install a new one with the correct circumference which I believe Ruger uses the .250 which is the standard but that leaves issues too. When you try to install the same size you will normally have unsightly gaps because the machine or person who installed the original might have taken too much material off. There is a Solution for this issue Smith and Alexander makes a .220 Grip Safety that is Designed for Springfield 1911s but you can get the Jig for it and you can also contact Brownells on this and double check you can use the .220 and HAND FIT a GF that perfectly fitted onto the pistol. I build a MEU Style 1911 using a Springfield Mil-Spec as part of my Rehab from a Military Service Spinal Cord Injury and I did all the work by hand and it took my 2 years to finish from Sept 11, 2009 when I purchased the pistol till Sept 11, 2011 when I finish and took it to the range for the first time and put the first 7 rounds at 15 yards into the center of the 3 inch circle of the target I was using. The Pistol now has 1350 rounds without a single issue. Did you use the Front Strap Checkering Jig? Is that 30 LPI Checkering? If you have any side to side play on your GS you can get the Power Custom GS Shims they will help take that way!

Thanks! Yeah, initially I read a review on the Wilson Combat page that said that the GS I bought was the right part for the SR1911. Clearly it wasn't, lol. I spoke to Alexander and they couldn't tell me whether theirs would fit or not, they never tried an SR1911. I figured my best bet was Metaloy since I know the original fits. It's a compound radius from what I can tell with the GS off. I'd have to jig and cut the frame like you mentioned which I didn't want to get into.

Oh, good call on the shims, I need to check those out. It's got a little play in it. Yeah, I used the Brownells jig to start the vertical and horizontal cuts. It worked well for the verticals but I had to pay very close attention for the horizontals because there is a small surfaced for reference on those.

20 lpi for the checkering btw...

@@ConcealedSteel Thank YOU! I am very interested in Checkering my 2 Springfields ever since I got my Sig Gen 1 TacOps 1911 with 20 LPI it's hard to go back to Pachmayr Grips. I think that would be the Cherry on top of my MEU pistol to checker the Front Strap and put some VZ Operator grips.

You're quite welcome! That's the same reason that I had to checker this one, I got spoiled by my TRP Operator with the 20 lpi checkering, and my CDP as well...
