Ruger's SR1911 Commander in .45 ACP: Is it a good option for someone wanting to try a 1911? Original Content Creator: JennyJ1911 Technical Supervisor: JimJ
I have had my SR Commander for a few years now and it has never failed me at the range. I love the looks, the feel and the trigger on it. Thanks for the video.
Very good explanation of this Commander size 1911. I especially enjoy watching you beam each time you praise 1911’s. I feel much the same way about them. Oh. And by the way, I couldn’t help noticing today when you were telling we viewers that one of us would win that super cool reloading press and you pointed at and looked directly at ME! I can hardly wait.
I'm quite fond of mine Miss Jenny. I did have to send the initial one back twice and it was destroyed the second trip but my replacement has been everything I would expect from a Ruger as was their Customer Service. Thank you for a fine video.
I own the SR1911 Full size, two tone, and have been impressed by it's "fit & function,' along with Ruger's impressive machining and good looks !!! If You are looking for a real Quality tool, Ruger cannot be beat by any other off the shelf 1911 ! Been eyeing the Commander length too ! Nice video, and keep up the good work !!!
What kind of holster do you use for your 1911. I want to EDC mine but I am unable to find a holster that conceals well with my dad body after retiring from the military.
Nicely done review. First time seeing your channel and I am now a new subscriber. My department allows us to carry either their issued Glocks or what we want at our own expense. It has to pass safety and reliability checks and range qualification to be approved for our duty weapon. The Ruger SR1911 Commander passed with no problem and I have been carrying it for over 4 years now as my duty weapon. Only changes I made to it for personal reasons was installing a Wilson mag well, G-10 Starburst grips, front night site and installed an Trijicon AC32058 RMR Pistol Mount plate with the HOLOSUN HE507C-GR X2 Green Circle Dot/Solar sight and 4 Wilson 8 round magazines. Since then, 2 other officers have gone to the same setup after trying mine out. Nice knowing that I live only an hour drive away from Prescott, AZ if I ever did have a problem. Thanks again for the review and yes, I have that same smile on my face that you did when you fired it lol.
This was the first 1911 I ever shot. It started me on the 1911 addiction. I didn't get through the first mag before I said to my buddy, "I gotta get one of these!" That was a year ago. Now I have 4 1911's in different sizes and calibers. And looking at getting more.
I’ve had mine for 7 years and it has never had any issues whatsoever. I put hogue rubber grips and night sights. I carry it in the winter months it is easier to conceal the way I carry. Very accurate and fun to shoot. Enjoy it is a very good pistol.
I have 2 SR1911'S, Combat Commander and the full size, govt. I own 9 1911s and Ruger is the only one I really don't have to do for my personalization. Both absolutely excellent triggers.
I own one of these that I have had for several years. So long, in fact, that "out the door", I paid just under $600.00 new. Mine has the lowered and flared ejection port. Ruger no longer flares the ejection port. The trigger deserves to be mentioned...just over 3lbs with no creep. This is one of the very few 1911's I own that I have just left the trigger alone. All the sharp corners have been rounded slightly. In short, an underrated Commander that can still be had for reasonable money and backed by Ruger's guarantee. I've been very happy with mine, hope you'll enjoy yours too.
I have the full size Ruger SR 1911 and really enjoy shooting it. I've been looking at the Rock Island version of the commander, as it's a little more budget friendly and has a fiber optic front sight. Thanks for the review of the Ruger.
I'm with you there. I like 1911s also. Mine is a 10mm delta. The trigger is absolutely beautiful. And Ruger, also a huge fan. My 6 shooters are all Rugers. Great vid. Thanks.
I have that same gun, sometimes I wish I had gotten the lightweight version, just to lighten the load a bit for concealed carry, which is what I got it for.
This will be my new edc once I get a holster for it! I just shot my first 50 rounds and was shooting quarter size groups up to 30 ft. I enjoy the trigger as well as the Novak sights which are extremely easy for my eyes to pick up.
@@JennyJ1911 My favorite thing about the Ruger SR1911 besides the looks, the commander size, the sights, and that I shot it well the first time I shot it, is the trigger. The trigger is much better than a series 80 Colt government model. And it’s a Ruger. My favorite firearms company.
Nice review Jenny and that's a nice gun I always appreciate how ruger makes good guns affordable and available to us. I'm almost afraid to look and see if they make a 10mm model. I swore off of buying new guns lol.
Have this model for quite some time now and overall I am very pleased with it. It has been reliable and shoots well! The trigger on mine is very light and you must be mindful or you could easily have a unintentional round go off before you know it? My only real complaint is the thumb safety on mine is sloppy and mushy. There is also quite a bit of overtravel when the safety is thumbed off. I did have the safety replaced recently and it is a lot better but not as precise and definite as I would like. Good gun! Glad I bought it! Glad I have it! Glad you gave us content on it!!!!
Same here, love the guns, hate the mushy thumb safety and the over travel. Every Ruger 1911 I own does it. Maybe it has something to do with the spring tube for the safety being part of the frame eliminating that common point of failure on other 1911's? Or not. Still great guns for the money.
I purchased the full size SR1911 w/ a 5" barrel and liked it so much I bought the 4.25" version for edc. The 5" is just a bit more accurate but the 4.25" is a little easier to draw. I have about 1000 rounds through both and I am still waiting for my first malfunction. The only thing I don't like is I got the cardboard boxes instead of the plastic cases. Poor me.
I have the lightweight Commander with the aluminum alloy frame. It's a great firearm. I also have the same thing in 9mm. I've had a host of reliability issues with the 9mm version and currently Ruger has possession of it for the second time. I really like the gun and I'm hoping that they'll be able to get it working properly for me. UPDATE > It now appears as if the issues were ammunition related. This firearm is very picky about which hollow points it will feed and fire reliably. The Hornady 135 grain +P hollow point with the Flex Lock bullet works great.
One of my favorite guns. But for everyday carry I have a Nightwatchman commander with the aluminum frame which saves about 7 oz. off the steel frame. If Oregon goes unconstitutional Nov 4th, I'm ready with 9+1 and 2x8 for spares Federal HST 230g, EDC.
I've had my Ruger Lightweight Commander for about 10 years now, and she has approximately 2372 rounds downrange. She carries well in a Bianchi shoulder holster, and loves Chip McCormick Power Mags, as well as the two 7 round mags she came with. I do have a stack of G.I. mags that she feeds well, but doesn't lock the slide back: although she feeds, and ejects with all of them. She feeds hollow points as well but who can afford them? The .45 AUTO has worn down to something like .45 AUIO, and she's pretty Lucy Goosy, but she runs better than ever.
Hi Jenny J 1911! Even though it’s not a Wilson Combat , it’s a rugged pistol and does shoot quite accurate! Of the two I’ve seen here , they both shot quite well !
When you factor in price, what you get with this pistol is a no brainer. Wilson’s are above and beyond, but cost much dinero. This is very affordable and is on the level of “great” in my opinion.
😁👍 JENNY, you know how I love the 1911 commander size 45acp. How did you like the Ruger? I actually own that one and I CC that one a lot. Mine has G10 olive green grips. With a Wilson combat trigger. Love it 👍👍😁
Mine has had problems with ejecting empty cases. Have had it for about a decade and should send it back to Ruger but I have others to shoot so it sets in the safe.
Hi Jenny. I purchased this and a hundred rounds of Browning ammo. Few dollars short of a thousand dollars. This was the 16th of December. Budsgunshop jerked me around till Tuesday. Dealt with James the assistant manager. He ended up canceling my order Tuesday. I wish I had read the reviews about them first.. I'll never buy anything from those Crooks.. I'm ordering this same pistol from basspro in the morning. They'll match bud's prices.. and no shipping or transfer fee's. Bud's really ruined my Christmas.. But my question is... Did Ruger include the spent round with the weapon? Thanks, Michael
Hi Jenny, just came across your channel accidentally while you were doing The Bul 1911.Like the way you do your gun reviews and of course it Always helps to have a pretty face to watch. How does the Ruger Sr45 Commander compare to The Bul 1911.I know that they are both nice looking and seem to be well made handguns for about the same price.I've held both of them at different times and they both fell good in my hand, what 1911 doesn't.I haven't shoot either one though.Almost purchased The Ruger sr45 right after it came out a few years ago but got a Glock Gen4 19 instead, mainly because of the extra rounds capacity.Still would like to own a good 1911.In Your opinion which one do You think is a better 1911.I'm a Lefthanded shooter also, doesn't the Ruger have an ambidextrous safety?I subscriber after seeing Your review of the Bul 1911 earlier.👍
Awww, @Mark Allen, thank you so much!! You have made my whole day. To answer your question, my Bul Commander is chambered in 9mm, while the Ruger was a 45ACP, so that makes a little difference because my Bul is lighter in that regard. The Bul has a smoother action than the Ruger. They both have a solid, sturdy feel, but I like the trigger on the Bul better because it's a little crisper. The Ruger did NOT have an ambi safety but neither does our Bul. Thank you so much for subscribing, Mark! I'm glad you're here!
@@JennyJ1911 Thank You for your response. What You just told me kinda verifies what I have been seeing on other reviews on The Bul 1911.Unless something New comes along in the near future that is the same price and quality as The Bul,that may be my first 1911.Keep up the Great reviews and keep on Smiling.👍
Like a fool I sold my 2 1911s , never dreamed the $$ would get so high,, this could be my replacement model. And just so you know, I am currently Single !!
I absolutely love my sr 1911, it is a tank, unstoppable, only thing that annoys me is the “wood” grips. I’m a cabinet maker and love woodworking, I removed the grips to find mine are plastic, I will be making my own walnut grips that are actual wood. I am a ruger man since 1979 and will buy ruger before anything, these grips are a little annoying.
Commanders have that short stroke, ejection can be a problem no brass should touch you , should eject to 2:30 seen one bounce off your arm , these production 1911s The factory just slaps them together , colt for a fact does not tune their extractors , my first .45 was a colt commander, the extractor would let go of the case and stovepipe the brass all the time , I didn’t know much back then , I took it to bill at the cylinder and slide , Fremont NE , he had no idea he said I been having a lot of problems like that,, I eventually sold it , 30 years later I found out he was taking all the guns people gave him to fix to bob marvel, and having him fix them , oh well , the problem I had takes 10 minutes to fix ,, you put tension on the extra,
@@JennyJ1911 Thanks I just bought the SR1911 Target Model, 5" barrel and was curious about what you used because it seemed everything went smoothly. By the way good shootin.
Jenny. 1st, Your a Beautiful lady and personally, i think more women need to learn to protect themselves ESPECIALLY, with firearms. 2nd, You need to control in anticipation the pulling of the trigger because you flinch and you shut your left eye. The flinching most people do but the shutting of the eye, YOU need to get away from.
